I thought that was only in my house. We have only been married a mere 22 years.

For those of you paying attention <http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...249#post1811249>, I now have no wisdom teeth, but I also have no HD TiVo (neither does PJO1966). I'm feeling quite well currently.

... so much for optimism. The good news is that I'll have mine in 6 days.

And/or the price of pre-recorded material.

I feel your pain. I'm a Red Sox Fan. The 1967 World series against the Cardinals still hurts. Don't even mention Last season.

Really? As a (then) Cardinal fan, NOBODY was gonna beat Gibson that year.

We won't even mention Bill Buckner... :D

UPS vs Fed Ex...

I used to ship with Fed Ex... only because I had an account and had never bothered opening one with UPS.. I often ship expensive electronics. One day I shipped a $4000 piece of gear. The person recieving it said the box was damaged (as if it had fallen). Of course I had insured it. Well guess what. FedEx would not pay the damage . I talked to supervisors etc and basically they said that I should expect that a big box (about the size of a HD Tivo) rolling around on belts might fall and break. But that as long as the unit itself isn't damaged then they can't do anything about it. They told me to use UPS instead.
I have ever since.

Hey dswallow.. how many people on the list... I've tried to count but it just feels like too many... ;-)

SPRINT has a commercial out that I think can help you.

Yaz, Conigliaro, and Longbourg weren't exactly slouches either. I must humbly admit That I even admired Lou Brock and his stolen bases.

Glad to hear they came out okay. Isn't it great not having to worry about them anymore!

Using Excel (cut and paste), I show 406 individuals. Now, at least 3 show multiple units, and all of the missing ones factor in to overall position. I show myself as 276, but I think that it could probably be double that.

No, not sloches.

But hardly a match for perhaps the best pitcher of all time.

Just mho.

So it's a slow Friday...

So I've graphed the distribution of orders per day (2.5 weeks) based on Doug's listing and then based on Robert's numbering when available (so it stops after 350...)

Like I said, it's a slow day...

I will now try to extrapolate some weird info from all that :D

Ok, this shows how many pre-orders per day were done, based on the list from doug (which is incomplete) and based on the official ranking from Robert (which is also incomplete.)

I'm just trying to extrapolate the rate of decline to figure out my happiness factor in April ;)

Of course, this is bogus Friday evening statistics so, take it with a grain of salt (or a grain of something else if expecting your beloved HD Tivo already gives you hypertension.)

Here is the answer!

Why February has 28 Days

Because its the first month of the year.

(For this to make sense you have to think like a Roman.)

Because Augustus Caesar thought he was just as important as Julius Caesar, so his month should also have 31 days. The extra day had to come from somewhere so it was taken from February. Given that there are approx 365 1/4 days in a year, you need an extra day every 4 years. Putting the extra day at the end of the year makes sense. But you should really blame Julius, he invented the calendar.

This was actually a good idea at the time. Previously the end of the year was a political descision made by the Senate. The Senators term would finish at the end of the year. Now imagine giving a politician the power to decide when he gets kicked out of office, just imagine the hilarity which ensues. A standardised calendar was a very good idea.

February used to be the last month of the year.

I wasn't arguing with myself, the two statements do not conflict.

However, I'm feeling quite normal, the drugs didn't seem to have that much of an effect on me, apart from a missing 50 min. I havn't touched the Hydrocodein.

More likely is complaints about why we haven't received our HD Tivos or why we can't activate or why it doesn't work or the bugs noone knew about.

And I'm an optimist.

Well, those are my thoughts too. But I didn't want to spread any bad vibes....

Called D* yesterday to deactivate a standard receiver that I am replacing with the SD Tivo that I am currently using until the HD Tivo arrives Thursday. When I told the CSR that I was doing it now to keep from having to call Thursday because I wanted to be able to activate my HD Tivo when it came in Thursday online and not have to phone in to deactivate my old receiver she actually seem knowledgeable about expecting calls to activate the new HD Tivo's starting 4/1. Looks like everything is coming together.

That is a relief! :D

I have had several D* cards killed accidently by a newbie CSR when attempting to change the receiver unit in my HDTV after repairs. Four cards killed in the last year.

The reason the HDTV had the cards replaced is a whole saga that is still in process. :( All I can say is "Avoid RCA/Thomson products" The retailer I purchased the TV from has bent over backwards to help. The CSR who replaced the TV was very helpful, beyond belief, but the quality of the repair parts was terrible.

If you want to know more send me a PM and I will elaborate.

Nuff said!!

So does anybody want to guess who will actually be the first person on the list to receive their HD-TIVO.

The catch is they will have to post proof that they got it .

How do they prove it?

Can a tracking number be posted so see it is delivered via UPS of FEDEX. The poor guy that monitors the hits on tracking of packages would really be puzzled? Why is everyone so interested in that tracking number....:D

Proof= Pictures of the unit set up in the home or theater..and no photoshop jobs.We want to see first to use his.

Posted by: bollar

I'd be willing to have it shipped FedEx first overnight if I could use my own account number. :)

a picture of the sealed box in the lucky persons hands would be enough for proof of delivery.

How confident is everyone that the first HD TiVO's will be bug free?

Do you feel like guinea pigs, or does TiVO's reputation override your worst fears?

I just did exactly the same thing. I asked if they had the HD Tivo in their system and he said not yet. He said they've been looking for it to pop up in their systems because they've been getting a lot of calls asking about it. I am truly impressed that he even knew what I was talking about. Well see what happens on Thursday when I get home from work and I try to activate the new addition to the family.

While he was deactivating my Panny (ebay here I come), he aked if I would mind telling him where I ordered it from and how much I paid. I told him and he thought it was a great deal. I agreed.

Now the big question - do I sell the old Sammy HD box, or put it in the bedroom and start lobbying the wife for a "small" HDTV?

Why is that, since the first 2 shipments of units are coming from California...? ;)

For all those in this thread who ordered from the Good Guys, there is different info coming out. To find out when they will have them in the stores and deliver the preorders, you can call their Corporate headquarters toll free at 800 229-4897 Monday morning. If enough people call they will get the idea that they shouldn't let these things just sit in a warehouse somewhere. Talk is that they will take delivery as early as March 31st. If this is true, with enough phone calls we might get them off their rears and have these things to the stores a couple days after then.

Someone needs to repost this Monday to keep the phone call lobby alive! Call Monday and get GG out and rolling. They are suppose to get 1,000 units total. I was told that they were expecting all 1,000 in their first shipment, but that was by a salesman simply looking at the computer. If they do get all 1,000, that means there will be an extra 500 or so to pick off the shelves around April 7th or so. I was told as a pre-order person, my unit would be taken out of the warehouse directly and sent to the local store. I am going to find out if I can pick up at the warehouse. If the salesperson is correct, that would mean I might have mine the morning of the 1st in the Bay Area. He is checking to see, but doesn't think a warehouse pick-up is possible unless approved by the warehouse manager.

So, there is definitely conflicting info. One day you check and GG says April 10th will be store delivers, check with Corporate and depending who you talk to, it is anywhere between the first and tenth. Give them a call and see what you can find out Monday!!

Yeah, like I'm so sure you don't have it coming priority overnight.

Absolutely, positively by 8 AM EST is five in the morning where I live.

Of course, I COULD arrange a DHL point to point pickup and have the unit on Wednesday... (Don't tempt me.... PLEASE!) :D

Good point.

OK, how about this... we'll have 4 different things we're look for firsts for:

1) First person to receive shipment of their unit within their time zone.

2) First person to receive shipment of their unit based on local time. (i.e.; person A gets their at 8:05am PT beats out person B who receives there's at 8:10am ET).

3) First person to set up and activate their unit and be recording using both tuners within their time zone.

4) First person to set up and activate their unit abd be recording both tuners based on local time.

#1 and #3 will have multiple winners each, one in each time zone.

#2 and #4 will have a single winner each.

All this hoopla is really out of proportion, IMHO. I have an HD TV, I have the D* HD package, my locals transmit in HD (those shows that are HD). I look forward to getting my HD TiVo, just like everyone else. But, and this is a small but, I am more caught up in the fever here because of the fever, not for any really practical reason. There is far too little HD out there that is worthwhile. I am not sure just how often I really need an HD TiVo. If there is so few good programs, it will sit idle too often, for HD at least. Yeah, great to watch certain shows on disk, such as West Wing, so I can zip through commercials, but I usually watch it live anyway, when it is a new show.

Speaking of which, seems like the shows that are in HD don't really take full advantage of it. One of my favorite shows, Sopranos, is HD. But the taping is done in a dark filtered method which doesn't allow for the full value of HD, as it is really dark. West Wing is about the same. HD, for me at least, really shines when it is bright, like the nature shots or something like a basketball game. I wish I loved hockey, man, HD galore there!

So, I eagerly await my HD unit, but I'm not sure it won't be just a little disappointing in the amount of use I will get out of it. I have called D*, as well as emailed them, to lobby for more HD. They are considering HD Bravo and USA Network for the immediate future. that would be cool. They will also ask you for your choice for future HD. D* said they were beginning to get many phone calls and suggestions. I suggest everyone participate. They satisfied my requests and even gave me a major freebie for my complaint and suggestions. D* appears to really be trying to make HD better and better and with more people lobbying them, the results should be sooner, not later.

So, when everyone gets their units, I wonder if we will use it more, or less than we expected. Some people, I'm sure, already have "needs" for the unit, others like me, hope we need it!

:)

My situation is a little different. With the shows that I watch, being able to timeshift will be of great importance to me. I currently only use my HD receiver for an hour a week, and that's only because I make the effort to see Smallville live in order to catch it in HD. All the other shows that I watch that are currently available in HD get viewed through the TiVo because I am unable or unwilling to schedule my life around them. My HD TiVo will be getting a workout. Wednesday alone has Smallville, Angel (not for much longer), and Kingdom Hospital. If the local UPN would get off its tail I would add Star Trek to that list. Then there are the short duration series on HBO & Showtime. I count 5 that I watch. There will be a very busy TiVo in my house. I'm the only slacker allowed around here.

Posted by: dswallow

A significant majority of things I record are available in HD. And for the last year it's been frequently annoying balancing my desire to see them in HD versus convenience of not worrying about when they're on so I don't have to watch them live. I'd say I've gone out of my way quite a lot to watch things live if in HD, and it'll be very nice to have my schedule back to not worrying at all about live TV.

Of all available-but-not-carried-by-DirecTV HD channels (excluding network stuff), I don't think there's a single program I watch regularly that I'm missing the opportunity to see in HD.

Posted by: bertschb

I've been recording OTA HD using my Zenith HDR-230 for almost a year now. Virtually all the HD content I watch is on after I go to bed so the Zenith has been wonderful. But, the Zenith is really just a glorified VCR. It has a couple of Tivo-like features (e.g. pause live TV) but they aren't very well implemented. I want my HD Tivo so I don't have to keep switching back and forth between the HDR-230 and the SD Tivo. It's getting old. What's been cool for me is my wife actually can't wait for the HD Tivo. She doesn't like switching inputs on the TV, changing the audio input on the receiver, switching from the HDR-230 to the Tivo remote, etc. The HD Tivo is the easiest electronic gadget I've had to justify in many years.

I'm looking forward to the HD Tivo but not nearly as bad as some of you. I can't imagine what it's been like for some of you who have an HD compatible TV without an HD recorder.

I'm order #13109 so I have a few weeks left to wait....

Might be just as fun to see who has the LOWEST Serial number on the box after all of the dust settles.

The first guy to get his/hers....may not get the first one off of the assembly line.

Actually, I really don't want that one....would like to see them assemblers get into a settled down mode before they get their hands on my assemblage of hardware in close formation.

There's plenty of stuff that I normally watch that is in HD. Most of it is of so-so actual video quality. Things like sit-coms, while nice to watch in HD, aren't worth watching live just for that.

But there are 15 scheduled HD White Sox games I really want to see. Then there are the golf tournaments on CBS and of course the Triple Crown races. Just those things alone make it worthwhile to me.

You assuming the seriial numbers start at the beginning. Sometimes they start with whatever the closest box of tags is handy.

But a good idea none the less.

this year i broke down and decided to watch Sopranos in SD. It wasn't so bad. the previous seasons i had watched on dvd. part of breaking down was because i knew the hd-tivo was coming.

i am hoping 24 will benefit from widescreen fox, along with Idol.

i think Star Trek in my area is in HD, though not 100 percent sure.

the last show is, Fear Factor. you get some cuties on there, but I don't think they broadcast it in HD.

i am also hoping there are enough good movies on hbo in HD so I can cancel netflix.

everything else that i record, wouldn't really benefit from HD.

According to Good Guys they are now expecting delivery to stores April 12. They have over 400 on back order!

Posted by: tarmack

That is probably pretty accurate news...and it should put a dent or two into the dreams of those "Sooners" and JoeGolf that are having such high hopes on the other thread that is mostly dealing with GG.

Well, I'm probably looking forward to this even more than most, because I've had an HD set for a little over 2 years now, but wouldn't by a receiver until I could have Tivo on it. So this has been an EXCRUCIATING wait for me, but it's almost over now. I came close to breaking down a few times and getting a receiver anyway, especially last football season, but I'm glad I waited now.

I'm glad someone else mentioned "24" and "Idol". They might not be true hi-Def yet(Fox) but they are right on top of my enjoyment list. The real benefit of the HD Tivo for our family, me and the dog(oh ya, and the wife) will be "Alias" in glorious HD. Not much mention of this show but it has to be one of the best shows for me in years. Suspensful, gripping, thrilling, action-packed, and Jennifer Garner is gorgeous - nuf said.

I'm also looking forward to recording "8 Simple rules" and "NCIS" in the theatre at the same time in Hi-Def and watching "Idol" on the tv upstairs. All on same time Tuesday.

I can't wait for next season of American Idol when Fox would have transitioned to true hidef. Then it will be glorious. Of course Paula might not benefit from all the extra detail :)

And the vote: Fedex for ON, 2nd, 3rd. UPS for Ground.

how true, Paula is still cute but showing some age. Pretty soon she'll be wearing those scarfs around her neck hiding her "waddle" just like Murphy Brown...

off topic: anyone enjoying the return of "Crossing Jordan" on NBC in glorious HD?? I like this show because the coroners are never happy just dissecting their subjects finding out How they died... they have to turn into investigators and find out who killed them too.

what is the best way to find out all the programming for a particular channel for a month in advance?

i want to use that to help me setup hd movie recordings for the tivo. i know the guide data doesn't go that far, but i still would like for example to see everything that will be on hbo in HD for the coming month in list view. i don't want have to keep scrolling through a grid.

i took a look at titantv but it only gives me one day at at time in list view.

Posted by: joegolf68

mikemaan, where did you get your information? I spoke with local salesman and with corporate hq. and both say the GG computer is expecting delivery to the stores much sooner than April 12th. Never heard that date mentioned. But I have heard that they expect delivery within the warehouse to be March 31st. Anyone can call Good Guys Corporate HG on Monday at 800 229-4897 (a FREE call of course) and let them know that you want the unit ASAP and why are web service providers expected to beat them???)

Again, the more that call on Monday, to GG Corporate at 800 229-4897 (toll free) the more info they are likely to gather for us. Let them know that everyone is watching and that most of the people don't think GG's can beat their competition!!!!

Gee, Can't wait!!!! But will have to as I am out of town for the next week anyway. But I will take down their toll free number 800 229-4897 (free anywhere in the US) and call them Monday. Maybe I'll give them a cal Tuesday too! Call often and let them know there is a race on! lol

The manager at the Good Guys in Chino, CA told me that HD-Tivo units were scheduled to be shipped to the GG warehouse in Northern CA on the 31st. After inventory, distribution and loadout, they are scheduled to be shipped to the individual stores the week of the 5th. Since it is only a day to ship back to Southern CA, I might see my preorder as early as the 6th or 7th. BTW, my pre order price was $899.

Well, that is the kind of info I am getting. That is why I am asking everyone to call 800 229-4897, a free pohone call to GG coporate and ask them to get these out of the warehosue ASAP. If enough of us call, they will move these things out on the same day and we will have them on April 2nd. Of course, who knows. All is speculation, but it is the way to get GG off the dime.

So, call them Monday and let everyone know by continuing the post for a pohone call lobby.

But isn't there a lot more detail in the dark stuff? West Wing is one of my favorite shows, but also IMHO one of the worst lit (whats with the random circles of light on the floor of all the hallways) shows on TV. I was hoping HD was going to make it look better.

Did you happen to ask them how they were receiving more units than were being made during the first 2 weeks? ;)

It's been repeated a number of times that Good Guys ordered 1,000 units. Then they started taking pre-orders from end users. So that probably explains where the "1,000" comes from. It has no bearing on delivery; it is what they ordered.

Now I hope for your sake they didn't do something stupid like place the order such that no partial shipments are allowed... it might be some weeks before they get any if they did that.

Have you tried to talk to the individual at Good Guys who actually deals directly with DirecTV in purchasing these units? Whoever they are would likely have a little more accurate info available. I think everything else you're getting told is just someone reading info out of their computer system as if it represented what really will be happening.

Posted by: joegolf68

dswallow

I am not sure, The salesperson told me they were expecting 1,000 units. I was about 120 on the order list so I didn't care a heck of a lot. The coporate guy said they were expecting 1,000 units but I didn't press him either. If they get the full 1,000, it wouldn't seem to out of line for a company that big. I don't know where all the info about productionn is coming, but if you have a line with the corporation's operation manager, your info is probably better than mine. Rumors and specualtion, hard to tell.

But for those who ordered with the Good Guys, I suggest they call Monday to find out. If enough people call, they will find out the details I would think. Their free number is: 800 229-4897

That number is for the Good Guy's Corporate offices which should be able to get things moving!

;)

That was kind of my point. The Sporanos and West Wing are pretty dark and don't take full advantage of HD. A show like JAG would look awesome, as would Mac, in HD!!!!

Value Electronics making HD-TIVO claims by the second week-

If the Good Guys comes through, this is going to be quite a coup. In reality....... I can wait. If I had my unit right now, I probably would still be watching regualr TV. I do see that some of the people here though do have a need for their HD TiVo, and that is cool! For me, ho, hum...... but if it is life or death for some...... that is ok too! Not quite what Robert said. He said the first partial week of 200 was his, and his allotment of the second week was 250. That doesn't imply that is all they are making.

Oh... it's a free call and they will be open Monday morning. I've had several PM's from those who said they will call. The more the better.

All Doug is presenting is the information that Robert gave to us ofter his conference call with Directv.

I know a lot of guesses and other information has been thrown around, but I personally would believe Robert (the owner of Value Electronics) over any sales or corporate drone at Good Guys. Robert has far more to lose, both reputation and business, than any large retailer.

I know we will never get the information, but it would be really interesting to see the breakdown on receiver subs to Directv based on where they are purchased. If I had to make a guess, Internet retailers probably account for more than the the brick and mortar stores. Most people who are savvy enough to want to shop around for the best quality, probably know how to find the best deals, and they are not at a B&M.

Just my two cents.

Dave

joegolf - I don;t think that even if 1000 people called Good Guys on Monday it would change anything. I'm sure they get that many and more calls everyday.

Good question. Doug sounds as if that is the total weeks production for the entire factory, I guess. Not very productive factory it seems. 40 units a day????? Five units per hour? All they are doing is assembly there. But, what do I know? Doug has the inside poop.

It's a partial week's production that makes it out in the 3/31 shipment in order to meet 1Q2004 statements. It's also the first week's production so it's not as productive as it will be.

If you have the money to spend you might as well use it. People look at me as if I'm crazy when I say I spent $900 on the HD-Tivo. Some people like cars, some electronics. Whatever turns you on. I'd rather buy another HDTV than do anything with a car. I'll spend over $12K the next couple years on electronics, but will still be driving my 7 year old car. I have no desire to get a new one until it dies on me.

joegolf68

I think you need to read the entire list and study your remarks. Th first week is partial run... 200 units allocated to VE:o From that point on the full weeks production is 1000 units The second week VE gets 250. Then afterwards a substantial amount (no Number) until all preorders are filled.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Have you ever worked in manufacturing? I have! We rolled 500 cars two shifts a day out of the assembly plant that is 1000 cars per day 56 cars per hour. I was a supervisor in the paint department and we had to move 60 -62 cars per hour to get the 56 of the end of the line each day. The buffers between assembly departments needed to be kept full.

The same car was built in Mexico and 12 cars per hour were built. The economics allowed a lower production volume but smaller plant and lower labor costs. A lot of parts and logistics must be carefully orchestrated to make an end product come out with any kind of quality control.

I'm sure the same is true in electronics.

Just sit back, relax , and when your HD TiVo unit arrives you can make it record all the reruns of shows you missed while stiring up things on this list.:D

Well had an interesting day with E-Bay today.

After having one of our HD Rcvrs up for bid to make room for the -250 next month, E-Bay decided to pull my auction after six days due to my willingness to provide the original HU card that came with it new.

I had less than a day left and the bids were starting to jump so I was "less" than happy.

I re-listed it with a revised description and a 3 day auction and went to "fume" with my wife over E-Bay (I know, NO HU cards!) Guess I could have just listed the P4 it was currently using.

Came back an hour later to check on it and it was gone again. Ahhh! but wait, what? it Sold in an hour!?!

Payment here already and a good chunk of the -250 covered even though I wasn't originally planning on selling this one anyway. Woo Hoo!

I know many others have/will be selling replaced units but I had to share after my frustration earlier today.

The highest number anyone with a likelihood of actual knowledge of the production line has mentioned is 800 per week.

Hi I found out the HDtivo on the AVS forum
I have 2 HDtivo's on order,

The first one I ordered on the phone
January 19th at 1:00 pm so I know by
reading this thread Im probably in
the 250 range.

The second one I ordered Online a couple of
weeks ago and I got an e-mail saying

Time of Order: 3/10/2004 5:48:10 AM
Order Type: Email
Order ID: 13798

If someone could please help me Guess
about what number range my second
pre-order would be. I hope shipment
will be in the 3rd or 4th week

Thanks in Advance.

Posted by: JohnA

TivoAholic- Your first order is about the 350 range not 250. I ordered a half hour before you.

I'm estimating that I'm around 800. I'd guess that you are about 400 after that.

See my post 3086 (sorry I couldn't post a link - must be due to my total post count)

Posted by: slocko

thxs. that is something like i was looking for. i like it because you just scroll down for the whole week, instead of being forced to choose day by day

Does any one else think Robert should ship 203 the first week instead of 200? :)

I'll just keep ebaying stuff while I wait for the lucky first group to get theirs delivered and get to the next group, probably have enough to pay the whole thing by the 15th. So far sold 2 UltimateTV boxes, a PDA, a sony DTV receiver and now an older laptop.

Posted by: StephenT

I've never sold a DirecTV receiver before, but I'll be selling my current HD receiver after I get my TiVo. I saw a couple posts on this, but I still don't understand. Do you sell it with the card it has or not? What is DirecTV's position on this? Are buyers supposed to buy it without the card and call DirecTV to have one mailed to them? Then what does the seller do with the card he kept? Cut it up and throw it away? What's the advantage of selling it with the card in it? Why would that bring more money?

Thats the reason I ordered a second one,
Ive sold 2 UTV's, 1 regular Directv receivers, some old P4 cards,
The $99 Directv HD, TWO tickets to an upcoming Yankees/Red sox game
(that was a Tough one!!)
and a whole bunch of assorted things (aka crap).

So I can honestly tell my wife when she sees
the second one arrive I only had to Pay for 1 Hdtivo :)

Posted by: slocko

i sold one utv, one dtv1080, and one sammy360. more than covered my cost. for some reason the 2 year old dtv1080 sold for more than the brand new sammy360. i imagine it must be due to ease of hacking.

and once it arrives, i can sell the second utv.

Posted by: slocko

i sold all of mine with their p4 cards. had no problems on ebay.

Directv will force the new owner to get a new access card, old cards subed by previous subscribers are not transferable. Do what I did sell the card seperatly on ebay for $40. There is a desire for these, and you can sell them with no problems (only the blue ones with #4 on them, The ones with the football player you cannot sell Ebay wont allow it, they are preffered by hackers) I dont question why they are desireable, I just question how they will pay :)

Having just experienced this I will answer "most" of your question(s).

You CAN sell an access card with your receiver as long as it is a "current" generation card (i.e. P-4). This is not in violation of any E-Bay selling policy.

Older generation cards are not "technically" allowed to be sold but many are due to E-bays method of enforcement (see their policy page).

If a card does not come with the receiver, the buyer would have to supply their own through one they already have, acquire elsewhere, or by purchasing a new one from D* (Or talk them out of one). Any way you look at it there are options.

We cannot go into why older cards have higher value in this forum but including various cards can increase the value of your item for convenience and cost as well as other reasons.

If you are selling your receiver with its current gen card that it is using now. No problems at all...

And as for what you do with the card if you keep it? Store it, keep it as a coaster, put in the spokes of your kids bike, all sorts of things, again some we do not discuss here...

I honestly doubt that even if Good Guys manages to get a shipment before Robert that they will be available in the store. There are plenty of pre-orders everywhere that it will be a while before you can walk into a store and find one on the shelf.

Not really. If Robert can only get 200 units the first week of production, with around 800 per-orders, then GG will not be getting that many either. I know someone stated that GG will get 1000 the first week. But that's very doubtful considering it was a partial week of production.

Time will tell. :)

When I called DirecTV to deactivate my receiver, I asked what I should do with the access card. They said the card will be of no use to the person who buys the receiver. They will have to get a new one. I gave an old DirecTV receiver to a friend when I got my first TiVo. He activated it using the old card, but the CSR transferred my account into his name with his packages and everything. It was a mess. Luckily it was a friend and we were able to get it worked out. Avoid potential issues and keep your access card.

Posted by: hongcho

Yup, I sold mine with the P4 card. The CSR told the buyer to throw the card away.

Hong.

good advice -- the cards have all the DTV info and they probably keep the original owner's info with each card # even if it's deactivated, transferred or sold.

Posted by: dcushing

When my HD TiVo gets here, I am giving my Samsung TS160 to my father. I have called Directv and they have already told me that I will need a new card. I have 3 or 4 old P4 cards just lying around my house, a couple of HU cards also.

Dave

Posted by: Kamakzie

I sold all my DISH Network stuff, my 721 for $325 and my 301's for $47 a piece so not too bad..

Posted by: bpdp379

When I bought my Sammy 61" DLP from Magnolia last year, they were on back order. The sales guy said to me, we have 20 on order, arriving 1st week of Oct... I am #5 on the wait list.

Cool, I say. Pay for my TV and wait. When Oct gets around, I call and the manager says our order is 5 sets of 4 arriving each week!

It all worked out and I got my set that day, ;) but this seems to be how the B&M's get you to order.

Show you the big order with an arrival date that can only be met with a couple of units.

Posted by: dcushing

Pre-Orders are always iffy to begin with. Once production starts in earnest and everyone is getting regular shipments than this whole thread will seem silly to all of us who have obsessed over it since January.

Joe just had some steam to blow off. I wouldn't put much value in the information he was given. Consider the source of it.

But time will tell. Fortunately very soon.

Debit Card? "Most" Debit Cards have a $500 a day limit. Even when using them as a credit card, ie VISA. If Robert or whomever tries to charge the $800, it may be declined. You may want to check this out. That way you can let him know to charge $400 for 2 days.

My debit cards with Great Western Bank, First Union/Wachovia and with Commerce Bank each had a $500 daily ATM withdrawal limit and a $1,000 daily purchase limit. I'm sure it varies by institution, and even by account type, but it seems common to me that by default limit for use like a credit card is more than the default limit for use as an ATM card.

I've had luck in the past calling my bank (Wells Fargo) and letting them know in advance the date, amount, and payee of a charge greater than my $500 limit. It might be worth a phone call to your debit card issuer.

You are correct. It varies by institution and account type. I would just suggest that anyone using a debit card check with their institution before it becomes an issue. My limit is $500 for purchases and withdrawals. Not a problem for me since I don't use my debit card except at Sam's Club. And if the wife comes up with over $500 worth of stuff to purchase at Sam's, we are going to need a new freezer and a bigger pantry.:D

Absolutely Doug - most debit cards have an 800# on the back of the card to contact a bank rep and you can call ahead to find out what the limits are. I just called Bank of America to make certain I wouldn't be caught off guard and they assured me my daily ATM withdrawals are $500 and my Point of Sale purchases are $1500. :D

Good luck getting them to swap it out. Circuit City from my few dealing with exitended warranty is the worst. They will send it for repair and if you are lucky it will only be 2 weeks. Hope I'm wrong.

for all those that got the $99 deal from D* for the HDTV, they are about to expand the markets that qualify for OTA antenna to 32 from 11.

so you might want to start calling and seeing if they can retroactively give you the antenna since now $99 gets you both.

I would imagine that Robert from VE is packing his bags about now for his trip down to Mexico to meet the HD-Tivo DVR's.....hope he is flying on a scheduled air carrier and not on some puddle jumper. Grin.

He will have to cross a weather frontal zone with embedded thunderstorms...but once he gets past the middle part of the country....ol Mexico looks to be "high, wide, and clear" for weather.

You should be able to see a picture of what he is going to encounter at this link....

http://vortex.plymouth.edu/

He can probably just set up under a shade tree....take them boxes one at a time and paste on his shipping address and labels....then load them on a transport truck....and the boxes should stay dry. :)

I was reading many posts back about people going out and buying the HDMI-DVI adapters from Geffen or Monster cable.

According to this first post in the thread:

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...i+cables+hdtivo

"The cables/adapters included in the DirecTV HDTiVo box are: 1. Coax F-type (for satellite), RCA (Yellow/red/white), S-Video, Component (PbPrY), HDMI-DVI adapter, HDMI-HDMI cable, Optical (Dolby Digital), Power."

It already comes with the HDMI-DVI adapter. It seems to come with the HDMI cable as well. So I am to assume that if I have a DVI cable that I am set. Am I not correct in this assumption?

I don't think it's clearly been stated exactly which HDMI-DVI adapter is included. I would guess it is intended to convert the DVI connection on your display device to HDMI such that the included HDMI-HDMI cable can plug into it. So someone who needs a longer cable between the DVR and the display might need a different adapter to continue using their existing DVI cable -- one that converts the HDMI output to a DVI output at the receiver side.

I'd probably fit in that category myself, but am just waiting to see what actually comes with the unit then I'll order what I need if I need anything; I can get by using the included cable until what I need for the correct installation arrives.

Is there a list of the 32 markets anywhere?

I was thinking the HDMI-->DVI supplied with the box was a cable but it might be just a plug which converts the HDMI output into a DVI output which in that case u could use the DVI cable u already have. Although I'm pretty sure it must be a DVI-D cable.

Per a reply mail from Monster, their adapter does what I need.

Allow me to hookup an HDMI-HDMI cable to a DVI Cable.
I placed an order with Amazon, but as usually...
Their "Normally ships in 2-3 days", really means:
We will ship in 2-3 weeks... Their system states it won't ship until April 5, even though I ordered last week.

So that will give me some time to cancel the Amazon order, if the right cables are in the box.

I recently bought an HD-component-video switcher that can be described as being of the MATRIX type: it has 4 inputs and 2 outputs. I use it to select four different sources of component-video and audio signals. Selection is independent for each one of the 2 outputs. I use one output for my RCA F38310 HDTV set and the other output I transcode from component to RGBHV. Then I use another converter that allows the transmission of the RGBHV signal via CAT-5 (network) cable to another room. The manufacturer of this converter claims the capability of extending transmission up to 400 feet, but I am only using a 100-foot length of CAT-5 cable at the present time. On the receiving end of this cable, another converter changes the signals back to standard RGBHV, and that is used with a PC monitor for viewing at that location. The problem is the transmission of the audio, because the RGBHV/CAT-5 converter does not carry audio. For audio I use a 2.4-GHz transmitter-receiver system that uses FM modulation and is adequate for my second viewing location.

Note that I am using the matrix switcher because I have 4 different sources of component-video signals that I need to select! If all you want is to handle the output of the Tivo, and the tivo only has one component-video output, yuou can buy a component-video amplifier that has 2 or more outputs. I am a new member of this forum and not allowed to indicate URLs, but, if you email me, I will be glad to give you the info about the sites where I purchased my gear. Good luck to you!

I think the HDMI->DVI cable, is for direct connection from an HDMI device to a DVI display unit.

Since most DVI cables are M-M , this would not allow a connection between an existing DVI cable.
But we will see when the boxes start arriving this week.

The reason I suspect it won't be the adapter I need is that the adapter I need assumes you have a DVI cable now. The adapter they probably include would be designed to use with the HDMI cable included for people without a DVI cable now. That is, cabling/adapters would be included to connect the HDMI DVR to either a DVI or HDMI monitor. A different adapter would be needed if you have your own DVI-DVI cable and want to connect it to the receiver than the adapter you'd need to use the HDMI-HDMI cable to connect to your DVI monitor.

That's the impression I got as well. This would be the most logical but we'll see.

Looks like we'll just have to wait until people can take pics of their gear next week.

u don't sound very confident u'll be one of the first to receive a unit videoholic... I thought u were in the first shipment group.

I didn't get any forms from Robert. My credit card was charged $100. Does he email these forms? I was real late in getting my order in - 12th of March. My Order ID is 13831. Should I contact him?

Heck no. I actually was going to preorder then, but lollygagged around forever. I may get mine in time for Christmas. :)

I haven't received any forms either. I assumed it was because I won't be getting mine for quite a while.

Posted by: Kamakzie

Sure why not. You might as well make sure rather than being sorry.

If VE will be shipping the first 200 tomorow they probably will be getting them today. Good Guys is also supposed to be getting their 1st shipment today at the Northern California warehouse(supposedly 1000, but I'd be surprised if they get that many). I assume some people have contacted VE about picking up their box at the shipping point so the first HDtivos may be in our hands by this afternoon!

I ordered that weekend also, and haven't gotten anything except the auto-response from the website. I'd not worry and I'd not contact him. We (that ordered then) aren't expecting shipment until late April. I'd not expect forms until mid-April, when primary shipments 1,2, and 3 (?) are done. He promised all orders before 3/18 would be shipped 'before/by the first week of May' and I've seen nothing to really doubt that.

Of course, we won't really know how the factory ramp-up goes until we see the screams (positive or negative! :) ) from all the January orderers here....

Robert's shipping them on 3/31; the impression I get is he's taking delivery of them on 3/31 too. ;)

I predict a fevered frenzy on 3/31, followed by a somber quiet from the lucky 200 on 4/1 as we all scream for information.
