24 - 2/3 (Spoilers)

OK... This show has me completely lost now. I think I'm going to delete my SP and buy the DVD set this fall and watch it all at once.

Posted by: farleyruskz

I no longer enjoy this show. I think it definitely jumped the shark this season.

I'll probably keep the SP for the remainder of the season, but unless things change dramatically I won't be watching next season.

Posted by: scottjf8

I really enjoy this show, but I do find it odd that the two main bad guys this season are both dead now...

Posted by: dschwab

Don't worry, in keeping with tradition, 24 will have a whole new set of bad guys for the 2nd half of the season.

No, they're not.

You just haven't met them yet!

(My theory is that this is the year when we finally go up against the German Group directly. At least, I hope so...)

Posted by: mp2526

Either it's another plot point irregularity, Nina is just stupid, or she's in on something, but why verify the virus, then let it out of your site. I'm no criminal master mind, but I would think that's Terrorist 101.

c'mon....you say that EVERY year ;)

No, in the past I've hoped--now I believe! :D

Posted by: ADG

Plotline has gone from incredulous to just plain silly.

Posted by: Frank_M

Were this the first season of a new show, we'd all have long since abandoned it. But because it's 24, and because we know (silly though it can be) that in the past it has had the ability to "wow" us with twists and turns... we still watch.

But again, another episode where there were no real surprises.

Anyone else think that part of that is that because we expect to be surprised, its harder and harder for them to do it?

So is Kim once again in a position to protect a child from an abusive parent, or is there more to the story yet to come to light? If that's all there is to it, Chloe's explanation was a bit of a let-down from the dramatic revelation that it definitely was not her kid. I know a lot can happen in a short period of time in this show, but with only 12 hours to go and a major crisis underway at a secure location (CTU), it seems like any confrontation with the authorities regarding this baby could be easily avoided.

Posted by: cheerdude

Good episode - not the greatest, but then again this season has been a bit of a let-down.

I'm expecting that the abusive mother will storm into CTU with the Authorities and demand the return of the child. Kim will do something that she does best, something stupid, and escape CTU with the baby.

Posted by: pmyers

no night vision on the helicopters??? How hard would it be for the heli to follow that H2?

Posted by: dschwab

It sounded to me, during Kim's conversation with Tony, that she could disprove Chloe's claim that the baby was abused, and Kim was thinking that perhaps Chloe kidnapped the child. Didn't Kim say something along the lines that she didn't find any reports of abuse?

yes, she did. I wish I could remember the scene when Chloe's babysitter dropped off the baby. Wasn't there something said or implied that we didn't have all the necessary info to understand?

In any case, it did seem like the babysitter was definitely a regular sitter for Chloe, so it seems as though she's had the baby for a while, regardless of how she got it. IIRC.

Some 24 spoilers that are going around.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Nina releases a computer worm at CTU. Kim smacks Nina. The baby is Chase's. Jack kills Nina. The virus gets released at the St George hotel.

Posted by: hawkamer

I thought it was a pretty good episode, and I throughly amused by one of Tony's lines:

quote:
We'll deal with the baby once we have possession of the virus.

How's that for acting! I don't think I could say that with a straight face!:D

Well, if anybody could do it, it's Tony, who only has two expressions: Blank But Serious, and Wry But Serious.

Is it possible to go for more than 3 or 4 episodes without someone trying to get a presidential pardon?

Posted by: devdogaz

My thoughts on the episode:

I've lost all interest in anything related to the President. If they don't hurry and tie either Wayne Palmer or Alan Miliken to the virus, I am going to be very disappointed.

Does this show believe in segregation? All the black characters are in one story line and all the white and hispanic characters are in another. Someone should alert the NAACP.

Chase is in constant radio contact with CTU during the whole operation, but as soon as Ramon blows up, Jack says, "Chase, give me your cell phone" and calls Tony.

Forget night vision. The helicopter should be able to see the headlights of Amador's vehicle driving away from the ambush. I don't think it would be too difficult for them to track him.

Does anyone believe for a second that the President would even consider pardoning a convicted murderer without his legal team and political advisors spending months researching the case, etc.? And shouldn't Sherry know that as soon as the guy wanted something in return for his testimony, he instantly lost all credibility?

What's with Kim always pulling people aside during emergencies and introducing her own problems to them? Why was it imperative that she explain the whole baby thing to Tony right in the middle of a gunfight in Mexico? Why did Tony even give her the time? Did Kim really say she had gotten confirmation from Child Protective Services that there was no abuse report? At 12:30 in the morning? She doesn't even know who the kid is and yet she is able to find out, in the middle of the night, that there have been no allegations of abuse against the parents?

I sure hope the second half of the season picks up and is more interesting than the first. I am right on the edge of losing interest in this show and I've been a huge fan since day one. I really hope they come up with some credible way to tie all the loose plots together and stop with the ridiculous writing.

I can only think of two times this has happened. But, that may be one time too many.

Posted by: grecorj

I loved the way the go-between guy slipped the real virus into his jacket pocket while his back was to Nina. Nina fell for the oldest trick in the book!

Maybe she meant to fall for the trick, knowing with certainty that Jack is still working for CTU! Or, better yet, she is really working with Amador ...

Posted by: Frank_M

It is true, Kim's new talent this year is introducing tangental minor problems in the middle of a much larger crisis.

Next up on 24 ... While Tony updates President Palmer on the status of the virus, Kim interrupts to say she believes the packages of plain M&M's in the CTU vending maching contain 1 or 2 fewer reds than they have in the past.

Oh, also, the yellow M&M turns out to be the new mole.

Posted by: DougF

Only black and white M&Ms available right now because of some contest. Maybe she'll find the colored ones, win the million bucks and not have to work for CTU anymore. :)

Posted by: ScottE22

I think the baby is the mole. Not to worry, though, the baby will no doubt request a pardon from President Palmer absolving her of any wrongdoing.

Let's just remember who first called the baby a mole in a previous thread :D

Even on the ground forces I thought it was lame they they didn't use goggles. Everything else on the show is realistic why couldn't they use nightvision?

Technically isn't Jack and Nina being involved with Ramone and Hector disproving you? Also with the president and his girlfriend being different races I think they are showing diversity.

Not trying to start something, just pointing out some facts :)

Posted by: devdogaz

First of all, I was making a joke. Second, I was pointing out that all the black characters are relegated to the uninteresting plot revolving around the president and there appear to be no black characters in CTU. You'll notice that I mentioned the hispanic characters along with the white characters.

I wasn't saying the producers are racist. I wasn't trying to promote diversity. I was simply making an observation and a joke.

Maybe... The baby does belong to Chloe, but maybe Chloe is not Chloe. Maybe she is a look-alike. She did screw up the signal at a very crucial point. Maybe she works with Michelle (who I think is bad now) and Nina... Maybe for Amadore?
Maybe the people who employed Amadore have something to do with the President's problem.

Night vision goggles can sometimes be a hinderence. They are typically monocular (screw with your depth perception), make shooting difficult and actually mess with your night vision. I wasn't in special forces, but when I would go on patrols in my Marine days, I would only use my night vision goggles occasionally to make an object out in the dark. I would stop and close one eye and look through the goggles then turn them off and use my other eye until my night vision returned in the goggled eye.

I think you're right - maybe the Salazars have wrested control of the Rambaldi device from Sark and used it to clone an evil Chloe!!

Oh wait - wrong thread - sorry :D

... and props to Mike (mp2526) - I didn't realize you beat me to the punch on that one!! It's just so obvious I can't believe no one else has picked up on it yet.... Clearly the baby is in on it.

Speaking of Ramone, did you see him on West Wing last night? Talk about a cross over. going from drug lord to an ambassador of cabbages!

I'm making an observation. Who cares about what race the characters are.

it wasn't 1 person, it was a team of people who came out of the grassy patches on the side of the road.

and thats another point that during the show i was like, yea right. the place that the H2 HAPPENS to stop is the same place that 4 or 5 other bad guys just HAPPEN to be waiting just in case the deal went bad, cuz you know, they expected all that to happen and culminate at that exact same spot.

You must have missed the part in the show where they said that he had a pre-planned escape route. I had no problem buying that they would have something like that setup.

i guess i did, but either way, that's a stretch. I can believe that if they had an escape plan set up that they keep running until they got to that spot so as to set up the Delta team. But you're out in the boondocks of Mexico, i'm guessing there aren't too many roads there. Somehow, those guys lay undected, no other cars spotted anywhere? I thought the Deltas were checking out the entire area...

eh, either way, you gotta take it all with a grain of salt i guess, too much crap in this show to take it all as possible :)

Hmm, 2 out of 5 already. Remind me not to read any more of your spoilers.

Not really pertaining to this season, but I'll spoiler it, just in case so no one will get miffed at me.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

I heard on the news today that they stopped filming on 24, because they are waiting for Keifer's face to heal as he had to get stitches from a knife incident. So I guess there will be at least another season of 24 (I'm assuming they aren't still filming this season) and Jack will still be around.

Actually they are still filming this season. They probably won't finish until late March or April. (That is the typical schedule for a normal TV production.) Then they will go on hiatus for a few months and if the show is picked up for another season, they will probably begin filming in July or August.

Gotcha, wasn't sure if they were still filming, well this incident may interupt our viewing of the show then.

I think he liked being the ambassador of cabbages.

A little change from his frequent rolls as:

drug lord
drug kingpin
drug trafficker
crime lord
crime kingpin.
