Upgrade Software Version

Hello All,

I have recently upgraded my Sony SVR-2000 with the TurboNet product, here are my questions so far:

I did everything per the posted instructions- and FTP even works to the box, however, my box won't make daily calls. I checked the firewall logs, and nothing is trying to "get out" from the tivo IP address, so I figured that the dial out is still not working.

To recap, I have done the ,#401 as my dial prefix, I have removed the phone line < just to be safe >, I have also been able to FTP to the box, so I know it is functioning on the network.

2nd, I keep reading about software version 3.0, and I am wondering if that is a possible upgrade- currently I am running software version: 1.3.0-04-137-010... If there is an upgrade path to the new software version, that would be helpful.

3rd, after I closed up the tivo box, I was able to ping it, ftp to it, but I cannot telnet or use TivoWeb. I thought I installed all three at once- but I guess I didn't. Is there a way to get tivoweb and telnet working by using FTP to upload to the box, and edit startup files?

that's all for now, my next upgrade is to convert to a larger capacity dual drive system.

thanks!

,#401 was added in 3.0.

I think it's incompatible with the standard TurboNet drivers.

So is the daily dial over ethernet not going to work on this old software version?

Are there ways to upgrade to 3.0?

I'm not an expert on these things. I know people did do their daily calls over the net before 3.0, but I assume you're already looking at the instructions for doing that.

An upgrade to 3.0 will wipe out all your current hacks, of course, but 3.0 is a much better version than 1.3 and I don't think it'll interfere with your hacking.

Presumably you disabled the version upgrade (in the boot parameters?) or you would already have 3.0.

No, I didn't see pre-3.0 upgrade instructions for turbonet, on www dot 9thtee dot com they only have the 3.0 on the pages and under support.

I didn't disable anything, I got the tivo used from work- did a factory reset on it when I got the Turbonet card, and followed the instructions with my card- however, they were for the 3.0.

I am not concerned about losing programming or recorded show. But, I do not have a local phone line to call tivo service. I do have a cell phone adapter to connect to analog devices < tivo, etc... >, but would prefer not to kill the minutes if I dont have to.

So, if you have instructions, or know where some exist, I would like to do the daily calls over ethernet.

thanks Robert S.
