Windows Security Updates available on CD

In some instances a CD is easier than an Internet download.

You can get a free CD containing security updates released by Microsoft up to 15 October 2003 for the Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98 and Windows Me operating systems >

You need a .NET Passport to order (more or less the same as a Hotmail address).

Those of you who avoided the pain of scrolling down past Uzbekistan in order to register the United Kingdom as your location and declared yourself to be in Afghanistan, will have to amend you details (easily down as part of the order process).

I don't think that anybody should rely on a 4-month old CD for security updates. I've had 10 security updates for Windows XP since then.

Extremely good advice, although there is a slight Catch 22 situation. You need the latest update to protect your computer while it is connected to the Internet, but you can't get the latest update without connecting to the Internet.

The 'military' origins of Catch 22 reminds me of the ultimate in publicly acknowledged computer security - Tempest.

This film on the Tempest project, declassified by the USA military back on 01/03/91, has a still pertinent title, "SO YOU THINK YOU'RE SECURE" >

Then go to 'Basic Materials Search' and enter 64336 as a key word (can't use a direct link, the site uses session cookies).
