Is there any reason why you cant send an image of a standard series 2 40gb disk to a 160gb disk and have it work? (Using Norton Ghost)

Im curious to know if this is doable, it sounds like it should work.

Since Ghost doesn't know how to handle TiVo partitions, it is unlikely to work... Use mfstools v2. See the Hinsdale "How-To" at the top of this section of the forum.

Even if ghost did the copy correctly, it wouldn't be able to resize the partitions, so you'd still need MFStools to do that.

I just need to make a copy of my drive would ghost work for that? Has anyone done this. If I try it would it messup my tivo drive like win 2000 does. or is there no danger?

The recommended way to make an exact copy would be to use the dd command. See the Hinsdale guide for more info.
