Looking to get a Tivo, wondering if I can run the video into my powerbook, capture it and burn it onto DVD for archiving? Anything I should know?

Thanks

I'm about to start doing this. The only other piece you need is a device that lets you import the video into the PowerBook. I ordered a Canopus ADVC-100 which converts the composite video out of the DTivo to DV, then iMovie on the Mac sees the Tivo as a standard DV camera. The Canopus is the only lower end device that can do locking of the audio to the video. For a cheaper option, the Dazzle Hollywood DV bridge can be had for about $50 less.

Once you have the second Composite and Audio outputs from the DTivo connected to the ADVC-100, just do Save to VCR for each show, and pull it in as a clip in iMovie. After cutting out all the commericals etc, you can play it back from the harddrive on the PowerBook or burn a DVD. I plan on using this to archive some of my favorite shows, building DVD menus using iDVD too.

I'll let you know how it works... the ADVC-100 should arrive today or tomorrow.
