pre-order

Does any know when we will be able to pre-order the hd tivo?
Marie

Posted by: JimSpence

Personally, I'm going to do a wait and see how many bugs the unit comes with before ponying up the cash.:)
I have the HD receiver to fill the void, even if I can't record them. :(

Posted by: rogo

I don't want to speak out of turn, but seek a pre-order and ye shall find one soon enough....

I could care less about the few bugs that might remain. I am too busy suffering through commercials, no live-TV pause, needing to be home, etc. to watch by HDTV.

Enough!

Posted by: oldskoolboarder

do you guys think there'll be a deal to upgrade to HDTivo?

I'm tempted for the current $99 HDTV deal (I only have a dual LNB w/ round dish) but wondering if I should just wait for the HDTivo.

Come on! Speak out of turn already! I wanna preorder! Anybody have a Circuit City receipt I can show for a price match??? ;)

To pre-order try this url...

www(.)valueelectronics.com/avsTC.htm

I would have made it a link, but I haven't posted enough times... Dammit Jim, I'm a lurker not a poster!

Posted by: dcushing

Looked at ValueElectronics offer. It seems he has all the bases covered. I find the UMF pulling pretty hard at the chance to save $100.00.

<http://www.valueelectronics.com/avsTC.htm>. That's an offer I couldn't refuse. Are these people reputable?

Why can't they give faster shipping options on line?

Posted by: tfederov

DAMN YOU PEGASUS!!! Why can't we buy from companies online!?!?!?! I have to wait until they actually hit the stores.

They are reputable, I purchased my Zenith SAT-520 from them.
I am going to go with that offer, Guranteed $100 off the lowest price out there... Can't really go wrong.

:( Guess I will have to use the BB Certificates else where.

For faster Shipping Options, give them a call.

DAMN THE UMF!!! It doesn't take much to convince me to spend more money.

Just don't tell my wife.

Dave

I'd been planning to order from these folks anyway. I got mine in too. The page had been visited 133 times already. If everyone of those visits resulted in an order, they're going fast. :D

The only thing that wasn't obvious to me was how to deal with signing up for service if you're a new customer, so I just paid my deposit and put a note in the comments field that I still need to sign up for service.

Posted by: jeff125va

I know I bought a multi-switch or something from these guys recently. I'd definitely remember if I had any problems, it was only a few months ago.

I assume that the discount from the deposit (up to $100) is off the FINAL selling price, after any price match. Anyone see any reason to think that wouldn't be the case?

No reason not to think that... Plus these vendor has made a significant amount of business from the AVSForum and TivoCommunity.

If they re-nig or don't honor the original deal in good faith, they will get blasted by one of their key sources of business.

So besides B&M places, where can us people out in the Communist NRTC get this stuff?

When did Robert start this offer?

Posted by: neilaevans

Yup,
I'm in too. Although I called and actually ordered it over the phone because I needed to order a new dish as well (it's really disappointing to me to have to pay 100 bucks for a dish...but heck, at least I'm not in Communist NRTC!)

That Wendy over at valueelectronics is very nice...

All you needed to do was call DirecTV and tell them you want to buy a HD receiver but need a 3-LNB dish.

It'd be a lot easier (for me at least) just to give me the option on the order form. I just called them and they were somewhat clueless about it. I have to call them back in a few minutes to find out the answer, and she didn't seem to understand the work "options", "well I guess you could overnight it". 2 day shipping is usuaully a good compromise between anticipation and expense.

Ground shipping takes forever. If I could just go down to my local B&M store and pick one up in the meantime I would be somewhat miffed.

Hey, another New Jersey advantage... close enough to New York for next-day UPS Ground service, and far enough for no sales tax. ;)

I got a quote for shipping here, all the way over to the left cost:

About $75 overnight
About $40 2nd day
About $35 3 day

I went for 2nd day. She wasn't very definate about the price which is a bit disconcerting. I suppose she doesn't know the exact weight yet.

Thanks dswallow. DirecTV is quoting me $50 for the dish and $14 for shipping. They include install on the dish, but not running any additional lines (which I can do myself anyway). Does that seem right to you?

They said I could get the dish cheaper if I was buying an HD receiver from them at the same time...

As always, you guys are a great source of info

Posted by: harambur

when did this offer start? he said he would get his first 300 shipment in april. i kind of wanted earlier to record sopranos in HD, but i guess i can suffer for a month. it will only be 4 episodes i miss that will not be HD.

also, i don't hit my 2 year anniversary with DTV until March 5th. So I have to hold off on the HD deal till then anyway so I can get in for $99. I am hoping that once I sell my two utvs, plus my zenith 1080, and the HD receiver that DTV will send me, my out of pocket for the HD Tivo should be under $200.

Posted by: CamDLux

I just placed my order w/ $100 deposit...Value Electronics came through big time during the HDVR2 fiasco...there is no reason to doubt them.

Posted by: maharg18

Woohoo! I'm signed up!

:D

Posted by: mainecooncat

One of those 300 is coming to me hopefully in time for the 2004 Masters (in HDTV on CBS). I had planned on using a $100 gift card at Best Buy and expected to pay the full $999 price. Now I save $100 by pre-ordering and still have the $100 gift card for Best Buy.

FYI: I saved $163 on a Dell PC for my father this morning using a coupon code provided by a member at FatWallet.com. This afternoon I saved $100 by pre-ordering the HD-DVR250. Thanks.

UPS Ground from Scarsdale, NY to Blacksburg, VA is guaranteed 2 days. Early April could mean shipping out by April 5th and delivery by April 7th which means seeing the Masters in HDTV.

Posted by: jdk

Over 400 visits to the page so far... He says he'll only take 350 pre-orders.

Anyone know when this offer went up? It'll be interesting to see how quickly the pre-orders fill up...

Posted by: daperlman

almost had me... but they don't take Amex...

Posted by: scottchez

One of the Dishnetwork reatailers did this on the 921

they were only able to fill 20 per week when it first came out.

If you are order number 40 or later, I would expect delays. Good thing there is a shipping refund guarantee in there. I think this is a fair deal.

Has anyone called to see if there are any package deals with dish and installation for new subs?

Never mind...I cancelled my dish from Value and went with the $99 HD dish and HD receiver deal from DirecTV. (See the DirecTV forum for details). Also got free locals for six months and 10 bucks off HBO for 6 months. I could have gotten the $20 off Total Premiere Choice if I had wanted to as well. And now once my HD-Tivo shows up, I'll have two older receivers to Ebay (my old HD OTA only and the new HD DirecTV I'm getting next week).

And no 1 year service commitment for anything (not that I'm planning to cancel anyway).

This forum saves me some serious $$$!

Posted by: jdk

Really - no commitment?

Every time I've heard of getting special deals from DirecTV, you have to commit to a year.

Heck - the last time I activated a new DirecTivo online (bought at Circuit City without install), they said I was committing to another year of service.

I'd bet that when you activate your new HD receiver, you'll be told you're committing to another year of Total Choice (at a minimum).

The pre-order page list the following conditions on the deal (item #10):

10. New residential DIRECTV subscribers, signing a 1 yr. programming agreement with my company will get an 18x20 dish and standard professional installation included at no additional cost. Plus up to two additional basic receivers, shipped and installed at no additional cost.

Looks like a new subscriber can get the HD-DVR250, dish, installation and two standard-def receivers for the same price ($899 if you put down $100 deposit plus $15 shipping).

Posted by: BadlyDrawnBoy

I ordered one up. Lets see how it goes.

I have a feeling you're right that they will bring it up when I activate, but no, it was never mentioned (of course I didn't ask). Committment is no problem for me...I wonder if I'll be able to talk them into some additional discount when they force me to make the committment :)

I pre-ordered too... It said $899 ($914 with shipping) on the checkout page. Did I get charged $100 or $914?

I don't understand the no NRTC rule on this one. When these hit CC at $999.00 an NRTC user will be able to purchase one. Since you will be buying this outright with no committment I don't see why VE couldn't sell one.

Anyway, count me in with the Pre-order. I slipped the computer an extra $20 so I would be placed #1 on the list :D

In the description of the offer they say even though the checkout will show the full price, you'll only be charged the deposit amount right now.

We are only charging the deposit, in your case $100.. You also get the $100. discount, so your balance will be $799.99 plus $15. shipping, which will be charged the same day we ship.

Posted by: hongcho

To get a different shipping from Value, I called them. They said, I just need to mention that on the comments sectioni.

For 95124, overnight was $75, 2nd day morning was $50 ($45 for the end of 2nd day).

Please keep us abreast as to when they will be coming in (hourly updates probably would not be a problem!:-) )

Don't worry about the counter. When I first started designing the page I put a counter on it. Between my development, my dramatis personae contributions and vendors approval the counter was at 70 when we launched the offer this morning.

I don't have a total on how many pre-orders have been booked, but it's far below 350.

BTW, doesn't anyone like the Harmony and other special offers?

Are you sure you can't take Pegasus people? I won't tell on you! Do we have any options besides waiting for them to come to stores?

You ain't getting my MX-700 until you pry it out of my cold, dead hands :)

And I did appreciate the additional 10% discount because I was ordering a dish as well...but then I found I was better off just getting the dish from DirecTV so I cancelled that part of the order.

But I did like it, honest :)

Harmony remotes are useful for throwing against a wall. I just remodeled, so I really don't want to damage my walls intentionally. ;)

I'd consider another MX-700 or even an MX-800 but you apparently are an authorized dealer for them, so it's really not price competitive. :(

I see we're on the same wavelength here...though I have to say that as much as I loved my 500, the 700 is so much nicer.

Posted by: jmrife

I took advantage of the pre-order offer (thanks for getting this process started!) and jumped at the Harmony at that price. If you don't know it, this is a truly wife-friendly device that is activity based, rather than device based.

It sets up the macros for you online. The one I recently configured has made a beliver out of my wife who has disliked every other universal remote I have brought into the house, including the Pronto, Sony, One-for-All and others.

So I have bought a second one with my pre-order.

Question: will the Harmony ship separately? I could use it now, not the first week in April.

Mike

Wow, my wife still spontaneously thanks me for both our Prontos. Why didn't your wife like it? Did you just set it up as a universal remote or did you design a truly activity based config? Once I did that, the remotes were perfect. She even loves showing them off to friends who haven't seen them before.

Posted by: JohnTivo

I'm now on board too! :D

Can hardly wait...

Posted by: tomr

I wanna know WHO WAS FIRST?

Posted by: dswallow

I wanna know how much to bribe to be the first unit shipped out. :D

Me 2!

With the TV, DVD, VCR, 2 x SAT-T60's, A/V Receiver and HD-TiVo (Coming......), my wife loves the pronto. I configured it for task based activity, including "Swap's" to other devices and "Dump" current NPL item to tape etc. etc.

It took me some time to perfect, but we're all pleased with it. I'm waiting for it to break so I can get the TSU3000 and those oh so lovely hard buttons!

I love the 3000. I had the original and recently purchsed the 3000. More memory, buttons, much better.

This is a lady who owns her own Jaguar XKE, doing all the maintenance and detailing herself, who owns a floor jack, and a air compressor powered tool array.

All things considered, she'd rather we had a record player, a simple on-off TV, and a clock radio.

Remotes make her nervous. I love her, so I put away the Pronto (for sale cheap to a good home) and fired up the Harmony.

Funny, even the name of the thing is meaningful in my house!

The piggy bank is getting awfully empty. My wife isn't that interested in the HD-DVR250 but she might go for spending another $140 to get rid of all the remotes.

Can I add an order for the Harmony remote after placing an order earlier today for the HD-DVR250 if my wife wants one?

Oh, wait. Your Larry. Nevermind. :D

FYI, FWIW . . . Good Guys is taking pre-orders and offering 10% off ($100) on orders placed by the end of the weekend. Their computer says the wharehouse will be receiving 1,000 HD DVR250's on 3/15/04 (this obviously conflicts with the 3/26/04 shipping date we've all heard about). ALSO, GG requires a 50% deposit!

I placed my order and am onboard with ValueElectronics :p

Do you get the feeling someone just put a random number in for the ship date and number that will be available? :D

Posted by: TallGuy

I just called ValueElectronics and Robert said that his actual pre-orders taken is right around 100 units at this point. Also, he just updated the web site so it offers the faster shipping options. 2-day is $40 extra (so $55 total shipping), I think overnight was $75 extra. It's a lot because the box is 20 pounds. But hey, the $100 discount paid for it, not me.

Posted by: pkscout

OK, I really kind of expected more than that in the first day. In fact, I kind of expected him to fill the pre-order quota in the first day. I guess that means not everyone is as excited about it as I am. I'm not quite excited enough to change the shipping from UPS to something else, but still... ;)

The good news is I'm in the top 100!!! I haven't been in the top 100 of basically anything since high school (and that's only because I graduated in a class of 72). :D

Posted by: bigcb37

I got my pre-order in with VE...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that I'm all set.

Now all I have to fo is get Directv. I wont be getting the new service set up through VE however because as a new customer you can get the HD dish plus 3 standard receiver free and get the installation free as well from best buy. Think I will go with that and ebay the extra receiver when the HD tivo comes...

I remember when the DirecTivo DSR6000 first came out in 2000, GG had an exclusive agreement (for B&M stores at least) for about a month. That was a fiasco.

Does this all mean that DirecTV won't be offering some special deals on the box for new customers? Or do we just not know at this point?

If Good Guys is also taking preorders(with $100 off) then I would think that Circuit City and other places will doing the same soon. It sounds like preordering over the internet won't get it to you any faster than preordering at your local TV place. The Good Guys date is actually 3 weeks earlier than the internet preorder. While that may have been a guess, it sounds like it's all coming out at once.
Speaking of remotes, I sure hope the remote for the HDTivo is as good as the the one I've had with the Phillips 6000. It's by far the best remote I've ever had, I can navigate in the dark as if it's an extension of my hand. Haven't seen a picture of the remote yet. Has anyone else?

We just don't know. But the deal offered at the URL at the beginning means if you put down a $100 deposit the box will only cost $899 (they're giving a discount that matches your deposit, up to $100). And they will lower the price if their price drops, so that might include any new subscriber deals. Lastly, if the price goes up after you pay pre-order, you are locked at the $999 price. That's upward price protection but still an opportunity to save later.

It was worth it for me to just go ahead and order. I wasn't in the "maybe if it cost just a little less camp." I'm in the "I want it and I'll pay for it now." :D

Just go to the FAQ thread, click on the HD250 spec sheets. A small picture was on either of them.

I know GG is saying 3/15 but I have to believe that Valuelectronics is pretty positive it won't be untill April since he makes this statement:

5. All orders are final and I will refund 100% of the money, upon request, only if you can purchase the HD-DVR250 anywhere else sooner than I can ship.

Anyone gambling they'll be hard to get and could be sold on EBay for $1,200 or more once you have some? ;)

Not me. I want one, and I want other folks to have one too. I'm just generous that way.

One per customer please. :D

So what is a guy to do who has no HDTV Monitor to even pair something like this up with? :D

Sigh, anyway, if all goes well, I will crossover from my 27inch POS to 56 inches or better of HDTV love by the end of the year. And I will definitely add one of these bad boys to service it.

...you guys forced my hand. $100.00 to the man with the HDTivo offer

Posted by: paulj

I just pre-ordered at Good Guys. I'm #10 in the country. They've been told not to tell people that they can pre-order, but if you ask they'll take your order. My guess is that Good Guys would receive a decent portion of the first shipment given their sales volume.

Dammit! Now I'm broke again. I promised myself no more UMF 'til May but if I sell my Zenith 520 for $400 and my S1 DTiVo for $200... and if I can sell my Panasonic DVD player sitting on the subwoofer for $75 and get another $25 for that SVideo switch box, I'll only be out $200 for my new toy.....

Works for me.........

Posted by: willjob

Howdy.

I want to pre-order the HD-DVR250 but do not have service to dtv yet. What is the best way to sign up for service, get the HD-DVR250, and get the best deal on new service?

I will probably go with the TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER with Local Channels package.

Great forum! I look forward to your response and thanks in advance.

Posted by: EJ

I did it...ever have the moment when you have the mouse over the "order" button...I actually closed the browser window without ordering....then I thought...4 tuners...bigger hard drive...I can sell my series 1 with the 120gig drive...sell my Samsung t-160...

Anyway, I opened my browser and ordered it. I can't wait!

Posted by: hoby

All I can say, is I got one of the first HDVR2 boxes from them, and it was a bad unit, they OVERNITED a replacement for SATURDAY delivery at their cost to me, and I was amazed at their great service! I spoke with him on the phone and all I can say, is he really cares about his customers, and that counts for something in this day and age of internet scammers and such. ValueElectronics doing this is a huge FAVOR to this board as far as I am concerned, and I just put down my $100 for my preorder!

So far, I believe Robert has proven to be an upstanding supplier. I didn't buy an HDVR2 at its first shipment, but I remember a lot of disappointment and anger in the forums over missed dates and shipments from 'other' online and B&M locations. But a new company literally appeared in the middle of this - value electronics - that was able to deliver upon its promises. So far I haven't come across any negative feedback about his company in these forums. (if someone recalls otherwise, please chime in).

Anyway, With this track record, I'm much more inclined to believe Robert's 1st person report that Hughes will start shipping on March 26th vs. Goodguys' computer reports of 3/15.

But hey - Robert's such a nice guy - you can put your order into both places, and he won't penalize you if you're able to get it 1st from somewhere else.

(disclaimer - I have no personal, professional or economic connection to Value Electronics. In fact, I've actually never been a customer with them, but expect to be one with one of the 1st shipments of the HD-DVR250)

Posted by: aaron.s

Thanks for this thread guys!

I'm in too... Had sent Robert a PM several days ago about a pre-order but he didn't get it.... so thanks for this link.

The BEST part about all of this?..... I live 5 minutes away from his store!!! I'll be able to pick mine up as soon as he gets his shipment. He say's he should be getting all 300 in at once!

Looks like I'll have mine up and running the same day! The wires are all ready to be plugged out of my old SAT-T60 and into the HD-DVR250!

Todd - only in NY

Just pre-ordered as well. One would hope that if the system accepts the order then you must be inside of the first 350. One would hope. I am also seriously looking forward to getting the Harmony remote.

According to the latest news on PVRLOG www dot pvrblog dot com, street price for the unit will be between $699 and $899. So while his offer is good, it's apparently not the best there is going to be.

Robert

Posted by: Gromit

I just placed my order. Due to the $999 price, I was going to wait. But I'm a sucker for $100 off.

Can you guys help me figure out what else I'm going to need? I currently have a single LNB dish going to a 2 x 4 switch which in turn feeds 2 DirecTiVo receivers. I want to keep the upstairs DirecTiVo box as is, and use the HD box downstairs.

I think DirecTV will upgrade my dish for free after rebate once I subscribe to the HD package.

What switch do I need? With my 2 lines coming into the downstairs receiver, is it possible to use both my current DirecTiVo receiver along with the new one? I'm not sure if that would be worth it though. It might be too confusing. I was thinking I could use my existing DirecTiVo box for recording non-HD stuff.

Other than that, I guess I need to get an antenna for the attic. According to antennaweb.com, I should be able to get all my locals but I'll probably have to get a pretty big antenna.

Oh yeah, for my TV.... I have a Sony KV-32HS500 (gotta go bigger later on). It has a DVI input and according to the manual "Can accomodate a copy-protected digital connection (HDCP) to other devices that have compatible interfaces". Do I still need an adapter?

Edit: I'm reading the FAQ again, so maybe I'll be able to answer my own questions. Sorry!

I believe "the street" they were referring to was HERE. $699-899 was bandied about BEFORE the official DirecTV release. Also the different size machines were also talked about here but announcement of any other size has not been made.

I don't think you'll have to change too much. When you add HD, DirecTV will provide a 3-LNB dish and install (either free or for a minimal price -- which right now you could get WITH a standard DirecTV HD receiver for only $99 so maybe you should do that now since getting the dish alone seems to be around $50-$70 with shipping).

The DirecTV HD DVR just needs two lines from the multiswitch, so if you're replacing an existing DirecTV DVR, you've already got the lines run. If you get the standard HD receiver and satellite dish now, you should tell them you have 5 tuners total and will need a 5x8 multiswitch (which as I understand they usually throw in for you as part of the install -- making that $99 HD deal really good).

As for antennas, unless you've got some VHF digital stations, the Channel Master 4228 seems to be among the more popular around here because of it's compact size; you should also consider a Channel Master 7777 or 7775 preamp, and possibly a rotator. www.warrenelectronics.com is where I bought my antenna equipment. Get all this installed now and you'll be plug-and-go when the DirecTV HD DVR is out. :)

I am sure this is not a reliable prediction on the "street price" of the HD-DVR250. The prediction goes on to say.. "depending on manufacturer and HD capacity", which manufacturers and what different HD capacities could they be talking about? Further the low end of the "Street price" is far below my actual true net cost. As with all new high-tech products I am sure we will see a price drop after 6-12 months of market exposure.

Here's the exact quote. Interesting they are also quoting and linking to TC. Very flattering to all of us.
"Word on the street is that the units will cost somewhere around $699-899 depending on storage space and manufacturer. If any of the above technical jargon sounds like greek to you, the best source of background info on it is the TiVo Community board's new section devoted to HD TiVo, and more specifically the FAQ on all things HDTV TiVo and DirecTiVo. It does a great job explaining everything known about the upcoming units, what kind of hardware you'll need, what channels you'll get, and how it will operate."

BTW we're up to 163 advance orders as of 1/17/04 1:42 PM.

OK, I jumped on the bandwagon early this morning. So, how are we gonna convert from HDMI to DVI? Geffen has a 10 foot HDMI to DVI cable for $60, but I already have a 10 foot DVI cable installed to the projector. Is there a connector adaptor available?

The HD-DVR250 comes with a HDMI - DVI cable. You may need a gender changer.

Larry,

I will do my best.... As I said, I already have all the cables ready - just need to literally disconnect the SD Tivo (and my Samsung TS-160 HD Receiver) and replace them with the HD Tivo.

Will have my digital camera ready and take pictures during the process and post them with a review as close to real time as I can manage :)

I am holding back as I hoping there is some kind of discount for new customers. Something more than the $100 PER ORDER discount.

I already to leave Dishnetwork.

Dishnetwork is doing a $200 Discount for there new customers on the HD 921 Tivo like box that has many issues.

Posted by: Todd

I went ahead and took the plunge! I had a nice conversation with Robert and they sound like good people to deal with too! I ordered the HDTiVo along with 1 extra basic receiver and dish for free.

As for numbers of orders, he's getting close to 200 at this point. :)

Posted by: troybarwick

I almost took the plunge, but I need an extended warranty. I paid big $$ to repair my DSR6000 when the hard drive died. The Series 2 wasn't out yet, and no one had any more Series 1 models. The timing was really bad, but I learned that I need the extended warranty. I'll have to wait for Best Buy or Circuit City.

If I'm not mistaken $5.99 is the monthly fee for the non-TiVo type receivers. Arent' the TiVo flavored machines $7.99 a month?
Has anyone asked Robert from Value if they will offer an extended warranty? I do agree on a high ticket item like this it would be added piece of mind.

Another thing to consider is most credit and debit cards will add a full year to whatever the standard warranty is.

I just went the "change programming package" area on DirecTV.com. It just says $5.99, no mention of more for TiVos. That's over $200 for 3 years, but might be worth it in the short term until drive upgrades become available and the price starts dropping.

Okay guys, I just did the offer so I will be a new DTV sub when this thing ships. Did I make a mistake? I did the 100 deposit. I hope these things don't sell for less to new subs later... Oh well I was salavating over this thing, had to do it!

Does it also come with the RGB cables? I would assume so since it comes with the DVI cable.

Todd,
Are they going to go ahead and install your dish, run the cables and the extra receiver now? That way when the HD-DVR250 ships all you will have to do is plug it in and not have to wait for an appointment.
If your the same Todd on the SE virginia/NE north carolina thread, thanks for the heads up.

Hey Subcook! I called and talked to them to make sure I get it right since I'll be a new customer. He offered to send a regular receiver and get me switched over to DirecTV now and then wait for the TiVo unit. For several reasons, I declined and will wait to switch once the new boxes come in. You however, could do it now if you want. Just call and talk to Robert.

He offered me that as well. It was very gracious of him but since I already have Dish and a 721 I will wait. Can't live 3 months without a DVR. :)

Has anyone asked about getting a HDVR2 (or whatever they call it now) as a new subscriber you should be able to get one pretty cheap. Robert do you have some package like this. after all DirecTV will let you have as many DVRs as you want for the $4.99. Why have a regular receiver when you could have a TiVo! Dump Dish (in Todd's case COX) get the lines ran so you won't have to wait impatiently for the installer when it finally arrives. Just my opinion.

p.s. 721's are selling on e-bay for $400-$500 if it were me that money would be going straight to value electronics.

Andrew

Posted by: Todd

Subcook, they are selling the DirecTivo units for only $39.99. I didn't order one of those because the second receiver was going into my bedroom and I don't want to the hear the hard drive overnight...

Posted by: subcook

That is a steal. Good point though. Have you thought about locating it in your living room with your HDTiVo, using a diplexer and routing it to your bedroom from the RF out? that way you could use the HDTiVo solely for HD material and still have access to SD material in the living room and your bedroom. Just a thought.

Well my order is in as off about 9pm last night. Sounds like I should still be in the first batch. The only problem is, I keep hitting the FF button on my remote but it's still January.

Funny, I just thougth about it I'll actually save $5 per month because I'll be replacing both my Panasonic HD receiver and my DSR6000. So this thing will pay for itself in only 15 years.

mine's in too, I'll buy one that way and wait on the other until closer to time

I took the plunge as a new subscriber too. I'm going to pay whatever it is when it finally ships and not look back, but here's what I'm thinking.

VE has said that if their cost goes down, so does ours. So if D* offers a new subscriber deal, it is very possible that VE's "cost" will go down because D* is subsidizing the box further. So *maybe* I'll get one of the first batch *and* get a new subscriber deal.

As I said, the price I'm paying is OK with me, but if I can get a new subscriber deal as well, more power to me. :D

Posted by: llogan

If I were a new subscriber, I'd likely wait to see what new subscriber offers DirecTV offers as opposed to going with this deal but that's just my two cents. Dealers are generally given the option to pass along very aggressive new subscriber deals but they sometimes differ on the actual offers that they provide, I'm unsure as to what Value Electronics' history has been in this arena.

The way the 921 sounds, I am glad I am switching to the HD Tivo! Sounds like the 921 has some serious issues. Just read about a retailer that had a bunch on order and DISH pulled them and gave no real reason.. http://www.vssll.com/921issues.html Interesting!

Hey Robert, I have 3 questions about this deal.

1) Any reason you know that Good Guys would be quoting an earlier shipping date? Are you just being conservative or will they get them earlier? Doesn't matter to me since there aren't any in the Chicago area, but hoping that we might see something ealier than expected.

2) Can I assume that you haven't reached the limit yet and thus, if we've already placed the order that we are under the 350 limit.

3) Is is April yet????????????

I pre-ordered this AM. Are all 300 of this first batch of pre-orders to go out in the first few days?

1.) A. Yes, I am being conservative. Hughes executives have repeatedly told me that they will ship by March 26, 2004. However, I have been closely involved with many high tech new product launches and more often than not we experience delays. In this case I do think Hughes will be on-time.
B. The product ships from Mexico and most GG's are located in Southern CA. I think they go to a GG warehouse for re-shipment to the stores, like BB and CC does, which will delay the arrival in the stores. GG's might have a little advantage by being located close to the manufacturing facility.
2. Moments ago we reached 200. 4:47 PM EST.
3. Just 73 days to go and counting!

I do prefer to deliver early or timely, vs. make optimistic promises and worry about coming up a little short.

I'm in.

Yes, our plan is to ship all of them the same day they arrive. We will carefully tract the delivery once it leaves the factory and work through the night with a team, to get all of the UPS and Fed Ex shipping labels done in advance of the shipment arrival.

73 days....an eternity.....but I guess I've waited years...so what's another 1752 hours!

Sounds tremendous, Robert!

Or get a different credit card :D

Posted by: Alexander

Nah, AmEx rules. I use it whenever possible for the following reasons:

1) Best cash-back card
2) Easy (and effective) online dispute process
3) Good benefits -- extended warranty and accidental damage coverage
4) They've always been generous to me regarding credit line

On the downside, they do aggressively send you junk mail, but so do many other card issuers. I understand why some merchants don't accept it. That's a choice they make, and I can make the choice not to buy from them. ;)

For existing DirecTV customers, is there any requirement to add a DirecTV HD programming package, or is it simply enough to activate it (with mirroring fee if not replacing an existing receiver)? I fully expect a 1 year comitment to maintain DirecTV service (at Total Choice or better?).

Posted by: scottchez

What is the special that Expert Satilite is doing. Someone said they are going to match the price plus include free 2nd day air.

Posted by: llogan

If you already have equipment, adding the HD programming package incurs no other commitment.

Posted by: gfb107

I wasn't asking if adding and HD programming package incurs a commitment.

I was asking if purchase and activation of the HD-DTiVo incurs a commitment to a HD programming package.

No, it does not. You would only be committed to 1 year of programming at Total Choice or above.

Maybe, but maybe not. I have been with DTV since day 1. Two months ago I bought my first TiVo so I called to activate a third DTV. The cost would be an additional 4.99 for the TiVo plus $4.99 for the third box. No mention of any commitment and I subscribe to Select Choice.

I'm officially in. Perhaps I may find a better deal if I wait awhile after its release and do a lot of research, but this way, I'm done thinking about it.

I plan on using it in addition to my SAT-T60. I just got back from being away this weekend, only to find that my wife deleted some of my favorite unwatched shows in favor of Blue's Clues. That did it. I will keep this bad boy for my use only. No kids shows allowed (even if there is plenty of space for SD).

Well, I'm in too. Couldn't resist the "bargain"

And take advantage of such a nice guy? :)

Seriously, the cart was not even working during the testing....

That's what I said, if you already have equipment, purchase, activate, whatever, you don't incur a commitment to the HD package unless you purchased the HD promo package.

I'm in, too. I had been considering throwing a MyHD card into a multimedia PC, but decided against it. Too much work and I would greatly miss the Tivo interface.

I love my HDTV, but I hate having to watch it live. Tivo has spoiled me...

I'm in as well, ordered one of those Harmony SST-659
Remotes also...looking forward to getting rid of the digital cable. :D

Thank you Graham for your prompt reply's, hope I wasn't too much of a pain in the rear with the remote confusion. :)

Just ordered mine too from Value electronics. I sent an email asking them to confirm that I am within the first 300 orders. Waiting. . . .

April, is that you?

Posted by: mknoebel

I haven't received a confirmation email yet either, but I figure they got a bit of work to catch up on after a busy weekend!
:D

Just be aware that Value is not an authorized Harmony dealer, so you'll get no warranty coverage from Harmony if there's a problem.

I'm placing my preorder on the DVR250 right now though. :)

I'm in on this pre-order! Thanks to DTV TiVo Dealer and AVS!

We are authorized Harmony dealers and buy in large volume from Harmony directly. I also noticed that we were not listed on there site as authorized dealers and called them this morning. I am sure they will update the site, in the next couple of days, with our company information and list us in our local area as well as authorized and hot linked nationwide on-line dealers.

The reason we were not listed is that we only recently became direct authorized dealers and they have not update the Harmony site with our dealer information.

Sorry we have not email responded. We are up to 219 as of 1:09 PM EST today.

Posted by: Tom_E316

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't see you on the Harmony website and I've seen too many people get burned by non-authorized resellers of that and other products (especially on Ebay where everyone claims you'll get a warranty).

Posted by: kssmyth

I am in, just fired off the order!

Posted by: Jim Skripchuk

Just ordered one also.

Hope I make it in the first 300!

Other than GG and VE, does anyone know of any other stores that are offering a pre-order on this unit? Or do either of these companies offer 18 to 24 months no interest payments?

I usually buy my stuff from BB and CC only b/c of that fact.

Thanks,
Dennis

Posted by: Kamakzie

DTV TiVo Dealer, I forgot to ask the other night. I am getting the HD Tivo along with the free phase 3 dish and 2 standard receivers. What switch will that come with?

Posted by: PJO1966

I have a question for Robert as well. I appreciate the fact that you are giving some extra leeway as far as the ship date goes. I would probably be one of the many people nagging you if it didn't ship on time. How much of a heads-up to you forsee us getting as to when we will need to send the rest of our payments to you before you are actually shipping orders?

I have never known BestBuy or Circuit City to take pre-orders on consumer electronics. With the exception of the game system releases that is.
So I would not expect to see one.

Posted by: subcook

I and many others preordered our HDVR2's (not HDTiVo's) from circuit city. They might do it eventually, but have not made the announcement yet.

Andrew

This offer is too tempting, I had to preorder.

Good Guys typically offers no payment/no interest plans for 12-24 months. However, keep in mind, GG considers the HD TiVo a special order until it arrives in their wharehouse, which means GG is requiring a 50% deposit up front). I would contact GG to find out specifics about financing options.

Im in - just hope the tuners work as well as my trusty DTC 100

Bruce

Posted by: jenfavre

Sorry for the basic question, but I really know very little about how all this stuff works. I'm just happy when it does.

I'm having the dtv HDTV package installed tomorrow mostly for the Superbowl but in part to get a jump on what hardware will be required once the HD tivo comes out. If I preorder the HD tivo, will I just be able to plug it in with what I get out of this HDTV installation? Or will I require any other type of installation?

thanks!

DTV Tivo Dealer (Robert), any idea when we can expect our confirmation email? I know you guys are busy, but I just want to be on the lookout for it...Thanks in advance.
