I have been attempting to connect to my Tivo Series 2. I hacked the box and was able to make the modifications to the rc.sysinit file on the 4th and 7th partitiion. Everything works fine, except when I restart the Tivo, I am unable to connect, even though I can ping the box. I did notice after making the changes that starting the Tivo remove the changes from rc.sysinit on the 4th partion, but leaves the 7th partition untouched. Has anyone run into this problem? Did I miss another file somewhere else that should be modified? Thanks for any help getting this hack to work.

I have the same problem. I followed all the steps found at Steve Jenkin's website.

I can ping my Tivo but I can't access it via Telnet. Any help is good help!!

It could be something on your network blocking you. Can you have MAC address filtering or an encripted password blocking you?

Because they can ping the box, this rules out any WEP or MAC filtering issues.

Did you acutally add the line to start the telnet damen in your sysinit file? I don't think the guide goes that far to tell you that.

It's my understanding that the Series2 does some sort of check when it boots and will delete/revert the OS back to it's original configuration wiping out any changes you've made to it to gain telnet/ftp access.

There are a couple hacks around it, search the underground for monty. You can also solder in a new PROM, but that sounds pretty hard unless you know electronics.
