NYPD Blue - Goodbye Sipowicz

CNN is reporting that ABC was to announce today that NYPD Blue will be retired next year after it's 12th and final season.

I'll miss it, but it's time. This show was great once, but by turning the squad room into Love Connection, the show got a little predictable. You could almost smell a new relationship when someone new joined the squad.

I'm surprised no one else reported this. Maybe ABC changed their minds and didn't make the announcement???

One of my all time favorite shows with Denis Franz one of my all time favorite actors. Will be sad to see it go but you're right it is time.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that it goes out with a bang.

At least it's not Bocho, if ABC doesn't want to continue maybe another network could pick it up.

It's time???? what are you talking about? NYPD Blue is still the best show (Cop or otherwise) on Television, period. It's the only show that I must watch each week. I can live without every other show. ABC needs to get their head out of their ass. They need to quit trying to sink to the level of the other networks who have decided to air mostly "reality" based shows. It's going to get to the point where there is absolutely NOTHING worth watching. All that will be left are idiotic shows such as Survivor and it's offspring.

I've watched every single episode. While I'm a bit bummed that they're ending the show, I'm HAPPY AS HELL that Bochco has an ENTIRE YEAR to wrap it all up. It seems not many shows get to do that anymore!!

And btw dssdbs, believe it or not there ARE good shows out there. You just have to sift through the crap to find them!

Wow it's hard to believe it's been that long since there was all that controversy when it first came out. I still like it, rarely do the episodes stay on my TiVo for more than a couple of days, and it's one of the few shows I watch live in HD. Sipowicz is probably my all-time favorite TV character.

Programming reminder: New show back on tonight! :)

I like Sipowicz the drunk better. Enough of his relationship with a chick way out of his league. Then again any woman that doesn't charge an hourly rate is out of his league.

I still like the show though. The Shield and Third Watch are better though :)

Unless of course you live in the upstate of SC or western NC and the local ABC is preempting and not showing it until 1:06am tomorrow! :(

I love Sipowitz, in a manly man kinda way though. My wife goes ballistic when I say he's my idol. Love the show. It's one of the few shows I watch every episode.

One of my favorites too. It will be missed.

In today's Philadelphia Inquirer they state that they aren't firmly saying the show will end next year. Sounds like they want to go out on a high note, but if they can milk another year out of it without dragging the show down they will. We'll see.

ABC has renewed NYPD Blue for its 12th - and final - season, the network announced yesterday. No word on which cast members will return, but star Dennis Franz is signed and sealed.

Crafty Blue boss Steven Bochco isn't ordering padlocks for the squadroom yet, however.

"Should we do brilliantly, and circumstances change, we would be delighted to revisit the possibility of life beyond 12 seasons," he said in a statement.

Not that there's anything wrong with 12. "It's better to go out too early rather than overstay our welcome."

I was a regular NYPD Blue watcher up until the point where I felt the stories really did become much too involved with pairing everyone up on the show (much like the plot lines that ER has since slid into). Showing what goes on in their lives outside the precinct was always great, but they made it seem like no one had any friends/relations that weren't related to the life on the squad.

I liked the rhythms and language of the characters of the earlier seasons. Sipowicz paired off yet again with what I felt was an unrealistic relationship was just too much for me, and I quit watching at that point. I would have liked him to stay as a somewhat secondary strong lead than the major character. I still do watch the earlier seasons repeats on TNT, and they do hold up well in their writing and acting.

The Shield definitely is a great cop show that so far is heading on an interesting path!

Bochco is now threatening to pull the show for next season (and make this season the last) if ABC continues to censor it so much as a result of the Boobygate scandal.

Also, I just caught an episode (I'm way backed up in Now Playing) that had THREE guest stars from other Season Passes of mine -- a rare feat because I just don't have that many SPs:

The hotel manager from "24" (also known as "Gay Matt from Melrose")
The state's attorney from "The Wire"
The black nurse from "Scrubs"

Yup: Robin Weigert.

As soon as I heard that voice I couldn't see anyone but Jane.
