Worst. Episode. Ever.
Could they play up each character's quirkiness just a little more?
Yes, we know Monica is controlling. Obsessing about it wasn't funny.
Posted by: TheDewAddict
Well, it wasn't the worst ever, but it wasn't one of this season's highpoints either.
Posted by: MattD
It's kind of sad because I was a huge fan of this show when it first came on. It was truly funny. Lately, though, Ross and Monica's characters have just become pathetic. You almost feel bad for the actors to have such bad lines written for them. Looking forward to the end. Does anyone know what song they were playing for the wedding march. My wife and I were trying to figure it out, I thought it might have been an old Beatles song.
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
I liked it. But then again, I like most of the episodes...I didn't think this one was entirely funny, but how coulld Phoebe's wedding not bring out the kookiness in everyone?
Posted by: Rcrew
This went beyond bringing out the kookiness. Ross and Chandler's exchanges about getting into the wedding were nothing short of absurd, lame, grating, and a complete waste of time. And I've never, ever seen Joey be so over the top stupid. No, I enjoyed his getting absorbed in to the roll of Phoebie's father, that was ok. But outside that he must have been smoking the stupid pipe too. Enough's been said about Monica, and Rachel didn't even show up...
At best, D-
Best part of the ep were the steel drums...

It was a Beatles song. Can't place the tune right now, but I'll remember it if you can hum it....:D :D

Not a great episode. But I have to say, Joey as the minister was much better that I feared. When he volunteered I cringed, but he wasn't bad.

I thought the worst part of the episode was the preview for next week:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
It teases a reunion of 'Ross and Rachel.'
Noooooo!!!!!

Other than "Now my special place is very cold", or some such, he was great as the Minister. How credible is that though, compared to his opening dialogue with Phoebe?
Ok, ok, he does seem consistently able to take on a roll and do good, IE: the bride's father. So, I guess if you consider the Minister another roll, it works... Perhaps that's some of "Joe's" charm...

Well, since she asks him, maybe he'll just get layed! :D
That might serve to bust the stupid barrier that seems to have cut off his intellectual side...

Call me crazy, but lately it's seemed as though Joey, and to a lesser extent, Phoebe, is the only funny one left on the show. I wonder if that's to get everybody who watches Friends to tune in to his new show when it airs. You know, hate everyone else so much you can't wait to see him all by himself.

Interesting idea MattD! It certainly fits last night's show to a T!
Posted by: Ebenezer
I didn't even think Phoebe's wedding was very entertaining. It seemed forced to me. Like they owed it to the character.
Posted by: timckelley
Well you people have certainly and thoroughly trashed an ep that wasn't all that bad.

Here There and Everywhere. I recognized it within 2 seconds, no lie.

All I've read are honest views about some hack writing leaning on the more idiotic characteristics of many of the main characters. There was even a pretty good reason given as to why that happened.
Have you been drinking the Friends Koolaid again... :D

When you criticize Friends, aren't you criticizing Hollywood? And isn't an indictment against such a national institution such as Hollywood also an indictment against our country? I don't know about you, but I'm not going to sit here, while you badmouth the United States of America! <...exitting thread, while humming the Star Spangled Banner, a la Animal House style >

Wow! That sounded just like it! NOT!
They pulled it and I got some nice lady telling me they are updating their sound clips daily.
:p

I have to agree that this episode was not great. I think they are forcing things since they don't have much time left to rap things up nicely.
Posted by: timckelley
I hope it wraps up with Ross as still being single and dateless.
It's okay if Rachel gets a guy though, as long as it's not Ross.
Posted by: Zevida
I actually fast forwarded through the wedding ceremony.
*yawn*
I'm starting to see what everyone is talking about with the show being so over the top and the characters almost charicatures of themselves.
For Monica, I think it really took off when she and Chandler got married. The episode they went on their honeymoon she was terrible! Before that I always liked her, though.

Paul Rudd was on The Daily Show this week, and he said that Ross dies in the last episode.

I was just sitting here wondering if it's possible to discuss Friends on this board without getting slammed. I don't think so, anymore. This critiquing is getting a little old. Sure, I don't mind if people note they don't like the show, whatever...but geez. I don't think I'm alone in the "wanting to enjoy the last five episodes" camp...

Can't tell if you're feeling slammed. Certainly my posts were intended only to slam the writers.
FTR, I too am looking forward to the last 5 episodes, and hoping to enjoy them. Now if the writers can just do a 180 from last night's episode, I might just get that...
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
I know that. I am just a little frustrated, is all. I'd like to discuss the last few episodes in a more positive manner. Friends has been a big part of my life since it's inception, and I hate coming here to discuss it only to read the negatives. I guess that's just my problem, then.

I have actually enjoyed most of the episodes this season and am planning to watch the last few. I just thought this episode was not that great.
Posted by: ScottE22
I'm a huge "Friends" freak - but watching Phoebe try to give her toast with Monica interrupting was really grating on my nerves...........
Still better than the shark porn episode of a couple seasons ago...
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
I'm not saying this was the greatest episode ever, or even that I mind people saying it wasn't. I just get tired of hearing it over and over again. I mean, I'm sure none of us is consistent every single day.
Posted by: drew2k
Don't get me wrong - I love Friends and will watch to the end. However, I think the issue with this episode was not "consistency", but "faithfulness to character". The writers took Monica SO FAR away from her true character that this episode was almost unbearable.
Everything that was written for Monica this episode betrayed the character as developed over the course of the series. And that's a shame. There's consistency in writing, such as quality of jokes, etc., and then there's forgetting that these characters are supposed to be friends who stick up for each other no matter what.
Yes, Monica is obsessive and controlling, but she's also Phoebe's best friend, and knows how important anyone's wedding day is. Monica was written as a caricature of herself here, and made Phoebe's wedding day unbearable for Phoebe. IMO, the writers absolutely went over the top and ruined what should otherwise have been a shining moment for Lisa Kudrow to reward her for her years of incredibly portraying Phoebe.
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
I thought Kudrow did shine in what lines she had. I always have my socks knocked off by her dramatic scenes in Friends. She's a fabulous actress-but it'd be hard to write too many dramatic scenes for the Phoebe character. Her vows in the wedding were fabulous.
By the way, the one thing I did find odd was that there was no twin scene in this, if even just a brief scene with Phoebe getting blown off.

I have to agree with the group that says this was a very lacking episode...
I've gotten to hate Ross lately... He's just getting stupider and stupider, this episode just continues to prove that fact.
Could Monica have been more overbearing in this episode?? Somebody needed to strangle her during the toast...
Not only do I agree that Rachel was absent (only real plot point being having to decide between Chandler and Ross), but the Chandler that we know and love was replaced by some imposter...
Phoebe was quirky like usual, and amazingly didn't seem to be the focus in an episode about her wedding.... what are the writers thinking?
Joey, as usual anymore, seemed to be the highlight of the show. The fatherly bit was classic Joey, and he stepped up to the plate like a true friend when becoming the minister (were any other "friends" that selfless for Phoebs?? NOT!!)
Of course, All this opinion is not bashing any posters here, but the show as a whole. While there have been worse episodes, this one was far from the top.... a particular downer because last week's episode had me falling out of my chair ( Joey on Pyramid: "It's made with eggs" -- "Chicken!!" or the whole Danny DeVito as the stripper scene). Could it be that our "Friends" need at least 3 plotlines to be funny??? This week's one plot episode was lacking....
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
There usually are at least three plotlines in Friends-although on occassion there will be just one or two. Even in this episode you had a couple-Joey's story arc about the "fill-in dad" and the wedding. And Ross and Chandler's desire to be in the wedding arc. Many times they're very subtle but there.
I didn't mean to imply that people were "bashing", I just think it's kind of a downer to enjoy an episode and then come here and see so many people negative about it. I guess they're honest opinions, though, so I probably should just keep my mouth shut. Or fingers. Whatever.
And you're right-the "It's made with eggs" line was a classic.
Edited to note: upon further thought, I don't think there has ever been a show without at least two plot arcs, and I'm starting to think almost all of them have at least three.
Posted by: smak
I'm as big a Friends freak as anybody, but I think especially Monica (since Ross has plenty of reasons for his nuttiness) has been done a terrible disservice by the writers.
I mean, her best friend is getting married in 3 hours and she's basically laughing at her wedding falling apart.
The writers took things to far to the extreme. They could have done the whole thing up til that part, and had Monica grab the phone and bark out orders to the people on the other end, and it would have been a nice moment.
Maybe it's the supersizing fact of the show, that the writers can do 22 minutes, but just can't fill the extra 10 minutes with anything, so they just have to draw it out...
