Oscar's in HD

Did you watch in HD and how did you like it?

I thought the HD presentation was very good.

I thought of making this a poll, but there are too many for the Oscar's now. :D

Not sure of the response you will get here. Check out the AVS HD forums.

Someday I want to see Charleze Theron in HD. Did she look fantastic tonight or what? And that was in SD for me.

And you realize, folks, Pony was probably recording the Oscars in HD. :p :D His silence in response (NDA etc) will indicate confirmation!

I guarantee it. RB used to do that. He'd pop into live chat for about 20 seconds, only to make some snide comment like "I have this strange DTiVo. It has these funny little USB ports on the back..." then go away.

TiVo is evil that way. :)

For me, the real question is 'was the hd presentation so much better than sd that it was worth giving up all the TIVO plusses, like being able to skip over alllll the boring parts?" No way.

I watched tivo until we caugh up to live at about 9:45, then switched to HD.

Tivo SD is far better than live HD. No contest.

I thought she looked...orange. And that was in HD. I thought the television was set up screwy, but she was the only orange-looking person. Very strange.

Charlize looked slightly orange to me as well. But, during a red carpet interview it was mentioned that she was tanned.

And, the lack of TiVo didn't really bother me, as the HD was great.

Charlize was definitely orange. Not a good look, IMO.

I didn't watch in HD, because there is just WAY too much filler in a show like this. I watched three pre-shows and the entire Oscars during the time it would have taken to watch the Oscars live. Next year I'll watch on TiVo and in HD. :)

My plan that worked pretty well was to watch in HD. Then, when the boring parts started, I would bring up the Picture-in-Picture, swap over to TiVo and catch some Dream Job that was recording. When the boring parts ended, I would pause the TiVo and swap back.

Then repeat anytime necessary. Thus I enjoyed some TiVo and the beautiful people in HD at the same time...

I'm not a big Angelina Jolie fan, but...wow.

Weird -- watched the Oscars on WABC-7 on DirecTV -- just a SD feed. But the clips they'd show -- ie, the memorials -- were obviously in widescreen, as the sides were cut off. Anyone else experience this? It's like they didn't prepare a SD version of the clips...

I noticed this. I think that in a way it's great. It shows they were more focused on the HD presentation than the SD one. Sometimes with live HD stuff, it seems like the other way around.

I still think it was a mistake. It wouldn't have been difficult to shift the text a little toward the center for both HD and SD.

On our local station, the style "expert" said Charlize's orange tan made her look like an Oompa Loompa.

I noticed this too and was a little bothered by it. HD is not the norm right now and should not be treated as such. A vast majority of us folks do not have HD and do not plan on converting to HD anytime soon due to the cost. This was a slap to the face to us poor folks who can't afford the big fancy TV's.

I already asked this over in the AVS forum topic about it with no replies :(

Does anyone have any screenshots of the HD broadcast? I'm hearding it was really nice.
