WHY WOULD WINDOWS NT RUNNING FAT32 FILE SYSTEM RUIN THE TIVO DRIVE
Posted by: iguru42
Because of the lack of information I'm gonna guess that you put your Tivo drive in your XP system and let XP boot? If you did that, that was not a good idea. I can't say I know the specifics but I do know that the Tivo drive is an alien format to XP. And when XP boots it will try to index the new drive on the system. Which is why they say to never let XP boot while your Tivo drive is connected to the system.

It makes no differnce if your XP/2000/NT drive is NTFS or FAT32. Once the operating system boots it writes a signature to each HD attached. That signature is what causes your issues.

It over-writes the boot block, breaking something important.
You can rebuild the boot block with MakeTiVoBootable or by restoring an MFS Tools backup.
