Do I need to purchase the Home Media Option for the lights to come on on a wired USB NIC (Linksys USB100TX)? Not working on the box but I know the adapter and the connection are good because I got the network connection on my laptop. The manual I got with the receiver says the USB ports are for future use; doesn't give any information about using them to connect to the network.

I want to make sure the network and hardware works before I shell out for the HMO.

I'd heard you can use a NIC instead of the phone line for the update. I'd like to start using it for that now as I have a CAT-5 jack right next to the TV but I have to snake a phone line halfway around the living room to connect.

Is there any other advantage to having a networked Tivo without the HMO?

Thanks

Dave

I guess DirecTivos aren't networkable yet. Should have read prior posts.

My apologies for cluttering up this forum with a repeat.

But if anyone comes up with a hack, please post.
