Mac OS X to TiVo Serial port access

Looking to see if any of the Mac OS X users have gotten a serial cable to connect to a upgraded series 1 DirecTV TiVo.
DirecTV TiVo upgrade software (via PC disk swap load) has been loaded and configured to support BASH on the TiVo.
I'm using a KeySpan 4-port PCI serial card in my Mac (it works on other serial interfaces on my Dual G4 800MHz QuickSilver in Mac OS X 10.3.x).
I made a DB-8 (Din-8) Apple serial to stereo mini plug (pin 1 to TD, pin 2 to GND, pin 3 to RD) cable (hope its right).
I'm trying to get Z-Term to connect to the TiVo serial port via the KeySpan serial port. No luck yet. Have settings in ZTerm set to match BASH config on TiVo.
Thoughts?

Update: The Apple Mac RS-422 Serial cable needs to be male DB8 (8 pin) to mini stereo 1/8 inch headphone jack as follows:
pin 3 (middle row left) to RD (middle),
pin 4 (middle row center) to GND (base), and
pin 5 (middle row right) to TD (tip).
Z-Term when set to 115200 N-8-1 xon/xoff [ON] hardware handshake [OFF] works.
DB8 Male Pinout:
