Wishlists recording and then disappearing

Ran into a curiosity with a TiVo I got for my wife's parents.

I bought a 40 hour series2 just before thanksgiving. I dropped a 120gig hard drive in with a viable image. Then I test recorded a few Season Passes , found it to work so boxed it up and took it to the parents.

We set up a few Season Passes and Wishlists and let the TiVo do it's thing. The next day when we went to look at what was recorded "Now Playing" had recorded a few programs.

Now here's the curious part...

We could watch the Season Passes and TiVo Suggestions but when we tried to watch the Wishlist shows they wouldn't play! Pressing Play brought up an immediate "Do you want to delete this recording?" This was followed by an error screen which said there hadn't been any signal on the channel and it couldn't record it.

We proved this to be bull-sh*t by watching it record the next Wishlist movie. While it was recording we could zip through all parts of the recorded portion either in Live TV or Now Playing. But as soon as the recording completed it was suddenly "No Signal No Watchee."

I brought the unit back home and put the original harddrive back in and it has the same problem. Except now it affects some of the TiVo Suggestions but not all of them. Roughly half are viewable and the other half get the no signal error. It doesn't seem to be channel or cable box/no cable box dependent.

When I called and talked to tech support they basically said "Never seen that one before, don't care to check it out, it'll be $149 to send you a new unit since you voided the warrantee, and we're going to reuse the parts from yours when we get them back."

So..... has anyone else ever seen this kind of problem? If so, I probably got your motherboard in my unit and now they are going to put in someone elses when I send it back.
