Judging Amy 02/24 **untagged spoilers**

OK. I must give a partial mia culpa on Amy being self-centered. She sure did show her butt in this episode with the whole ex-boyfriend I left at the alter thing (I have actually not seen those episodes where she left Stu (that is is name right?)). She did have a good point though when she said that compared to what her current BF has gone through everything is else is petty.

that whole scene made me uncomfortable. On the anniversary of his wife's death, and on his simple request, she couldn't follow though. She's so damn stubborn! I really expected her to suck it up and be there for David once in the car.

Cheech is fast becoming the jewel of the show, hands down. I look forward to every scene he is in. And now it appears he may be nearly as rich as Jarod was! :D Can Maxine attract them, or what.

What about the daughter and son just going along to the school! Man, daddy wields some power over them!

Previews look very interesting! Amy kissing David, so there must be a reconciliation, and Cheech's mom dissn Maxine. Can't wait for the full scene where Maxine and Amy are ROFLTAO because Maxine's boyfriend's Mother doesn't like her!!!!

I found that strange as well! It is almost as if the writers have this story arch that they MUST not loose or their whole finely tuned story will be shot to hell.

Nice catch! I did not make the connection. Since Richard Crenna died, they probably have lots of story lines revolving around Maxine being with a rather rich fellow.

But the way they have crafted Cheech is working for me. The slow reveal that he is an extremely diverse man is great. You knew from his introduction that he was talented, and possibly much more than a pickup truck driving gardener. Now that it's looking like he's a wealthy man, with a prissy ex, a demanding mother, and troubled children! Woo Hoo! Stories abound.

He's also quite possibly a single parent!

Well let's see where they take it. Did he not have to go to jail or something or was that his partner Chong? I know one of them was just convicted (at least I think I know) because of some sort of bong company they share with their child. Am I dreaming this up?

Tommy Chong was convicted. Unlike Cheech, who has managed to have a pretty good career, Chong just never got past the "reefer dude movie" stage.

Saw Tommy Chong in something recently. He was the owner of a photo booth where the 'real' character in the show went to get a job. Just don't remember the show. Chong was doing the usual burn out hippy.

I guess I see Amy's reaction to Stu's marriage pretty typical.... if I found out my ex fiance married a 22 year old polynesian 6 months after I left him at the alter, I might find myself in a rambling (albeit inconsideratly) way.

I think part of it was that Amy was nervous about David and that night... part of that is nervous, frustration at Stu, and just being a girl.

To me- the most telling thing about the whole episode isnt that David was upset she was talking about Stu.. it was his reaction to her comment about 'barley dating'.

At that moment, David realized (and was clearly devastated) that he cared more for Amy then she did for him. At least that was his perception of her feelings for him.... he has already given more to her emotionally then he can almost stand, and he simply can't believe that she doesn't see the significance in his being open and intimate with her about his wife's death, inviting her to share that night, admiting he needed her there... That was my take on why David reacted the way he did- he clearly doesn't see them as 'barely dating', not because she wouldn't shut up about Stu.

But in Amy's defense... he is all over the place, he is there, he withdraws... then he comes back- so she is totally entitled to feel like they are 'barely dating', because lets face it... they are both in unfamiliar territory and there are no rules for this.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

I assume since I have it on pretty good source that David reveals a big secret in episode 20 and he comes back next year... that the break up wasn't really permenant.

.. also in the previews, there was a shot of Amy and David kissing again.

I liked your analysis. I believe I understood all that. But I still feel it was a moment for Amy to focus on David.

Yes.. she should have, but I don't think you can fault a person for 30 seconds of rambling about news that big...

Maybe I am just not a very good girlfriend ;)

LOL. I'm not sure if it was about the barely dating comment, it might be all about that.

But he asked her to put it aside, she said ok, then went right back into it. Didn't his frustration level go up a notch at that point?

I think I must be neurotic or something... cause I get, I am in the minority that thinks she acted completely normal. Not necessarily nice or considerate, but normal.. you can't help when you are that stunned by news... but it was inconsiderate and rather self centered..

Posted by: cptodd

I guess I agree with you both. I am not sure at that moment that either of them could see the other's point/needs.

I agree that Amy's reaction was normal. The news of Stu came at a bad time, she can't help that. And remember that Amy was still in love with Stu, she just realized that she couldn't marry him. So it would be expected that all those feelings for him wouldn't just evaporate because she chose to end the relationship. Yes, it would have been nice if Amy could be a saint and ignore all that and just be there for David, but she couldn't. David originally wasn't even going to go to the dinner, and maybe he should have just stuck with that plan.

I thought the last scene of the episode was heartbreaking. They played it so good, the song, the acting, Amy's curt "you're right" and then her pause while walking up to the house. I seriously got tears in my eyes.

I think Amy was very justified in saying that they are "barely dating." Yes, it appears that David has opened up to Amy emotionally, but at the same time, it seems more like they are developing a close friendship then a deep romance. They've officially been on two dates (three if you count the sushi), so they really are hardly dating.

So who thinks that Heather went out to San Francisco to try and convince Vincent to be a good guy and marry her for the sake of their baby :D That was pretty crazy she just took off like that. Her character has always been so demanding, do what she wants now or she drops you.

Posted by: scubagal

Ha! Another one who also believes it is Vincent's baby.... I just don't get why Kyle hasn't flat at asked that, that is one thing to me that just doesn't make sense... any normal guy who walked in on his quasi-girlfriend with another man.. .and a month or so later she is pregnant, the first words out of your mouth would be "IS IT MINE!?!?"

I was so expecting David to drive back... or her to run back to the car.. I admit it, I am totally addicted to this show and I always cry watching it... even the TNT reruns... I am a sap!

Maybe Lilly will come back... I do not love Heather.

Posted by: Rcrew

Good idea, Heather seeking out Vincent. Did they ever have any other history, or was it just a drunken fling? She's wanted Kyle so bad, I almost wouldn't put it past her to have gotten pregnant. How long ago did she get Kyle to pretend to be her fiance for her visiting parents? She's been in lala land thinking they had a real relationship, when they weren't even 'barely dating'! :D

It sounds like you mean That 70s show... But I didn't think that was chong. The character your describing was a regular supporting cast member for quite a while... He did disappear a season or two ago though.

Unless there is another show where a main character went to work for some hippy drug addict in a photo hut.

Posted by: Rcrew

I was thinking it was That 70s show. The owner was definitely Tommy Chong. I'll poke around to see if I can find a cast credit.

Posted by: Rcrew

That 70's Show 1999 to 2002, Leo. Tommy Chong. He probably owns the rights to "Far Out Man", and IIRC that's about all Leo said... :D

Does anyone know the name of the song that played at the end of this episode? I heard it somewhere recently and can't remember where and I have no clue what the name of it is...

Any info will be appreciated. ThankS!!

Hi priscillah and welcome to the TiVo Now Playing.

(Of course, I don't feel like I've been here long enough to welcome newbies, but whatever! :))

The song is "Mad World" and an 80's band called Tears for Fears recorded it, but their version is quite different than the version heard on the show. Theirs is more 80's pop. I went to Amazon and Tears for Fears have an album called Shout that has a clip.

I thought the song was haunting, I loved it!

This version was done by Gary Jules- you can find it on the Donny Darco Soundtrack....
