Change Channel without record

It would be great if you could instruct the Tivo to change the channel to a particular show without recording it.

For example, I sometimes get so involved in work on my computer that when a show comes on that I want to watch (but not record), I forget to change the channel.

It would be nice if, when I highlight a show on the guide and press "ok", it gave me an option to just change the channel to that show when it comes on as opposed to recording it.

It is less trouble for you to simply watch the recorded version of the show you want to watch than to clutter up the screen for all of us with an option that few of us would choose. Watching TiVo rather than live TV is sooooo much better.

I think that Tivo should automatically change channels without recording.

After Tivo records a scheduled program: instead of just staying on that channel until the next scheduled recording, it should change to something in the "suggestions" list, or something I've given a thumbs up.

That way, when I walk in the room, there's always a good show buffered. And I can clean house or surf the net without having to keep changing the channel.

Your house must be dirty if you have to keep changing channels all the time.

Workaround for OP:

Do a manual recording for 1 minute on the channel you want it to change to and the time.

Of course, if you are using a DirecTiVo with 2 tuners, you have to do that twice to make sure it is on the screen (although it would be in the buffer).

Just delete the 1 minute recording at your leisure.

I know it's a guy thing but I too would like the option to change channels without record. That's the main way I use TIVO most evening, since I have two series 2's and one series 1 I let the tivo's I'm not at do the recording. And with that, I would like for TIVO to get smarter, if I select a program to record on TIVO 1 and it conflicts with another recording, TIVO could look on the second/third TIVO and ask if I want to record it on that TIVO. That way I could do all my scheduling on a single box, moving things around if/as needed.

bill, you LIKE to watch commercials?

Just start watching what you want to watch when you want to watch it (just start a few minutes late) and you get to fly by commercials.

I'm sorry, but that "feature" doesn't sound like something really necessary for me to enjoy the awesome service I already get with TiVo. If you're getting too involved with your computer... just record the show and watch it later anyway. The whole point of TiVo is that TV no longer rules your life... you rule the TV. You watch what you want to WHEN you want to. Just record the program... and delete it right after you get done watching it.

Also, TiVo is ALWAYS recording whatever you are watching anyway... even if the red light isn't on... that's how you can rewind "live" TV. So telling the TiVo to record is not going to really change anything that already happens. Again, just delete it when your done with the episode. It makes sense to me.

I agree. I love to channel surf. There's no way that Tivo will ever be able to anticipate my personal eclectic tastes, let alone those of the other 5 people in my family, nor their significant others , etc.

So there are times when as a group, tivo has nothing of interest on. I'd like to be able to change the channels to see what is on, but not have the recording buffer keep starting over and over and over again.

Even looking at guide info doesn't really help - I see too many cases where either the show info is insufficient, or wrong, to be able to tell whether something will be of interest.
