Who will die? Simpsons spoilers

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: tomo_kun

Who do you think will die sunday? Im betting its ralph, but then my soon to be gotten air freshener will be useless :(...

Posted by: cello

ooh, i missed the impending death announcement.

I hope it's not Ralph!

It would be funny if they ended the show's run by slowly killing off every character...

Posted by: TeeSee

I missed it too.

I can't see them killing Ralphie. He's too cute. Maybe Otto or one of the less liked characters. But definately not Moe. Because he WANTS to die.

Posted by: trainman

I think this is another case of a network's promo department exaggerating slightly, since the plot of next week's episode is...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Milhouse moves to Capital City, changes his image, and becomes popular.

...although I guess it's possible someone could die. Especially now that we know Dr. Marvin Monroe isn't really dead; I guess they need to kill someone else off to return the "Simpsons" universe to balance.

Killing Ralph would be a huge mistake. He is one of the popular favorites. I am hoping for the purple haired twins death. Goodbye sherri and ugly sister!

That would be Terri.

Ralph must not die. If it's anyone, it needs to be a low tier character... Maybe Wendel.. He always looks like he's a half step from death anyway. :)

Marvin Monroe never really died (on screen). It was only a throw away line on a Simpson's clip show.

It was good to see him back.

Posted by: DancnDude

Maybe Patty or Selma?

It can't be Ralph because he has the best one-liners!

Posted by: drew2k

Not sure that anyone's going to die, but someone IS going if you believe the preview from last Sunday's show, which went something like this:

"Which beloved Simpson's character will say goodbye to Springfield forever? Will it be Bart? Maggie? Or some third-tier ancillary character?"

On the final question, Ralph was shown.

That was great. I think he said something like "I was reallllly sick for awhile" and they moved one with the scene.

Perhaps the most amusing thing would be to kill him off. Again.

I somehow missed something. Where was Dr. Marvin Monroe? We're talking about Sunday's episode, that was the anthology one with Homer the VIIIth and all, right?

Was the clip show you're referring to the 138th Episode Spectacular? They referred to it in there, but for the life of me I could never figure out where he had died.

On the episode before that one (Marge was a Novelist), he was at one of Marge's book signings.

Actually, it was referenced WAY before that. There are a few sight gags in earlier episodes where Springfield General Hospital is named "Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital". :)

And I hope it is Milhouse that they "kill off". His only purpose these days is being the butt of jokes. *sigh* I almost miss the days when his parents were fighting.

Can you say "Kenny"?

That would be ironic, especially having seen the South Park episode, "Simpsons Already Did It".

More stuff on Dr. Marvin Monroe:

-- from the 'Dearly Departed' file at SNPP (guess it needs to be updated now...)
quote:
Dr. Marvin Monroe
passed away sometime in 1995 (during season 6)
This was first alluded to in The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular, when it was mentioned that the hospital was named in memorial to him. One of Dr. Monroe's biggest parts on the show was in [7G04] "There's No Disgrace Like Home", where OFF visits his office and participate in therapy. In [BABF10] "Alone Again, Natura-Diddley" we see his tombstone, replete with carved psychiatrists' couch, thereby finally verifying his death.

-- I can't seem to find the reference, but it is believed that Dr. Monroe was 'killed off' because Harry Shearer was getting laryngitis after sessions where Dr. Monroe's voice was recorded.

Oh, and one more thing: the promo says "...will say goodbye to Springfield forever"...which may just mean that a character is moving away. :)

Argh! Somehow I missed that preview!

I remember seeing an ad back at this season's beginning (it may have been in context with a fan website's interview with one of the writers or producers) that they were considering killing a character this season. As of July 2003 (when the story was dated), this had not been firmly decided. The picture showed 3 characters:

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Seymore Skinner, Grampa Simpson, and Moe. None of the kids were shown.

Based on the wording of that quote, I don't think anyone is dying. Although it is fun to speculate. :D

Anyone at Springfield Retirement Castle could go at any time, as they all have one foot in the grave.
Patty and Selma have never been my favorites, they can go for all I care.
Agnes Skinner could go and not be missed, except by CBG.

Ack no! He's become one of my favorites recently.

It's also that Matt Groenig and other various producers hated the voice. They didn't like "gravelly" voices - at least so they say on the DVD commentaries.

Nobody will die, and I doubt that anyone is really leaving for good. Like drew2k pointed out, the comment was "say goodbye to Springfield forever". That doesn't even mean that the character is leaving Springfield forever--they could just say "Goodbye, Springfield, Forever!"

And come back in the 3rd act. :)

No one died. I was really bummed. Plus it was a crummy episode.

So what did happen? I don't plan on taking the time to watch it--too much going on this week.

I disagree. I thought it was a pretty good one -- the bits in the TV museum were funny; I liked the whole Homer subplot, and appreciated the warmth of the Lisa and Bart plot. Plus the two plotlines actually intersected once or twice, which the writers don't often bother trying to do. I'm satisfied.

Milhouse's mom got a job in Capital City, so Milhouse moved to Capital City with his mom. Lisa + Bart ended up spending more time together since Bart no longer had a best friend, and they ended up being best friends.....until Milhouse moved back. His father got a court order giving him custody, so his mom is the one who leaves Springfield. Bart + Milhouse end up being best friends again, which hurts Lisa's feelings. Eventually Bart and Lisa make up.

So basically nothing happened. I didn't find any of the episode particularly funny or clever. The sub-plot was all right, although I liked it better in Sherlock Holmes.

missed this cause of cold case. I hate only haveing one DTivo when I am used to two

Posted by: cwoody222

Did last week's commercials really say someone would DIE? or just "leave"?

If they said "die" they just lied...

Posted by: Frylock

It never said die. People just assumed it.

And I agree that it was a weak episode.

Posted by: Big_Daddy

Sorry to dissent, but I liked it. There were some genuinely funny moments and the "syrupy" ending was good. Some of the best Simpsons ended with the family putting aside their differences and expressing their love for each other.

This season started off very rocky, but the last few episodes have been pretty good. Not Simpsons at their best, but good.

Posted by: Skittles

Put me in the "liked it" category, as well. There was quite a bit of memorable dialogue for me, and the Homer sidestory was enjoyable.

"I don't like you, boymommy!"

Posted by: whitson77

I liked it as well. One of the better episodes in a long time. The forklift crashing into Carl was excellent!
