Sound quality in playback

Live TV is fine. When playing back recorded programming the sound is poor quality and needs to be turned up really high on the tv volume. The sound still isnt really that loud, and the hissing that is heard from being up so loud is distracting. I am using the audio cables that came with the series 2 unit. My television does not have audio out, only RF. Could this be part of the issue?
Thanks
MZ

Can you explain your connections better? What cables are you using between your TV, Tivo and the rest of your system? What's your video source (cable, satellite, over-the-air)? Does this problem happen on all channels, or only one?

I am connected through cox digital cable. RF to Cable box, RF to VCR...My TV only has RF input and is connected from the VCR out by RF. The VCR is always off. RWY (red-white yellow) AV cables between Cable box and TIVO and RWY from TIVO to VCR....
Thanks,
ZZ

I'm not a techie, but I suspect that the VCR may be the problem. Have you tried rewiring WITHOUT the VCR in the loop? Go directly from the input source to the TIVO and then from the TIVO to the TV.
