Come on -- CJ and Hoynes?
This episode confirmed everything I had suspected about the "new" West Wing (ie, without Sorkin, with Wells). Hoynes says, "that was 10 years ago". Hello! CJ started working for Bartlet during his first campaign, which would have been 6 years ago. Prior to that CJ worked in the entertainment industry, IIRC, and was recruited by Toby to be spokesperson. Josh had worked for Hoynes, but AFAIK no connection between CJ and Hoynes *ever* existed before last night.
Boo!
I'm not a big fan of "we need a juicy plot twist tonight so let's forget about the last 4+ years worth of episodes we've done."

WW gets moved down to my second DTiVo next week so I can record Kingdom Hospital and The OC on the upstairs @ 9 (living room) DTiVo. Which means for all intents and purposes I'm probably done with WW.

Whose to say they never met at a function before?
As for this being pulled out of the air, yeah not the best. But there has always been tension between him and the rest of the cast so ehh.
WW is a great show and will remain atop my weds night must records.

I'm disappointed about what they did to CJ's character. That is definitely a Wells-ian touch.
Once again, the intern saved the day. That scene was great! "Do you want me to cry?"

Come on folks - you're really complaining because you just found out CJ had a one-night stand with Hoynes 10 years ago? Gimme a break!
We only found out two years ago that Toby had a wife and was divorced. Was it a secret? No, it just wasn't relevant to the story until they decided to bring it up. No one complained then. Characters always have back stories we don't know about, so I don't see a problem at all.
We know CJ and Toby were friends long before they joined Bartlett for America, and who's to say CJ and Hoynes didn't run into each other just before the campaign began? It doesn't matter! It happened in CJ's past, CJ confided only in Toby somewhere along the way, and CJ was concerned in this episode because Hoynes was planning to write a tell-all book. She didn't want to be in it, so she handled it personally, knowing she could actually force Hoynes to NOT write a book and maybe even NOT run for president.
Anyway, I enjoyed this episode more than some of the more recent ones. Did you notice what we didn't see? The SIT room!

Yeah.. I didn't make any assumption that CJ didn't know Hoynes until the first presidential campaign.
One little thing I *almost* flipped over.. It's really silly, but here goes.. CJ uses a Powerbook. (the Apple symbol is covered with the Seal of the President). The reporter left a floppy disk on the floor, containing the news story. I just about flipped out when she appeared to put it into her Powerbook.. But when they cam back from commercial, you could clearly see an external floppy drive sitting next to the computer.

Actually that looks like it was the external Iomega ZIP-250 USB drive.

well, I really don't know what all the external floppy drives look like, but I *DID* see some external, drive like device, so I was suitably convinced.
I'm slightly worried about the story line with Josh's new intern.. For a while, it look like Donna (my favortie character) was "moving up". Now, it looks like she is being upstaged by this punk.

I'll agree with you on that Jeff. It's a shame, because Donna is smart, capable, likable, and funny.
I saw the actor who plays Josh's intern on On-Air with Ryan Seacrest, and Ryan asked him if he was brought on the show to attract a younger audience. The actor (I'm just too lazy right now to look up his name) only said that they're competing against The O.C., so it may have something to do with, but he was smart enough to add he couldn't say the producers' true motivation.
I keep saying this, but I wonder if they're just trying to build up characters for the eventual continuation of the West Wing after Bartlett's second term is up? Assuming the current VP runs for President and wins the election, you'd already have him and Will Bailey, possibly Will's half-sister (Winnie Cooper!), maybe the new intern is just another possibility they're developing? It would make sense for NBC and the WW creators to build up characters the audience likes so if the show DOES continue beyond Bartlett, there's a built in audience.

My point, mentally anyway since I totally failed to write it down :), was that he dropped a ZIP disk*, laptops don't normally have ZIP drives, and hence CJ probably inserted the ZIP disk into the external ZIP drive in the first place and it was simply a camera angle thing that made it look like the drive appeared between takes.
*A ZIP disk look kinda like a 3 1/2" floppy, but it is slightly bigger and about twice as thick.

Yeah, looked like a ZIP disk to me too...
But there are all kinds of technical "oddities" in that show.... Like I posted a while back... there are 3 or 4 different brands / models of phones all communicating with each other..
While it *is * possible that the whitehouse has a Nortel, Cisco, 3com, and an Avaya phone switch, I would hope they could break down and buy ONE system to make things easier

This jumped out at me also. I thought CJ wasn't involved in politics before she joined Bartlett's campaign. Even if she did meet Hoyne's being involved before wouldn't she have known Josh before also? Maybe not but I think they're stretching the shows history to make up drama.
They don't have the writing to carry the show with the characters anymore so they create drama each week.

Almost but not CJ and Hoynes, from what I understood. I got that he tried but failed to get all happy with her many years back.

It was quite clear to me that they had in fact slept together...no way would she have been so introspective about an "almost"...she said the one moment she would erase was getting in an elevator...I'm guessing it was up to his room...
