Bug on Quick Edit? It unsubscribes from thread

David -

I'm not sure if it's my browser, but there appears to be a bug in Quick Edit that unsubscribes me from threads when I use it.

My profile is set to automatically subscribe me to threads I reply to.

I was reading a thread I wasn't subscribed to, and used the Post Quick Reply field at the bottom of a thread to post my reply. This subscribed me to the thread. I then noticed a typo, and used Quick Edit. After saving the changes, I was unsubscribed from the thread and had to manually click "Subscribe".

If anyone else can duplicate this, I'll know it wasn't me or my browser. (I'm using Mozilla 1.6 on Windows XP.)

I really do like the Quick Edit, so I hope this can be corrected!

Thanks.

Hummm..Pondering. I will need to see what is up with that. I did do a test and I see the same.

Test 1
Test 2
Test 3
Test 4
Test 5 - With Subscribe box

I was *wondering* why I wasn't getting the regular emails on some threads I'd participated in... and sure enough, this explains it. Interesting bug; hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

Well at least I added a work around with the check box. :)

David - I love the solution with the Subscribe checkbox. Everyone gets what they want! Thanks!

Not every one. I am looking for a way to check to see if you are already subscribed to the thread or not and it will auto check the box or not.

Another problem with QuickEdit. When I am done editing, I hit tab. That takes me to the submit reply button instead of the save changes button.

Maybe check and if the reply field is empty and the QE field is not, let submit reply equate to save changes.

It took me a few minutes and some help to figure out why I kept getting subscribed to some threads (but not all). The 'susbcribe to thread' checkbox under the quick Reply field is unchecked (matching my options setting), but the checkbox in the Quick Edit field is checked by default. I have my browser override web page colors and as a side effect of that it was especially hard to notice the extra field there on the Quick Edit form.

Anyway, it would be nice to eventually not have to uncheck that each time. :)

Quick Edit is nice though!

ThreeSoFar....Sorry...it is a Java Popup window and as such it does not work the same that I know of.

Yes, still working on a fix for the auto checking of the subscribe box based on if you are already subscribed to the thread or not. If not, no check, if you are, it will be checked. (At least that is the hope.)

Ok, the QuickEdit feature now checks to see if you have subscribed to the thread already or not. If you have, it will auto check the subscribe to thread box, if you have not, it will not check the box. This then offers a way to subscribe or un-subscribe when you QuickEdit.

Excellent! Thanks David! Looks good.

Cool fix, and thanks!

Note that if you use QuickEdit and "just" subscribe or unsubscribe (ie: make no changes to your post) it will still add a "last edited" footnote to your post.

So if that's your intention, it might be wiser to use the subscribe/unsubscribe links at the bottom of the page.
