My big fat obnoxious fiance 1/19

I love it! This show had me rolling and I can't wait to see the people playing Steve's family. I'm definitely looking forward to this in the upcoming weeks. Steve is awesome!
Posted by: Todd
It was pretty bad. However, I'm wondering if this is going to end up being a big wreck you can't look away from??
Posted by: bdowell
I was telling my family, they could have done this with just a regular guy that was told he could get the money that she was offered if he was successful in breaking up the fake marriage. I was laughing like crazy at different parts, but I'd like to know what the real payoff is for "Steve."
Total trash, but darn funny.

I really, really wanted to hate it. But I found myself laughing quite a bit, and I think that "Steve" is hysterical. I will stick with it for awhile and give it a chance.

I liked it and I watch very few reality shows and like them. I will keep my SP for it.

The wife and I both loved it! 2, er... 6 thumbs up! Loved Steve! This should get more and more interesting!
Posted by: Sinuralan
I'll probably watch it again, in a can't-take-my-eyes-off-the-trainwreck sort of way. I don't really like that they're going out of their way to cruel to her though.
I also still think it'd be more entertaining if the guy was good looking, and maybe even somewhat successful, but otherwise totally obnoxious. i.e. a horrible personality. but then I just don't see how anyone, her friends or family can believe it. oh well.

Did the original canadian greek chick from windsor have a hand in this show?
Posted by: DancnDude
I found myself drawn to the show. It was really funny, but seemed kinda mean at the same time. They found the right woman though because I'd imagine a lot of women would just say no after spending a couple days with "Steve".

(Threadjack alert, avoid the Threadjack!)
That's similiar to my main beef with The Mole. I enjoyed the first two seasons, but something was always just a little off with the premise. If the Mole gets paid a set sum of money regardless of the outcome and can't get voted out, what is the point of risk-taking to ruin a money challenge?
If they changed it so the Mole was only paid the money that wasn't won by the players, it would be a 100% better show in my book.
Oh, and Steve is going to be a blast to watch. Excellent actor choice so far.
Posted by: Sinuralan
The Mole personally getting all the money he caused the group to miss would definitely be good. But the obnoxious fiance getting a payoff for breaking up the fake marriage would be no good. It's just too easy. :) He's really gotta try to push as much to the limits without breaking them (past the point of recovery anyway).

Last night's episode was hilarious. It was much funnier than I anticipated. I'm looking forward to future episodes.
Posted by: pyrite504
I was totally forced into watching it, and I ended up really liking it. I like watching people that would do ANYTHING for money and fame (which is what I believe reality show contestants are) suffer.
Steve is incredible. I can't wait to see what he pulls in future episodes.

LOVED IT!!!
Laughing out loud numerous times!
Great TV!

I am really looking forward to seeing what more they dream up for Steve to do to make Randi feel uncomfortable. Like the breakfast scene in which Steve is found stuffing his face and washing it down with a mimosa, while he explains his old man is an alcoholic.
Here are a few ideas... (free of charge):
*Have Randi come in to find he is using her bathroom, b/c he clogged the toilet in his.
*Randi discovers pictures of Steve dressed in some of her clothes
*Randi is forced to find a friend for a double date with Steve and friend (another outrageous character)

I was listening to the local radio station this morning and the morning radio hosts were singing the praises of the latest American Idol and then they said this show was some of the worst crap on TV and that no one should watch. They thought it was terrible and thought it should have been a 1-night special, if on TV at all.
I had it on in the background, mainly because there was nothing else on, but it wasn't that terrible of a show. I guess I am just surprised at the difference between their thoughts and the posts in this forum
Posted by: TiVoKate
I also thought this show would just be awful.... just b/c there are so many reality shows these days - how could this one possibly be any good?
Well, it was. Steve had us dying - I couldn't believe the stuff he was doing, and the LOOKS he was getting from Randi. Love it. Season Pass. Thumbs up.
Posted by: markp99
Wow, you guys liked this show? I hated it. I didn't laugh even once.
Steve was just trying too hard to play the goofball. Very un-natural and painful to watch. Surely, editing was probably a contributor...they tried to stack up all of Steve's antics to fill the hour. He's not funny. Randi is cute, however... :)
Funny, they showed the *entire* series at the very beginning of the program...in about a ~minute of clips...from beginning to end...even showed scenes from the wedding... That's probably all the material they have/need :) The rest will be commercials and replays...
I won't watch any more of this one...

Hey, people now know what to expect when they sign up to do a "reality" TV show. Hey, she could of walked away at any time. But the power of the mighty dollar is strong (the original UMF :D).
I loved this show. From the show synopsis in the beginning I'm looking forward to when Randi thinks she has tamed Steve before the family shows up, and he turns it up a notch.

I tell ya.. Randi has got to be massively missing a few brain cells to think this guy was for real. He did SO MANY things over the top.
$250,000 is all she gets (and her family and Steve and his family?) I'm guessing she'll get more in the end but isn't that pretty cheapo for these shows?

Uh, she's supposed to get $500,000 for herself and $500,000 for her family *if she can pull off the wedding*
That's not bad scratch for embarrasing yourself on TV.
Of course, she seems to be under the impression that Steve is playing by the same rules she is, and he *isn't*. Thats why she's thinking that for as bad as he is, he won't screw up the wedding because he wants the money as badly as she does.
So, does she think he's for real? Probably. If you thought the other person you were being partnered with was getting $500,000 for going along with the same scheme you are, wouldn't you believe it?

I thought she was told that she would get $250K for her and $250K for her family and Steve was offered the same deal. It would add up to a million total. Of course, since Steve really isn't playing the game then I would assume she would get Steve's winnings also if she succeeds, but she doesn't know that

That's correct, but like you said, I wouldn't be suprised if they give her the whole $1 million in the end.

I enjoyed this episode, but I think it's gonna get more outrageous when her friends and family appear on the show. That's when the real fun begins.

Our local Fox news interviewed Randi and Steve after the show. Apparently, Randi is in trouble with the Catholic school she works for. Possibly something about mucking around the with sanctity of marriage and/or lying to her parents.
Posted by: TiVoKate
And maybe for "coveting her neighbor's fiancee" since they probably didn't end up with a guy like "Steve". :) Gotta love those ever-forgiving Catholic schools!!

I have heard that "Steve" will get $1 million if he foils the wedding. But that's just something I heard somewhere, so take it with a grain of salt.
My problem with this show's been mentioned already, sort of. I don't like it when reality shows drag in a person's family, who really didn't sign up for the whole experience, and then play a big joke on them. This, to me, is just one giant Punk'd, and really shows why I never liked that show, either. It's one thing to schmo a person who signed up for a reality show experience. It's another thing to hurt their families.
That being said, sadly, I'll probably watch the rest of it in case it redeems itself or something. I really ought to get out more. :)

I kind of doubt that is true (but with Fox, who knows?) only because it would seem too easy to just prevent the wedding from happening. I think the rub here is that Steve needs to act crazy while still maintaining some believability.
If you were to reward the groom for preventing the wedding than there are all kinds of lines he could cross to do it. I *think* Steve is just being paid an acting salary to drive Randi and her family/friends nuts.

Just to be clear...
Fox isn't dragging Randi's family in on this. Randi is. Randi signed up her family to be part of this gag.

I didn't watch it, so help me out here. How did they explain the presence of TV cameras to the family?
I saw the bride and groom to be sitting at a table, and it seemed obvious that they aren't using hidden cameras.
Posted by: lander215
Both the "bride" and "groom" are in on it, but the "groom" knows the actual premise, but not the "bride". The cameras will be explained because they "met" on a reality tv show and their love blossomed, so now the reality tv show is following them to capture their "wedding" plans and eventual "wedding".
Edit to add:
Plus, they haven't been introduced to any family yet. First one to meet the "groom" is a friend of the "brides" next week.

I like how he found ways to disappear with the bottles. We can't even be sure it was real alcohol.
Then again, if it was then all the better Steve has to be. Crafty lies can fall apart after a half dozen or so ;)

Judging from Randi's "interview", the one where he's yelling at the end of the show, I'd say the producers of the show will be carrying some portion of the blame. I expect that they had to do some amount of work to convince her not to walk, at that point.

Horrible, just horrible..
And the worst part was the Friday the 13th music! Swear I thought Jason was around the corner with his machete and hockey mask..

Ok, i somehow lost the concept to the show. Can somebody explain to me how they win the money, and what Steve's mission is compared to Randi's. I didn't know anything about Steve having some secret motive..
I didn't watch that first episode!

This show looked really stupid and mean, but I did watch and found it quite funny. How mad must the family be though after they find out what they have just been put through. And exactly how far do they go with the wedding. They don't actually get married right?
In this first episode they did say they had to go and meet with a real priest and try and convince him that they love each other and are ready for marriage.

Well, I believe she said that, so whether or not he is a real priest remains to be seen.

The man (Steve) is an actor who is pretending to be part of this reality show. The woman (Randi) THINKS that Steve is just a contestant on a reality show like she is. How Randi thinks the game works:
She has to convince her family that she is in love with Steve and that they are getting married in 2 weeks. She also believes that Steve has to convince his family of the same thing so that he can also win the same amount of money. If she can convince them and they all show up at the wedding (and nobody objects during the ceremony) then she will win $250,000 and her family will win another $250,000. She has to pretend that they met on a reality show and that they're in love.
How it really works:
Little does she know that Steve is just an actor and he is trying to do really embarrasing stuff make it very difficult for her (at this point we don't know if he gets money to break it up or not). She thinks that she can get him to be on his best behaviour when it's "family time", but she doesn't realize that this will never happen.
Stew
PS. I thought I'd hate it, but the wife and I laughed a lot.

It was mildly funny, but I have a hard time buying that Randi isn't on to Steve. With all of her eye bugging she just seemed to be playing for the cameras and never once really laying into Steve with a "Hey! We're trying to win some money! SETTLE DOWN for a second." And all her "maybe he is starting to fall for me..." Whatever.
Randi is cute, Steve is obnoxious: I'm with ya so far, but it just seems to pat for me to think *we're* the ones being punk'd and this reality show is mostly scripted - all the way to the end.
I would imagine that unless the guy tells Randi's folks that he is an ex con out for murdering his last wife, and that he plans on posting videos of their honeymoon antics up on the 'net, there is no way the father would stop the wedding *at* the wedding. By that point daddy's done all he can and it's up to his little girl to figure it out.

Randi is doing this for some combination of fame and money. She didn't even know what the show was about until the host told her when she arrived at the mansion. Randi is also a "nice girl" and they do not point out a persons irritating habits or poor manners to them. She probably does believe that he is falling for her since every other guy she has met as done the same unless they were married or otherwise attached.

I'm still wondering what the deal is with the mansion they're living in - namely, what Randi's friends & family will be told about it. That it's just part of the reality show on which they met? That it's Steve's home? (seems unlikely). Will they be told about the separate bedrooms?
I wasn't thinking about it at the time, so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we see some preview scenes from the wedding? Can we assume from that that the family members all decided to attend? Otherwise, why would Randi think that they're bothering to go through with the ceremony if they haven't met the requirements for winning the money? I realize it's possible that it's a deceptive preview, but still, based on what we know so far I have to wonder.

I'm sure it will be just part of the reality show explanation. What do they need to be told about the separate bedrooms? I'm sure when the family comes to visit they will see that they are in separate bedrooms. Nothing too strange about that depending on the how she was brought up.

Great analysis. I agree. She must get everyone to at least agree to come to the wedding. They DID show a clip of her father standing up after the Priest said 'speak now or forever hold your peace', but if I were to bet, I'd say it was just creative editing, and her father was really just standing up to adjust his pants or something.

I agree, not strange, just wondering what they may or may not reveal in order to pull off the deception. But you're most likely right, if they're going to show the family around the house, there's no reason they wouldn't show them the whole thing.

In that same clip, if you noticed, her father was the only one there. The other seats in the front row reserved for family were empty. So, if in order for her to win the money, everyone must attend, then why would they continue with the wedding if her father was the only one there? Obviously, it's some creative editing.
Also, in terms of the house. Her family thinks they met on a reality show and that the show is still going on up until their wedding, so it wouldn't be unusual for them to be staying in a mansion since all the other shows do it. But for all we know, maybe they leave the mansion soon and stay with each others respective families who never even get to see the mansion.

Wow... just watched the first episode. Couldn't make it through the whole thing. This is the worst show I've ever watched. (and I like reality tv).
Horrible, just horrible.

I'm looking forward to them meeting with her friends and family. It should be a good episode tonight. I love this show.
