Dell Small Business has a 20% sale on the 250GB Western Digital.
First Go to: http://www1.us.dell.com/content/def...s=04&l=en&s=bsd
Search for item: A0158102
The drive will come up at $249.99 - minus 20% discount
There is a rebate for $70 (download the form from the same site)
Price after rebate $129.96
They do not charge shipping for ground (they add and credit $6.00).
They do charge Sales Tax in some States (including CA).

YMMV
They are apparently way backordered.

Just Thought I would let everybody Know, The drives are back-ordered. I placed my order about 12:15 am on the morning of 2-18-04 and was informed that the ship date is on or before 2-31-04. A friend of mine ordered his about nine hours later and was informed that his ship date was 3-1-04.

2-31-04 ? That would be a first.
I noticed the 3 week delay - since I am not in a hurry to upgrade I did not mind. Should a better deal pop up I can always cancel.

Wouldn't a 250GB drive be wasted in a Tivo? Last I read, the max size drive Tivo can address is 137GB.

What H.O.T said.

make sure you buy the warranty for $15 from WD to extend from 1 yr to 3 years. My old 3 yr warrantied 80 gig SE caviar crashed after only about a 1 yr.

So what's the verdict, can Tivo handle this much harddrive or is this overkill????????

Due to my Pioneer TiVo's DVD failure, the unit is being replaced by the dealer under warranty. I decided not to open the replacement unit until after the warranty period. Dell moved my ship date to after 4/1/04. Dell Made it very hard to cancel (they dot allow cancellations on the web site) and they have long wait for customer support.
Fortunately I used AMEX private payments (a new number each time) so I canceled the number - they will never get authorization to charge, and emailed them to cancel.

A sticky at the top of the underground forum has info on larger drives. I've very minimally scanned it and and decided I'm going to be satisfied with my 137 out of 160 gigs to be quite frank. (2 of them actually)
Plus with this WD crashing after only a year, there's no way you can watch all those gigs anyways. I wish there was an EZ way to back up tivo but there isn't.
