80 Hour HDVR2 with 35 Hour Image

Can an 80 hour HDVR2 be repaired by using the 35 hour HDVR2 image? I know someone who's got a dead 80 hour system, and I have an image from my 35 hour HDVR2. Can I just blow my image onto a new drive for him and it'll be good to go?
I would think that the only difference between the two systems is drive size, and a 35 hour system can easily be upgraded to 80+ hours. Therefore I would expect the 35 hour image would be compatible with the 80, but not necessarily the other way around.
Thanks!

If the model of the unit is a HDVR2 for sure, then yes you can because that model was manufactured at 35 the drive that is being replaced is obviously an upgraded drive. It will be necessary to run "clear & delete Everything" on the fixed unit after put back in operation to reset encryption system otherwise unit won't record.

Just so you know, no HDVR2 came from the factory with 80 hours. There are two other models that did - those images may cause problems long-term. Make sure the first three digits of the TiVo Service Number are the same on your box and this one before proceeding.

OK, thanks. The guy told me that it was a stock 80 hour HDVR2, but I haven't personally looked at it yet...
