Call for action: The NBC Programming Phone Number

Call and register your displeasure with NBC and their 9:59 hijinks. Inform them that you used to be a loyal "ER", "Law and Order", etc. Season Pass watcher and now you will no longer be watching their program until they fix their scheduling.
Venting on a webboard will not fix the problem and email is too easy to delete and ignore. The only way to fix this stupidity is to deluge them with calls from their angry customers.

Another method would be to call and complain to the advertisers on these shows. Tell them you will not buy their products or view their advertising (that they spend a lot of money on) until NBC changes their scheduling decisions - follow the money.

Personally, I'd rather the networks advertise accurate start and end times for their shows, even if it does cause problems with another show.
The burden, as I see it, is on TiVo to know it's OK to only record 59 minutes of a lower priority season pass before changing channels to a higher priority one.

Yeh, but there's no reason for a network pull this nonsense every night! Plus, even with the weird start/stop times, they STILL don't get it right!!

Count me in.

I don't have a HUGE problem with the odd starting times (I don't like them, but I could live with them), but I DO have a HUGE problem with them NOT SITCKING TO THEM!! I expect to tune in Or Tivo a show at 8:59 and it starts at 8:59, not 8:57, and not 9:01. It's the padding that always screws up my SPs, not the odd times. It's gotten so bad on "Must See Thursday" that I just set up Friends to record for 3 hours so I don't miss anything, because I don't like Will and Grace, but if I want to watch whatever is before or after it without missing the ending and beginning of the next show, I have to do it that way and FF through W&G
BTW, did anyone notice that HBO is getting almost as bad as NBC? Last night's SITC, ran almost a full 5 minutes over!!

What shows do the extra mintute of ER, L&O, etc conflict with? We can call and say we haven't watched ER because it conflicted with Xyz.

Odd part is?
I don't have this problem with NBC's thursday lineup. I let Tivo do its thing and I get all of friends, missing just the last "joke" after the credits (they dump it so far behind the commercials anyway).

You know, even if 2 million people call and complain, NBC will still interpret it as "Hey, 99% of the population doesn't mind how we schedule!"

The sad part is that NBC is also the best at starting and finishing on time. The West Wing is the best timed show out there: my recording always starts with the flag and the drums, right on the button.

But there is usually a small introduction scene right after the "Previously on the West Wing" then they cut to the flag and the drums. Granted you usually only miss 30 seconds but you are missing a little.

Am I missing anything? I get the flag and drums (about a 5 sec intro), then "previously", then the intro to this episode, then the full blown theme song.

You've got that backwards...
It is:
-drum and flag
- then "Previously on The West Wing"
- and then the new show.

...while still on West Wing... but then I miss the "next on..." part. It cuts off right after "next on The West Wing..."

Again, these West Wing examples is exactly what I'm talking about. We have a mantra for meetings here where I work "Start on time, end on time" NBC and the other nets just don't follow that. Now, if ALL networks do this, doesn't it defeat the purpose to keep you from switching from or to get you to switch early to a show? Or is the REAL purpose to sell that EXTRA commercial or two?

Just add a couple of minutes to the end time. Whats the big deal?

It's a HUGE deal if you are trying to record shows on the same channel at the same time.
For instance, this is what happened to me:
Had SP set up for Friends with 5 minute padding
Had Apprentice SP set up with no padding (was originally on Wed night, so no padding seemed to be needed).
Had Scrubs and ER set up too
Because of the padding, The Apprentice did not record because I was ALSO recarding Survivor at the same time as Friends and THAT was padded. I had to remove the padding from Friends the next week in order to get THe Apprentice to record and got the ending of Friends on during The Apprentice (wife doesn't watch the Apprentice, so I had to tell her to watch the beginning of the Apprentice to see the end of Friends.
Now, the following week, Will and Grace are on after Friends. I HATE W&G, but of course Friends ran late, I never padded Friends back, and I missed the closing of Friends because I don't record W&G.
See what kind of hassle it is? You have to watch the scheduling EVERY WEEK in order to have everything set right. If the nets just followed their OWN SCHEDULING the way they used to, no problems, I get everything.
And don't even let me go on about them moving shows from time slot to time slot with no appearant rhyme or reason!! That's been discussed in other threads here.

I HAVE NO PROBLEM with NBC either getting in an extra commercial or trying to discourage people from switching channels.

Neither do I as long as the start and stop when they say they will.

Airline seems do be doing quite well for me.

I just set up a manual recording to start on the hour and write off that first minute. 9 times out of 10 it's just a lame joke or teaser for the rest of the episode anyhow.
Although it would be excellent if TiVo would give us the partial recording flexiblity that we've been clamoring for.

yea it's a pain on Wed night to have to set Angel for 905 to 1000 with a 3 min early start just so I can have AMer Idol padded 2 min over so we don't miss the ending.
Would be nicer to be able to do 902 instead of 905 minus 3...my head was spinning trying to figure it out
