I have a quick/stupid question...
I'm using Hinsdale's directions and I am supposed to type in this command...
mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hdc | mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi - /dev/hda
What is the "| " character? I tried the key that is right above enter but that didn't seem to work.
Help?!@

never mind. I was using spaces around the | before. it worked when I took the spaces out. Sorry for wasting post space.

It's called 'pipe'. It should be Shift-\, but if you have an unusual keyboard (like I do), it may not match your keycaps because the boot disk uses the standard US keymap. You might have to go hunting for it.

There's some variation in the way that character is rendered. I think you'll see it rendered with a small break in the middle, as it appears on the keyboard.
