Is there a clear explanation of how the search functions on the forum work and what exactly they do?

For example, how does the Search function parse search terms? "Double quotes" don't work the way I expect (e.g., I couldn't do a search on "Channel 6") and the NOT function doesn't seem to work at all. What about parentheses? Wildcards?

And it seems that a Search done from the front page (i.e., a search of all the TiVo forums) will only retrieve postings from 2004, but a Search done from an individual forum page (i.e., from the "Search this forum" area on the upper right of the forum) yields results back as far as January 2003. Is that right? Is there any way to go back farther?

When every newbie post seems to get an automatic "do a search" reply, it seems like there ought to be good explanations of and capabilities for doing exactly that.

Only the archive has threads older than January 1, 2003. You mist be missing the use of the OPTIONS area at the bottom of the search page where you can pull more posts. The search only works on words only, and not phases. This "this word and that" will not look for that phrase, but each word.

I'm not seeing anything older that 1-03 even with the "all results" option chosen. Are older posts unavailable?

I tried the same title search (daily show) in the archive section and got no matches - kind of hard to believe.

All threads that have not been posted to from 1-1-03 are in the archive area. Thus anything older than 1-1-03. Click on the ARCHIVE link to go find things older than 1-1-03.
