From the left:
Tannoy Lancaster speaker with multi-standard TV monitor on top.

Sony TV, DVHS recorder, Panny Sky Box, Nokia Media Master 9600S Sat Rx.

TiVo2, Philips DVDRecorder 890, TiVo1, Video Picture and Waveform Monitor, Video and Audio Jackfield, Sherwood AV Amp, Sony DVP-S735D DVD Player, Video and Audio Distribution Amp, Audio Cassette Recorder.

Tannoy Speaker with VHS Recorder on top (just out of sight)

In front:
NDS/Tanberg Professional 4.4.2 Sat Rx with Sat Elevation Control on top, 8 way L-Band splitter, EchoStar Sat Rx and positioner and just out of shot a Spectrum Analyzer.

Connecting that lot up was easy. Making it look tidy is something else!

Sorry about the crap wide-angle lens.

The spectrum analyser, I knew I was missing something vital!
:D

Vital when looking for satellite feeds and for tracking satellites that don't stay in one place! :D

This is a totally-serious question ...

What do people use non-Sky satellite boxes for if i) they aren't immigrants looking for foreign-language programming, or ii) the BBC at Caversham looking for foreign newsfeeds and unlicensed broadcasts of BBC programmes?

Is it just for uncensored XXX channels, or are there any good English-speaking, non-Sky channels out there?

Posted by: Ashley

It's not just the BBC who look at newsfeeds (backhaulling the Americans call it) and I'm told there are foreign sat stations that broadcast feature films that you can watch if you have the correct CAM and card.:D

Posted by: iankb

Ah. :D

Part 2

It's not the same when you can't see the cables:(

Posted by: cwaring

You should have seen the back of mine before I got the new cabinet. Looked pretty much like yours ;) I had my father and brother do mine as I don't have a wife :D

Posted by: Ashley

The back of mine before I had the TiVos and Sky.

Posted by: guydewdney

http://www.btinternet.com/~adelphi.house/back.jpg

mine after the tivo... but before the wife made me get rid of the rack - and get somthing stylish instead of functional...

general reccomendation- if the wife lets you - get a server rack - comes with security, glass front, power lines and cable management (the rings for the wires)

Here's my wife related effort...

http://www.steveconrad.co.uk/images/avstuff.jpg

she did the toys on top :D Most of the crud is hidden behind the tv cabinet.

I hate it that most new components only come in silver now

I really don't think any of you lot can have been married very long! I don't have a wire to be seen (in the house). The wires from my screen go through the wall outside and then back in to where all the boxes (TIVOs, amp, freeview, sky) are, and they are all in a tasteful bit of custom-built furniture - yes there is mass of wire behind but it can't be seen. Even the rear speakers are in the ceiling and the wires are run from the outside into the space between ceiling and floor above. Am I henpecked? NO - because after 30 years I have learned to do as I am told!

Heres a pic of my little setup.

Posted by: MarkE19

..... and I thought that mine was a mess around the back, but its tidy compared to some :D

Posted by: Fatbloke

I suppose flat panel tv's give you even more room to stash your wiring behind the set :D

I use my two other satellite receivers for:

Analogue: Eurosport, International.
Digital: BBC World, DSF (occasional English football FTA, sound by Radio 5 Live).

Used money to invest in property and restaurants.

Have failed to win a single pound on lottery etc :(

A very boring programme you're watching there, Ashley.

It looks like a load of Teletubbies run over by a steamroller.
