The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's

Did anyone see this special? It was truly scary and heart-wrenching at the same time.

Check out the companion website:

A powerful and moving documentary. Provided a lot of information about Alzheimers without being overly maudlin about it. I had a vague, general idea that Alzheimer's was caused by physical changes in the brain but this film brought us up to date with the latest research. One particularly touching quote was, "A person with Alzheimer's doesn't die - he just disappears before your eyes."

Evidently, after decades of study, they have found a way to mark the destructive plaque inside the brain which will enable them to at least see if a proposed treatment is effective. Now they need to find a "magic bullet" that will target and destroy these plaques.

It is just so sad that much of what is to come will be too late for the people we were introduced to in the Documentary. I have to say that this doc scared the you know what out of me. I knew on an intellectual level that this is what Alzheimer's does to one but seeing it's effects has shaken me. I looked at this doc and tried to place myself in the shoes of some of those people and it is really a frightening proposition. To know that it can affect people at a relatively early age is scary as well.

I'm sorry, what was this thread about?

A retired gentleman who I grew up living next to developed this. It was heartbreaking to see him wandering around occasionally. Fortunately, the whole 'hood knew and looked out for him, steering him back to his wife. Once he wandered afar and a full search-and-rescue was called out to the woods and lakes near our houses.

There's a good film with Patrick Stewart which revolves around an ex-spy who fights its effects daily for the safety of America.

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of this? My grandparents all suffer from dementia, and not Alzheimers, but even since I did my senior thesis in high school on Alzheimers, I've been fascinated with the disease and the causes of dementia. I wanted to watch it but I was at a wedding. Anyone who can help or know where I can go?

I THINK I still have a copy on my HD. I only recorded it in Medium quality but it should still look good! Let me know if you would like a copy!

Chris

(I really have to say that it scared the poop out of me!)

I would if it's no trouble. I don't care about quality, I'd just like to have a copy to share with my parents. If it's not going to be on again any time soon, I would appreciate it. PM me if you'd like.

I noticed that PBS already has the DVD/Tape for sell.

SAFE HOUSE, orginally a made-for-Showtime-cable film, currently available on DVD. Very cleverly written, with a superb performance by Patrick Stewart. Put it on your must-see list.:)
