24 - has anyone else given up this season?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: RickStrobel

I watched the second season of 24 last year, and really enjoyed it. Didn't see the first season, didn't know about it. This year I started watching the 3rd season. Like many others here I was having trouble staying motivated to watch it. As a result I haven't seen an episode since the one where Jack and Salizar are flying away in the helicopter from the prison yard and Tony is trying to tell them that they found Kyle Singer.

I still have all the episodes on my TiVo should I want to go back and watch them. But I'm not sure I care anymore.

So, is it worthwhile to go back and watch them. Does it get better? Or, did you throw in the towel too along the way?

Posted by: Talon

I'm enjoying it, but then I don't go over it with a microscope looking for every supposed mistake. I accept it for what it is, mindless entertainment and I enjoy the characters.

Nope.

No one else.

You and you alone.

Keep watching. The first part of the season was dragging a bit, but it has picked up considerably. The last several episodes are reminiscent of the first season for me. Meaning, after an episode is over, I can't stand to wait a week to see what happens next.

Between the time you stopped watching and now, there's been something like 5 huge twists. Whether or not these twists constitute "getting better" is a matter of personal taste, certainly, but I'd suggest watching.

But yeah, the pacing seems to be excruciatingly slow this season.

Rick:

I've seen maybe 2-3 more episodes than you, and I gave up but for a different reason.

I never watched 24 before and my friend, who likes no TV shows, was raving about it. Told me everything that happened in Season 2 and finally got me interested. I picked up with Season 3 and things were going good.

Then I got season 1 on DVD for Christmas. I watched the whole season in something like a week and now I can't stand season 3. The whole waiting weeks at a time to see the next episode is driving me crazy. So, I've stopped watching this season and I plan to just buy it on DVD and watch the whole season all at once. My friend is doing the same thing, we can have a marathon of some kind.

Oh, and I've since bought the second season and am about five episodes in.

Well, I scanned as quickly over this thread as possible to avoid spoilers... but I haven't been able to get started on this season at all. I think I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes... and then the rest have built up on my TiVo for so long I'd probably have to watch those episodes over again.

I don't know why this season is different, but for some reason, I can't get up the motivation to watch it this year. Perhaps once it hits DVD... *shrug*

I always have trouble getting motivated to watch 24, but once I'm there, I enjoy it. Sometimes two or three episodes will pile up, then I'll watch them in a mini-marathon. It's hardly can't miss television, though.

It's just gotten so unbelievable .. I normally read while watching the show ..
Of course, I did come up with a question tonight .. I seem to remember Hector dumping dead bodies in a ditch ... earlier in the season .. What happened with that .. I thought it was related to the virus .. but they never had the virus ... Am I making this up ???

Posted by: Lakertime

In response to drosoph the bodies were given to the Salazars and Jack by the distributors of the virus to let them see its results and to start off the plan for Jack's sting operation to break Ramon out.
I still very much enjoy 24 and I think the slower pace is a good idea. In the other season's they would throw everything out there so quickly they would use up all the good plot ideas in the first half of the season, such as season one losing a lot after Gaines death and season two after the nuclear bomb was detonated. This year I don't see a big gulf between the two halves but instead a building up from the beginning to end. Just my opinion however and I'm sure there are others who would disagree.

I don't think this season is nearly as good as the first two. I think the plot is just way too farfetched, and the whole Palmer thread is just so seperated from the rest of the story that it really seems to me that they just wrote it as a way to give the Palmer charachter something to do. That said, I still enjoy it, if for nothing else, the unbelievability factor.

I've dropped it. I just didn't enjoy watching it anymore. I'm usually forgiving about unbelievable storylines, but it was getting out of hand. I see threads where people seem to love the twists and think I should start watching again, but then I remember that I was starting to dislike it when they were loving it. So I figure it's just outgrown my tastes. :)

I stopped bothering to watch the last 4 episodes... I have watched the first of those since, and I'll get to the others, in order, eventually, but it's no longer a "must-see" in my schedule, like it used to be.

I am waiting for the ending where we are figure out the whole thing is just a very long Energizer bunny commercial

Actually, my thought is it will be Kim's dream when she was 7 years old :)

Hector: "Bauer, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is we know you are working for CTU and we intend to kill you and spread the virus throughout the United States. But I did just save 15% on my car insurance by choosing Geico!"

Ok, I almost got spoiled again - if you guys are going to do spoilers, either spoiler tag them or have someone put SPOILERS in the topic.

I don't like this season quite as well as the other two, but it's still one of my favs.

Posted by: BeanMeScot

I watched the first season but there were so many times I almost stopped watching it that I just did not bother after that.

Where did you see spoilers?

Posted by: Ilovetorecord2

The decision is yours. I did not like the Sopranos or Oz but later tried watching them again and really liked them.

Watch a few more and if you don't like they and have plenty to watch, nix it.

I used to be a 24 fanatic. Really like the Jack character.
Totally gave up on this season and have no regrets.

Posted by: cwoody222

I think each season has been slightly worse than the previous.

The pacing is so slow this year. I used to be glued to my seat...now I can actually walk out of the room for a few minutes during "24" - something I NEVER would have done during the first season.

It seems now every episode is just buildup for the "shocking conclusion" at the end of every episode. That and the "Oh My God, I can't believe they brought HIM/HER back!" moment.

My wife and I enjoyed season 1. We watched season 2 but found that it seemed slow and that they were dragging it out as if they did not have enough plot. I lost interest in it half way through with all the dumb double-dealing in the presidential office. Just too far fetched and totally unbelievable. I wanted to stop watching but I couldn't and it was painfull - like I was about to watch a train wreck about to happen.

Season 3 came along and neither my wife and I bothered. No regrets at all. We think it was a great program with the original "live" timeline idea but they should have left it at one season (A super mini-series)

According to the ratings, with the AI lead-in, people are turning it off within the 1st half hour. So it goes..

This is interesting. I feel exactly the same way as many posters here. I enjoyed Season 1 a lot, season 2 a bit less. Then, after the first 2 or 3 episodes this season, I'm letting them collect on my TiVo and have almost no (see below) interest in it other than learning how to dump them to dvd, which isn't working yet using hte MovieBox DVD by Pinnacle. My two main problems with this show and I think the main reasons I'm not watching are Kim and Sherri. Both are complete and total wastes of space on our planet and ruin the show for me (Sherri last year).

Funny thing is, and I wonder if this is true for anyone else that isn't watchng, I am reading the weekly threads here to try and keep up:) Go figure.

I've been having some similiar thoughts on the show myself and was seriously debating just removing my season pass. There are so many other things to watch and I barely get through them as it is. After reading this thread I think I'm just about there. It is a lot slower than Season 1 and I just find the plot points to be so preposterous that I just can't deal. Sydney's two year amnesia on Alias doesn't phase me a bit, but Kim working for the govt is just too much for me to take ;)
