OK - I am NOT experienced with computers and whole hacking thing (however I did upgrade my Series 2 TIVO this summer to 225 hours or so) - and I got the GSOD yesterday. I let the TIVO unit try to fix itself for that last 20 hours, but it still reboots with the grey "powering up" screen every couple of minutes. My main questions are; 1) Should I take TIVO up on the offer to send me a new 80 hour unit for $149 in exchange for this one, or do I have other options - like install a new drive in this one? 2) If my better option is to exchange the unit, should I keep the slave drive that I installed this summer- I really am going to miss all of that space that I had for the last 6 months! - or should I get another upgrade kit whenI want more room??

Help if you can please.

Thanks,

John

It sounds like you need to read the third post of the Fixes thread. That procedure will rescue your recordings, but it is very fiddly. It sounds like you didn't make an MFS Tools backup when you upgraded, so make one once the GSOD has cleared as it's likely that one of your drives is failing. See Hinsdale for instructions on that (much less painful than my rescue maneuver).

You'll be a lot more experienced with computers when you've got out of this...
