DirecTivo and DVD-R unit all in one?

The Pioneer DVR-810H and Toshiba SD-H4000 make me drool - a combination DVD burner and a SA Tivo unit all in one.

Do you think they'll get around to releasing a unit like this for DirecTivo?

I very seriously doubt it since this will supply a recording of the origional signal from DirecTV. They do not want to get in trouble with the studios and such. DirecTV has not even delivered HMO yet...

I know it's not as convienent, but I find the connection between my HDVR2 and my $200 Lite-On LVW-5001 DVD recorder to be flawless... I use Save to VCR and it works perfectly.

mgarland,

How is the picture quality on your burned DVDs? Do you use DVD-R or DVD+R?

I wouldn't mind if they had a D-to-A-to-D conversion in between the DirecTV bit and the DVDR bit, if an integrated unit would be the result.

DVD+R. The PQ is slightly degraded, but it's still quite good at the standard burn quality setting (2 hours per DVD).
