Six Feet Under

We just started renting the Season I DVD's of Six Feet Under and are really enjoying it. With the show entering it's fourth season in June I was wondering why only one season has been released so far and when will they release the second one. It seems like they are releasing them awfully slow.

Probably because there was only one good season.

well, then, that season was a REALLY long one! like, 39 episodes!

I have to agree with kitsap. The first season of SFU was groundbreaking, just like the first season of The Sopranos, the rest have been average, and sometimes less. The Wire is the only HBO show to blow me away two seasons in a row.

I watched Season 1 and 2 back-to-back and thought they were both equally strong.

Season 3 let me down a lot.

I'm definitely in the first season camp. The remainder never met the challenge. The third just plain sucked.

Season 1 was spectacular.

Season 2 was good.

Season 3 was average at best, except for the last 3 episodes, which were fantastic.

I'll give you that. The only saving grace for the season.

While season 3 was not as good as the 2nd (and the 1st), I'm really chompin'at the bit for Season 4 to begin... I believe this June it starts back up? Hopefully....

Season 1 came out on DVD when Season 3 started in Feb 2003, IIRC. HBO seems to release DVDs of previous seasons when the new season is starting. I guess they maximize their advertising/marketing budget that way. So I wouldn't expect Season 2 on DVD until this summer, when Season 4 is supposed to start, probably after The Sopranos ends.

Season 3 just finished reairing on HBO2. I was hoping they'd replay all 3 seasons before Season 4, but I guess not.

SFU started downhill after Brenda slept with the two random teenagers she found outside her house. It was a surreal scene, and showed how wrecked this one character was, but there has been nothing since then that was of the same order of strange-ness or had the same level of depth-of-insight into a character.
