Wireless G Access Point?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I currently have 2 TiVo's connected to my wireless 802.11b network. I am looking to upgrade my network to a wireless 802.11g+a+b network. Will my TiVo's still be able to connect to the network using the existing adapters? Presuming my new router and/or access point supports them.

Does anyone currently run in a similar configuration?

'g' is backwards compatible with 'b', though some early routers will limit your speeds to 'b' if you have both types of devices active. I'm using the Linksys WRTG54 g/b and it works fine with my Tivo using a 'b' USB adapter.

That is what I figured. I guess I do need to make sure I am getting a newer access point that will not throtle back to a slower speed.

Does anyone else have any positive feedback on Wireless G access points or routers?

I'll just mention that g client's speeds running on a g/b network will always be slower than on a pure g network. That's just the way the g specification was designed.

The speed order should be like this (from fastest to slowest):
1. G client on pure g network
2. G client on g/b network with no b clients associated
3. G client on g/b network with 1 or more b clients associated, but no b clients sending/receiving.
4. G client on g/b network with b clients sending/receiving
5. B clients.

So the TiVo will slow down your G network, but not considerably.

I've used the Linksys WRT54G without any major problems, but you may want to look at DLink's new 108 SuperG routers.

Thanks morac. That seems to be what I am learning. At this point I am really not as concerned about the speed that much. I want to set myself up better for the future. I am looking into the D-Link model at the moment. Seems to be good piece of hardware. Thanks again for the input.
