which hdd to use as master?

I'm getting a Series 2 DirecTivo (Hughes, I believe) and am planning to upgrade the hard drive. I have a Western Digital 80 GB drive (WD800BB) and a Western Digital 120 GB drive (WD1200BB). Both are 7200 rpm, 2MB cache drives; the only difference is the size. Is there any advantage to having the larger (or smaller) as the master, or does the tivo even treat the master and slave any differently?

No, there's no preference.

If you're restoring an 80 Hour backup the 80Gb drive might be too small to be a lone A drive (you didn't bother to mention what size backup you're using, so I'll assume it's not important). You will need to increase the size of your swap partition for this configuration, which would make even a Maxtor 80Gb drive too small to be a lone A drive. If you go directly to a two-drive configuration (restore with -x to both drives) and thus never go through a single 80Gb drive stage, then this problem wouldn't arise.

The backup shouldn't make any difference, as I'll be making my own once I get the latest software downloaded and set up some of my wishlists and season passes and whatnot, so it'll be made off the stock 40GB drive. I can't imagine I'll ever want to go back to a single drive, but if I do, I'll just plan on keeping the old backup around (and probably the original drive, for that matter, since I don't really need it for anything) just in case I have any problems.

If your original drive is smaller than 80Gb, then the issues I mentioned don't arise.
