This may be a dumb question, but hey ... there's no dumb questions ... only dumb people, so here I go.

I've got a Sony SVR2000 and I've installed a few software mods to extend the functionality. One of the mods was to enable telnet access. By default, the root account is passwordless ... What I'm wondering is whether adding a password to this account will cause any problems with normal TiVo functionality. I'd like to lock down my TiVo a bit more than it currently is since it's on a network with roommates that may accidentally screw around with things, but I just don't want to impede any normal TiVo functionality.

Do most people password protect their root accounts, or will this cause problems?
