OK, this was the first time that I saw them definitively show us where the Montecito is...and then they showed us two different locations in the same episode. Near the beginning, we see the Montecito is just south of the Tropicana, across the Strip from the Luxor. Near the end of the episode, when the money is blowing out the window, the camera pans and it appears that the Montecito is about where the Imperial Palace or Harrah's is.

Anyway, this was a pretty stupid episode. I thought Sean Astin's character was annoying and extremely stupid, as was his wife. The deal with Ed and his mom was pretty ridiculous. About the only good thing was when Ed's mom said to Danny, "I thought you'd be more muscular."

Astin's character was over the top but I don't know if that's because how he played the character or how the character was written.

The mother was weird to me. She calls Vegas "a den of inequity" but then later Caan pulls her out of an all male revue. If she loosened up it happened very fast.

Yeah, it jumps around!

You're right from the window " fly out" it would be where Harrah's is... you can SEE the IP right before the flamingo so that's about right.

but then the money seems to blow across the street (which would be Caesar's ) into NY NY.

MOST of the time when they zoom in across the desert it appears to be on the end of the strip, past the Luxor.

It's all fantasy, just like in the days of Dan Tanna when he would be driving down the strip, pass the D.I. 5 or 6 times , and hook a left and be downtown !

Meh... for now it's something to kill an hour on Monday night, since they moved 3rd Watch to friday :)

Damn, I just realized American Idol went over by five minutes so Las Vegas didn't get recorded. Time to use Bit Torrent.

Mandalay Bay is the resort that stands in for the Montecito (most of the time anyway) and that is where it is located; at the end of the Strip, just past the Luxor.

But they have started creating a digital rendering of a fictional hotel and placing it in various places on the strip. In the New Orleans episode, they showed the casino from a long ways away and then zoomed in and it was near the south end of the strip. But in the 3/1 episode, they clearly showed it directly south of the Tropicana, across from the Luxor (where there is no casino).

Not the best episode, but I enjoyed the coupon plotline (and the way Sam tried to deal with the frugal couple). Also, the efforts Sam made to lure the whale to the table were interesting. I know casinos go to great lengths to get clients like that, so I am sure that the lavish attention was not over the top.

I find it amusing how JC is completely powerless when it comes to the women in his life (at least his mother and daughter). Not sure if it applies to his wife since we have only seen her briefly in one episode.

As someone who has never been to Vegas, I never notice the location changes for the Monticeto. I'll have to pay more attention!

Actually, Ed's wife, Jillian -- who's played by Cheryl Ladd -- has appeared in four episodes. She got some face time in episode 6, when she and Ed left for a "Hawaiian vacation" but got only as far as a local motel, where Ed set up challenges for an unsuspecting Danny to handle.

I too liked the coupon story line and how Sam slid the "insider coupons" to them.

Well, kind of...

When they do a "fly down the strip" into the front of the hotel, it's basically Mandaly Bay (heavily CGI'd)

But, as mentioned last week, it CLEARLY moved around twice! ! !

From what I've read, about the only part that is shot here is the exterior casino shots. Everything else is CGI or Hollywood set.

At least Vegas! had a lot of *real* local footage, cheesy as it was ! I even managed to get a shot of my car in an episode :)

That's the only episode I remember his wife from (and my least favorite episode). He must have some authority in that relationship - why else would she indulge the odd scenario of pretending to be vacationaing while actually staying in a crummy motel.

I like the down angle camera shots on Astin, no doubt done because of his recent stint in a certain trilogy. I think his part was written over the top, so I think it was played well.

Danny: "And stop poking me." :D

Well I missed the scrubs surprise 2 weeks ago, so i'm glad i'm not totally dense. I knew he was faking his death the whole time. Right when they announced it on TV when his wife saw it while having sex, it was obvious.

So this week when they did the swoop down Fremont Street, where you saw the 4 Queens, was that all CGI? It looked like Fremont was still a regular street, the "Fremont Street Experience" wasn't there. The first thing I thought of was stock footage.

Oh puuhllleeesssee. It's TV geography. Just get used to it.

I've been seeing this for years in Los Angeles with all the shows that have been shot here.

Is it a bad sign for a show when more of the conversation in a thread is about the location of a fictional hotel in Las Vegas or about why the show didn't record instead of about the actual show itself?

PS:

Why am I still watching this show?
