AMERICAN IDOL: new Regular Monday Night Show; tonight's a special

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

According to their website American Idol is adding a third night to their regular line-up: Monday. Tonight will feature the best of the worst, including my favorite, William Hung!

Did you interpret this to mean that there will be a Monday night AI every week?

I don't think that's accurate.

William Hung... enough already!!!

Posted by: Frylock

I think this is just a special to milk the show even more. Didn't they already do a "what you didn't see" episode?

Maybe it's just a whole hour devoted to the William Hung tour.

Lord. They could do this show in a seven episodes, and it's dragged out for years. Gah! I may just give up and start watching Nashville Star instead. (Which actually was a good show-and I didn't like country much at all.)

They are not adding a Monday Night show. This is yet another special to use up more of the proven ratings-grabbing audition footage.

(Next week Monday FOX airs two "That 70's Show" repeats and a new episode of "Forever Eden.")

Ugh...it'll be SO nice when I get Tivo. :D This is a whole new kind of torture.

Why is FOX taking after NBC... making this run 65 minutes!!!

Most American Idol episodes run 62 - 65 minutes... at least they were good enough to actually TELL us that it's running over, tonight (unlike NBC ;) )

Quite true... but I also record 24 on Tuesdays so I always catch that. When they add a Monday show that runs over 5 minutes and conflicts with Las Vegas I get upset. Luckily I caught this one.

Of course then it donned on me that my other TiVo was recording it anyway so wasn't going to miss it. Weird scheduling is just plain annoying though!!!

Am I the only one who found the laugh track they added insulting to the people who couldn't sing? Maybe I am just a little too sensitive because I am not even allowed to sing in the shower, thats how bad I am.

Posted by: dschwab

I thought it was a laugh track at first too, but it was the studio audience viewing the clips as well.

William Hung, your 15 minutes are now up.

"Yes" on your first point, and "God, YES!!!" on the second. He strikes me as a genuine and decent person, but for goodness sake give it up already!!!

I look forward to tomorrow's competition. Enough of the train wreck already!!!

I cracked up laughing when those girls were dancing around William Hung doing his "she bangs" dance LOL That was really the only good part of the episode - the rest was pretty much a waste of time.

If it were NBC, they'd tell us it was running 66 minutes, and it would actually run 73 minutes.

Well, my wife set this to record and apparently our guide data wasn't up to date because it only recorded for an hour. Then it switched over to NBC to record Las Vegas. Anyway, the recording ended just as Seacrest was announcing William Hung and he was about to start singing. My wife was pissed.

Oh well.

Here here about Nashville Star!! I'm so glad that it's coming back... can't wait for the next season to start soon. If anyone even like country a little bit, this show is worth a try.

Yeah, that bit of choreography was pretty funny. My parents and I were cracking up big time.

The rest was mostly a waste of time, but for my visiting parents it was kind of interesting. They hadn't watched AI before, so they were curious to get the back-story of "Skat girl" (still creepy) and "Army girl on speed" (I still like her, and so did my dad the ex-paratrooper). The fat Hawaiian girl still isn't a good singer overall, but her little ditty was entertaining (IMO YMMV)

But FOX... enough is enough. Back to the competition puleeze!!!

Skat girl... Ughhhh.... Can't believe they brought her back.. Nice to see paratrooper girl again.. I liked her too. Hawaiian girl did sing a nice little ditty. I enjoyed it.. If I hadn't of visited Hawai'i last year, I probably would not have appreciated it as much.

William Hung is still funny.. But his "She Bangs" performance is so much funnier a capella than it is with a live band and cheerleaders.

Absolutely-and when I watched this show the first time around, I didn't like country at all, and I really loved it. I think I like that you can be any age and they play their own instruments.

Of course, I'm not much of a fan of the pop they sing on AI, either. But I think the ages of the competetors on Nashville Star makes a big difference. (Even though I didn't really agree with last year's winner.)

Best part of Nashville Star? No annoying "We'll tell you...after 1,987 breaks and clips and questions."

You really do need a TiVo. I hope you will be able to do it within the next few days. Too bad you didn't have it for February sweeps. Now you'll get it just as all the shows are starting reruns.

Amen. I am tired of these reality tv "stars" that will not go away. It seems we must be truly bored...

Posted by: grecorj

Yeah, I just don't get the whole William Hung thing. I feel sorry for the kid.

Then again, I don't really get AI either....

Posted by: LoadStar

I get AI, but I still sort of feel sorry for William Hung.

I say "sort of" because the kid does have a good handle on this whole 15-minutes-of-fame thing, and he seems to get why he's a pop culture icon for the moment. If he doesn't mind all the attention for a bad/corny singing performance, more power to him.

I suppose. But then again, I'm not someone who would subject myself to public humiliation for a few $$. I just pay $$ to watch others do so on TV. :D

Posted by: TonyD79

AI is not about humiliating yourself. It is a talent competition, so, no, you don't get it, grecorj.

As for Paratrooper Girl. Bet she comes back as a wildcard.

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

I'm not sure William Hung does have a good grasp of why he's popular. When he said last night that he wanted to work on the LA smog problem "if this singing thing doesn't work out", it just made me really sad.

Posted by: faerie

Why do people feel sorry for William Hung? Not only is he in one of the top schools in the country, he's making nothing but money at the moment and he's working on a record deal? Seems like he's got a great shot at life to me!

In comparison to poor Keith (like a virgin?) from last year, I think William Hung has done GREAT with American Idol.

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

He doesn't seem to know he's a joke, which is why it concerns me. That and from his comments I'd say he's struggling personally and emotionally.
