Does anyone know of a source in the US for the samsung sv0802N (80GB) or the sv1203n (120 GB). I have done a google search and did not find any. These are the 5400rpm versions of the US 7200 rpm models. Only the 7200 rpm models are officially distributed in the US. The only reason I am trying to get the 5400 rpm models is that I have read that in general 5400 rpm models are quieter and cooler than 7200 rpm models.
The "N" models are, according to samsung, supposed to be quieter than the "H" models.
Thanks

I have a Samsung SV1204H that's been in my Tivo for a while, and its been great. (In fact, I upgraded three tivos with this drive--both my friends report theirs has been fine.)
The drive has a 3-year warranty, and is AMAZINGLY quiet. Seriously, its the quiestest drive I've ever worked with, if the "N" series is quieter--that's amazing!
So the SV1203N is the newer version of the basic 120GB 5400rpm drive. Does it still have a 3-year warranty?
I just got another Tivo I'm gonna upgrade and then find a new home for, I'd love to find a source for these drives, too!

According to Samsung, the N drives are ata133, and the H drives are ata100. I believe that does not make a difference in a Tivo.
The sv1204H is a two platter drive. The sv0802N is a one platter, 80GB drive. I was trying to find it because I thought that a one platter drive would be quieter than a two platter drive. I don't need the extra 40GB. 80gb is enough for me. So far, I can only find the sv0802N from some places in England, but they have not responded to my emails about sending them to the US. They probably do not want to deal with it.

PS. I got the wrong info from Samsung about the noise difference between the H and N drives.

A few sources to purchase the hard to find Samsung 5400 rpm drives:
Computer Asset (SV1203N) @ $124:
http://www.computerasset.com/search.asp?findtxt=sv1203n
CompuVest (SV1204H) @ $96
http://www.compuvest.com
Finally, if you're willing to consider used drives, you can typically pick them up on ebay for around $60 - there's one on auction right now here:

No luck on the SV0802N anywhere - seems this was a really rare drive.
Good luck with it - I'm currently running my DTivo with one SV1203N and one SV1204H, both work great.

Thanks. I splurged and got the sv1203N. The store is local to me, so I have the drive. I downloaded the samsung drive utility, and the drive was preset to Fast. I changed it to quiet. The fan on the power supply on the computer I am using now completely drowns-out the hard drive. I'll have to wait to connect it to my Tivo to "hear" how quiet it really is.
Thanks for all of the posts on this site giving info about these drives.

Found an interesting thread in a German forum similar to this forum comparing these drives:

I got Google to sort of translate it.
