i have sucessfully upgraded my RCA DVR-40 to 212 Hours with two western digital 120GB HDs, but during the upgrade process i was trying to make a backup of the original drive and was following the instructions posted here tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/step4.php

mount /dev/hdb /mnt

mfsbackup -f 9999 -9so /mnt/backup.bak /dev/hda

after it does something for a minute or so it then returns an error stating that i must specify file system type

what do i need to do

thanks

So you've got a TiVo drive as primary master and a disk with a FAT partition on it as primary slave?

You're mounting hdb, which is the whole disk. You need to mount the FAT partition. This will probably be hdb1, but hdb5 is possible (eg, you used Partition Magic to prepare the disk). Do ls /mnt (that's LS) to check that the files in the partition match what you expect to see there.
