In wall amplifiers

Hi
I installed a home audio/video distribution system last year, but have been unable to finish it because I don't have an amp to power the speakers in the garden.
I have two speaker wires, a line level output with stereo plugs and a power supply.
Originally someone was going to provide me with an amp that fitted into a double wall socket, but it never came off.
Anyone got any ideas?

how about a zone mixer

with this you have a standard lightswitch size panel with two switches - one for souce select (1-4 and off) and a volume control.
tghis tells the box how loud to allow a line level through, then to a separate amp, and out. basically turns an amp into a remote control version - albeit with mic override and two sets of inputs - normally used for pubs etc
i have one so that the sound can be piped from the living room to the kitchen, and the missus can control volume / souce from a small box with three thin wires without touching the amp itself

I don't really want a zone mixer and seperate amp. The positioning of the cables etc is in the middle of a stretch of open wall with nowhere to hide the amp - design fault on my part - but I was expecting to get an in wall amp so it did'nt really matter where it was positioned.
All I really want is a simple (?) compact amp that hopefully can take instructions from a remote. Thinking about it if it only had an IR receiver, I could switch it on or off from a switched spur.

Have you tried Pragmatic?

Hi Mike,
All these things are a challenge but could well be do-able though you may end up having to box the amp up and hide it outside somewhere...
Please will you give me some more details? Do you want to put the controls on the inside or the outside of the building? How many watts are you hoping for? What is the power supply? (12V? Mains?) Do you want mono or stereo? Have you already bought the speakers and if so what are they?
If the box you want to put this on is inside where is the other side of the wall? In another room? Outside?
Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks for that. You're right their UK agent is very helpful. The amp costs £315 + VAT, so its a definate option - although the bloke said I could get it much cheaper from Maplin!! I can't find anything similar at Maplin though.
