I purchased 3 Philips DSR704R DirecTV DVR Tivo receivers. I have viewed many posts about upgrades. The information seems well written, but I consider myself fairly "Stupid" when it comes to understanding the details by which upgrades are done on Tivo receivers. Can anyone help me in pursuing an upgrade on my Philips DSR704R receivers? One is near a computer but the others aren't. This receiver gives me 35Hrs of record time. I would like to upgrade to a minimum of 100 hours. Thanks for any help given and I think I have found a new home on the internet to sit and learn. Have a great day all!!!

What sort of assistance do you require?

I need assistance in knowing what I need to actually do an upgrade to my just purchased 35HR DirecTV Tivo. From type of hard drive that will work, software required, and easy to follow (for dummies) directions on how to perform an upgrade to 100+ hours. Thanks for the reply.

Pretty much any ATA hard drive is fine. 100 Hours is about 120Gb (on a DTiVo). MFS Tools 2.0 and directions for using it are in Hinsdale's post at the top of the Forum or at Weaknees's interactive page at http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/

Thanks for the information, however I am not sure what type of TIVO I have. I have seen info concerning upgrading a type 2 (?) TIVO. How do I know what type of TIVO I have?

The DSR704 is a Series 2 DirecTiVo. The Series 1 TiVoes are no longer in manufacture.
