I have a SVR 2000 sony unit, last year I added a 40 Gb hard drive,it worked fine. I removed the second hard drive to use in my computer,I plugged in the tivo unit,it says "powering up,the almost there, then the screen goes blank and it does it again, powering up,almost there, then turns off, restarts, and again and again...whats going on???

those two drives were married. you split them up. it's looking for it's second half. it can't live without it. :p

you need to put it back or take both drives and have them transfer over to 1 drive.

if the drives were married how do I set it back up with one drive???? Thanks for your help.

Well, of course you restore that backup you made before doing the upgrade.

...or you use mfstools to move the files onto one large drive

Takes forever, like 16+ hours

well here the thing. I had a 30 Gb drive that came with it. it was pretty much full of programing,So I followed the instructions on hinsdale how to upgrade, downloaded the file, put a 40 gb in my computer, ran the program, and installed it in the tivo unit. when it powered up it said I had 75 hours recording time. great. well I filled that up,then I stopped using it. a month passed and I needed a hard drive,so I took out the one I had installed in the tivo, and used it in my computer after formatting it. That left the original hard drivr that came in it. Now it wont come on. it just says powering up,alsmost there, then reboots. I dont care if I lose all the programs on there,I was going to erase them anyway. So what do I do now to make it work????
HELP

You've already received the answer in this thread. As walters said, you need to restore the backup you made when you originally added the 40GB drive.

If you skipped making the recommended backup, you're going to have to find the proper image for your TiVo somewhere, which is getting harder and harder to do since TiVo has cracked down on some of the sites hosting them.

Wow, I'm shocked

Like David said, start looking/begging for an image (the only one I have is the backup I made for my HDVR2, which woudn't work even if I wanted to offer it). Good luck.
