I think a lot of people here might be interested in this...
Turner Classic Movies (256 on DirecTV) is showing Superman: The Movie at 8 PM EST on Sunday 2/22, and it's even letterboxed.
The description says this is the "long version", running 2 and a half hours, but I have no idea how this differs from the short version. I only know the "original", so I'll be recording it.
If you didn't already know, TCM shows movies without commercial interruption.:)

There were several "long"versions. If it's no commercials and it's 2.5 hrs long, then it almost might be the 151 minute "DVD version"

That doesn't sound like the "long version" to me. :)
The theatrical version ran 2:23.
Two nonstandard edits exist out there, neither authorized by the director. ABC ran the
film in a four-hour slot over two nights, so a 3:02 version was prepared. Even more footage was added to the film when it went into syndication (3:08), commonly known to collectors as the "KCOP version." Neither three-hour version has been released other than to television. A complete rundown of the added scenes can be found here.

Donner did restoration work in 2000 for the DVD release, and 9 minutes or so was added to the mix. The "2000 restoration" (which appears on the DVD) runs 2:31.
For the record, add back the 20 minutes found in "deleted scenes" on the disc, and you are still missing 10+ minues from the ABC version, and 15+ from the "KCOP version."

Hint: Pad your recording... IIRC, movies on TCM will sometimes run long.
