So many great lines--so little .sig!

Posted by: LoadStar

How can they cancel this show!?!? AAAAAUGH!

Posted by: TiVaholic

Great lines? I'm still shaken from the ending...I really did cry that was so emotional...That has never happened to me before from anything I've read online (Ok, maybe from the paintball Xbox kid at Christmas) or seen on TV.

Just wow.

Boy, women just never catch a break on this show, don't they?

Posted by: Peter000

I'm tired of the "Big Bad" being somebody in the main evil-fighting cast. Angel, Willow, Cordelia, now Fred.

I'm tired of the over the top "we've got to save her at all cost" dialog. It's a parody of itself at this point. Just don't stand around talking about it, DO it!

This episode was SO cartoony it got in my way of feeling sorry for Fred's death. And I liked the character alot.

I did enjoy the "Caveman vs. Astronaut" banter, and the "Hole through the Earth" premise. The scenes where Wesley was by her bedside were well done. But I'm also tired of the whole "Monster that's older than recorded history" stuff. Weren't the First Evil, and what's-her-name from last season older than recorded time as well? How about something that's newer than recorded time? Maybe It would have been better if I hadn't seen a couple hundred plus Buffy and Angel episodes.

I don't know... maybe it is time for this show to bow out gracefully. Though I was feeling the same way about Buffy half way through season 4, then it came around again for me.

And something that I've suspected is getting more supporting evidence.

People with dark hair look GREAT when it's dyed blue!!

I love Spike & Wesley, though for different reasons.

"Not this girl. Not this day." Awwww....

And Angel & Spike sharing history & talks about flying. Hehehehe

Posted by: Tivohud

I agree that the premise reeks of recycled Cordelia/Jasmine writing, but I thought the show was well done. Some of the more touching moments, and I have to admit Fred looks awesome. I am holding out hope based on what Fred said before she died that when they get rid of the Big Bad (they will, won't they?) ;) that Fred's soul will return to her body.

Angel is nuts. A caveman would kick an astronaut's ass any day.

Posted by: LoadStar

I'm told that the argument in this episode was lifted almost word-for-word from an argument that the Angel staff writers actually had in real life, which makes it all the more amusing. :)

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Chapter I, titled “Sara”:
quote:
Once on a dark winter's day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London that the lamps were lighted and the shop windows blazed with gas as they do at night, an odd-looking little girl sat in a cab with her father and was driven rather slowly through the big thoroughfares.

She sat with her feet tucked under her, and leaned against her father, who held her in his arm, as she stared out of the window at the passing people with a queer old-fashioned thoughtfulness in her big eyes.

She was such a little girl that one did not expect to see such a look on her small face. It would have been an old look for a child of twelve, and Sara Crewe was only seven. The fact was, however, that she was always dreaming and thinking odd things and could not herself remember any time when she had not been thinking things about grown-up people and the world they belonged to. She felt as if she had lived a long, long time.

At this moment she was remembering the voyage she had just made…

Cavemen are likely to be physically smaller and IMHO weaker than astronauts. Angel is right, Spike is wrong, Period ;)

This show is a guilty pleasure for me. My wife thinks I'm nuts as an adult male for watching it. Yah, the plot lines are stupid and recycled (evil older than time - recursive) but the dialog and the characters are outstanding. I'll miss it.

And skinny as she is, I think Fred looks hot with the blue hair.

And astronauts know kung fu. Have you ever met a caveman who knows kung fu?

Posted by: larboz

caveman and more physically fit.. brutal strength and dont bother to think about plans... in a fist fight. my $$ is on the caveman

in a strategic fight it should go to the astronauts

Posted by: KLB

I'm guessing this episode and plot line was shot before the cancellation news came down but does anyone know for sure? I'd like to be able to watch for the shift...

I'm SOOOO glad Charles killed Knox... although I think he not only did it because of Fred but also to cover his tracks on getting the thing through customs.

The cavemen vs. astronauts was one of the best running gags on this or Buffy.

I liked that Angel at one point says "screw the world..." and doesn't care what the cost is to save her. ((spoiler regarding the preview for next week))
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
unfortunately from the preview for next week it doesn't look like he goes through with it. He's weak... it would have been a major development of his character had he done it (or maybe he does try?) but I'm betting that he's going to do the "oh, but the world... oh, what to do..." thing

I loved Lorne busting Eve's lip... I just wish he would have done it a few more times.

Speaking of gratutitus violence: when Wes shot that guy--- fantastic! Now some people would look at that and think that working at W&H has corrupted him but I like to think of it as his opinion of the kind of people who work for W&H... well, that and he wanted to make sure he had everyone's full attention on the problem at hand.

Now we come to the moment where we have to wonder the fate of our dear Fred. Dead? Sort-of Dead? Trapped in her body that has been taken over?

Yeah, we've seen take overs before and it's a bit old. Didn't anyone learn from TNG doing too many of them????

I'm dreading the next episodes....

There's not likely to be much of (if any) shift--Whedon said they were structuring this season as if it were the last anyway, while leaving it open for possible future seasons, so there wouldn't be much reason to change anything.

Speculation here:

Was anyone else thinking that, since the hole goes all the way through the world, there really shouldn't BE any people in between the demon's body and it's spot in the hole. I mean, except for maybe a stray coal miner or something. It seems like the demon would be sucked back to its place in a straight line, through the earth, not travelling along the earth's surface (and thus killing thousands of people).

Posted by: ccwf

Actually, I was thinking they would suck the demon to the other end of the hole in the world, which would have sent the demon mostly over ocean to, as was said on the show, a spot near New Zealand.

Posted by: TiVaholic

Ok, I'm ok now. Was that Fred at the end? I'll have to watch that last bit again.

Every time I saw Spike on the bridge, I was expecting him to spit :D. When he mentioned the guy on the other end, I was surprised they didn't, but also glad because that was not the place for it....just too sad at that moment.

Posted by: Graymalkin

Yes, TiVaholic, that was Amy Acker at the end. But she's not Fred anymore. She's Illyria, the Insect Queen of the Night Before Time. Or something like that.

I posted this in another thread, but it seems appropriate here, now:

For the complete story (which has the network's description of next week's episode, if you consider that kind of thing a spoiler), go here and scroll down. There's also a link to a much bigger version of the picture.

Ya know, I watched the episode again and I have to say it was a DAMN GOOD episode. I give it even more credit then I did seeing it the first time and I can forgive the tired "_____ taking over _____'s body" storyline.

Amy Acker gave an absolutely brilliant performance.

Unfortunately looking at the preview for next week
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I noticed that someone I thought died.. didn't. Hopefully Wes gets a crack at him.

"You will help me because I look like her....... " <shiver> Next week is going to be a barnburner for sure.

Posted by: TiVaholic

Can you please put information from the previews in spoilers?

sorry, TiVaholic. I edited the post to fix it for others. Thought I had spoiler'ed them like I did in an earlier post--------

Great ep - as usual. And whoever noted last week that Joss usually follows the lightest eps with the darkest ones - good call.

I'm going with astronauts. For one - they're upright, so they have a natural advantage. They also are going to be as or more physically fit than the cavemen. Maybe not as strong, but they should be infintely more agile. And surely they could Macguyver a weapon out of the available resources that would counteract the club the cavemen wield. Right?

;)

Thanks, KLB.

Interesting episode description for next week:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Wonder who it is from Sunnydale that Angel is going to consult? Giles makes the most sense, but maybe one of the former resident demons... Thoughts?

Rumors has it that it's

Willow, but she isn't available. Making the Sunnydale thing a red herring.

for anyone avoiding the preview for next week, the pics at ComicsContinuum have spoilers. if you saw the preview, you're okay.

Damn it... I'm really dreading these coming episodes, it looks like things are going to get incredibly dark and then it all ends.

I was under the impression that

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
she was available because Sarah wasn't... I coulda swore I saw somewhere that Hannigan was going to be a guest star for an episode or three...

That's pretty unlikely--
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Allyson Hannigan is in London doing a stage play until May. In fact, I saw an interview with either her or her husband joking about how they wished Angel would move to England for a few episodes so she could do a guest appearance, and they could see each other in the process.

Perhaps they originally intended for her to guest star, and her stage commitment forced them to change it to a non-guest-sppearance!
