Angel not widescreen?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I live in Virginia and receive WBDC out of... well... DC. Angel is not broadcast widescreen even though the TiVo listing says, like the last two season, it's supposed to be. I've called my local Adelphia cable company, but the customer service rep instantly revealed her ignorance by asking, "Do you have an HDTV? Because widescreen shows are only in HDTV." HUH??? She suggested calling WBDC itself, which I did, got some guy's voicemail (I have no idea what department he was in; they just transferred me to him), and I haven't heard back. Does anyone else experience this problem, and what the heck can be done about it? Call Warner Bros. headquarters? I'll tell ya, even with glorious TiVo, television is starting to get so annoying that I'm just going to watch TV-on-DVD soon.

it must be your local station.
I watch Angel in widescreen here.

Although, it's a bit on the dark side.

You need to write the TheWB and let them know that your local WB Station is not broadcasting the show correctly. Also CC your local WB station with the letter. If you know anyone else in-town that watches the show get them to write in also.

I was just watching an ep from season 3 (or maybe 4) last night, and I noticed that they were zoomed in on the widescreen. It was really odd during some of the dialog, where it only showed half a face. I didn't think enough of it at a time to catch when and what channel that was on.

The reruns of Angel on TNT aren't widescreen, which is annoying because, as you pointed out, there will be the occasional shot of half of someone's face. But those are season three and four episodes and I figure it isn't long until they come out on DVD. These new episodes not being widescreen when they're supposed to be ticks me off. But I wrote the WB today, so we'll see if that does anything.

I get Angel in HD OTA from WBDC, and the DirecTV broadcast of Angel on WBDC is also in "Letterbox." Sounds like an Adelphia problem to me. (What county are you in? I didn't know Adelphia had service here.)

After reading this whole thread, I'm wondering if your cable rep was actually right in what she said; and your cable company just uses the Hi-Def WB signal, and crops it for the NTSC feed.

Last night, I also started wondering if I had been too dismissive of what the cable rep said because HDTV shows ARE broadcast widescreen as she said, and here in my area of Virginia, Adelphia has been saying for months that they're going to switch to high-def. Perhaps this weird fullscreen airing of Angel is part of the transition.

To answer your question, I'm in Spotsylvania.

I have Adelphia just south of you in central Virginia, and we get Angel in widescreen. Weird. My feed calls itself WEB-E.
