The OC (2/11)

Great episode. My favorite line was Seth's (of course) "Gritty life? You live in Newport Beach."

Glad to see the Oliver plot finally wrap up. That was getting a bit annoying (we get it, he's crazy, but nobody sees it except Ryan). When Ryan told Oliver that it had only just begun in the library, I got worried that that plot would drag on for more episodes.

Now that Seth and Anna are split, will Anna remain part of the central cast? At least Luke is currently preoccupied with Julie - that will delay the inevitable Anna/Luke hookup (assuming she sticks around).

Did anyone catch the name of the book that Seth retrieved from the poolhouse at the end?

The 90210-ishness of The OC becomes clearer:
Luke = Steve (part of the gang, also friendly with jock/frat crowd)
Ryan = Dylan (brooding misunderstood outsider)
Seth = David (goofball)
Marissa = Kelly (stalker magnet)
Summer = Donna (bimbo snob type)
Cohen parents = Walsh parents

That leaves the Brandon and Brenda/Val roles unfilled. Perhaps Anna will apply for the Brenda spot.

I like the show.. however, Ryan "plays" the same character every week! The same looks, the same emotions, the same.. well you get the point. Off all the characters, he is the one, to me, that has not "developed."

Just my 2 cents...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I hear that Anna gets shipped off to a place that's not the OC and is not long for the show.

I was getting pretty bored of the Seth/Anna relationship and glad they seem to have opted toward a Seth/Summer relationship. Much more interesting.

I think that you can add Julie =Brenda/Val to the 90210 comparison above. She seems to play the nasty bitch very well.

I actually think that Sandy Cohen makes a better Brandon than he does a Jim Walsh! Love his character...

My husband and I are SO relieved that the put an end to Oliver. How stupid can they make Marissa look???

I think even the producer's were bored of the Seth/Anna thing, since they made them have so much in common it was like they were brother & sister.

Summer/Seth is more like it.

I was hoping Oliver would finish himself off, so there's wasn't a chance of him coming back and being 'better'.

This was a good ep, I'm starting to like Luke more and more each week...now he gets to hit it with the MILF; nice work buddy!

I have a question. Didn't we distinctly hear a gunshot sound in the preview for this episode....

Maybe Luke will double-team her and her mom. :p

Wouldn't put it past Fox's preview editors

I hated the episode... Marissa is still alive; Oliver is still alive. Very unsatisfying. I'm glad to see Seth & Anna break up though. I didn't want her dead, but she'd make a far more believable close friend with Seth than a girlfriend.

I can endure Marissa being alive if Ryan would dump her in the toilet where she belongs, though. We'll see how that plays out. But if Oliver is mentioned again, it better be in the context of telling us about his electroshock therapy.

I am at a loss of whether I'd rather have Summer or Anna. I mean, looks are a slight advantage for Summer if not an outright wash. Intelligence, definitely Anna. Summer definitely seems less clingy, which is always a bonus and it definitely seems she would be better to, um, "dance the mambo" with. OK, so I just talked myself into Summer. There, are you happy now? :P

P.S. Could someone slip Marissa a donut or a Twinkie or a meatball sub or something??? 52 lbs on a late teen/early 20 year old is not cool at all!

Intelligence, Shmintelligence, I want summer.

I've watched four episodes now.. at the insistence of a friend.. And truly the most troublesome part of this show is any assumption or portrayal of Seth as heterosexual.

I don't buy it. Am I alone in this?

Nope. You're not alone.

Ding dong the freak is gone. About time.

Did anyone look at the program guide description for the show this week? It says "Sandy and Kirsten tire of Ryan", but I didn't get that impression after watching the show. Did I miss it? Sure, Sandy was pissed that Ryan reacts with his fists, but Kirsten was nothing but supportive. At most Sandy was just a little impatient that Ryan wasn't opening up right away, so I don't get the misleading description. There was also a mistake in Smallville's description this week.

Is the DirecTV guide info/program description being written by people who don't watch the shows?

Whoohooo!! Oliver is history! Hope so anyways.

Now I want to see Marissa grovel and beg for forgiveness for being so stupid. And annoying.

Actually I hope that the writers of this show realize that they were quickly painting themselves in a corner by hooking everyone up so early in the series. Judging by the preview of next week's show, it looks like they will shake it up even more. Good!

Am I the only one here who liked Seth more when he was a pathetic dork with no date in sight? Now he just seems to act like every teen that finally gets him some. Except he aint gettin' any!! (yet)

And huge  for the Luke/MILF tease. Hilarious stuff there. Can't wait to see how that turns out.

Bottom line: Very good ep and I hope this show bounces back from this Oliver fiasco.

If Luke has money, you-know-who's-mother is sure to sleep with him. Par for the course there.

Bye bye Oliver! Good riddens. I thought it was funny that Luke was the only one who saw it coming. I loved his lines when he was eating with Marissa and Oliver.

Posted by: masdoggydogg

I'm hoping that Marissa and Ryan don't get back together...the less Marissa, the better! Maybe Ryan can go out with Anna, since they are dating in 'real life'.

I think the line Ryan spoke was supposed to show that he had taken Sandy's advice to use words next time you feel like using fists. I wanted to reach through the TV and strangle Oliver in that scene so it was a big change for Ryan that he didn't go psycho.

Glad Oliver is gone. Hopefully things between Marissa and Ryan won't get patched up too quickly, if at all.

That's so funny. I checked out this thread so that I could ask the same question. How did she just go *poof*?

They actually seem to mention Marissa's sister in a snipet of dialog in each episode. Like, I'm pretty sure this week she said at some point that she was spending the weekend with her mom because her dad took the sister (don't remember name) to the grandma's.

As for me, I fast-forwarded the part where Ryan "talked down" Oliver and got him to put the gun down. First off, no security guard would have busted in there with a hostage situation, they would have called the real police. And then to let Ryan do the talking? That just entered the realm of not being able to watch. It wasn't half bad on FF :0)

I was watching some pre-Tuesday Fox shows and saw the previews for this episode.

Not only did they have a gunshot sound after showing Oliver with the gun, but the announcer said it was a "shocking" ending.

Talk about a non starter, no gun firing, and a not so shocking ending.
