suddenly...no audio input!

First off...mucho praise to Tiger for MFS tools and to Hinsale for the excellent instructions. Also thanks to WeakNees for help along the way! I have a Sony SVR 2000 that I stuffed two 120 Gig Seagate Barracuda hard drives into. Its been working great for over a year! Boy those drives are quiet! The damndest thing though...I was watching live TV (DirecTv) and all of a sudden the audio just cut out. I could play content that was already on disk, but I could not watch live TV through the Tivo nor could I record any audio. Something got cooked inside the Tivo is my suspicion as the DirecTv receiver (Sony SAT HD100) checks out OK. Any ideas on what could have done this or how to fix it?

I'm going to try and find another SVR 2000 to replace it as I can't live without my Tivo much longer. Can I just take the two hard drives out of the upgraded unit and go? I'd rather not go through the upgrade process again, as fun as it was.

Regards, fellow Tivo enthusiasts!

Replace your audio cables between the Tivo and your DirecTV receiver before you do anything else.

I swapped it with a known good cable and I still don't get audio into the Tivo. In fact...on restarting the recorder I could not get past the first few seconds of the Tivo startup video before it restarted again...and again, and again! Only a hard re-boot got it back to "normal" (sans audio) operation.

I think this DVR is cooked. So back to my original question! Can I just drop the two new hard drives into a replacement unit of the same model without doing the upgrade process all over again?

Cheers,

Yes, as long as it's the same type and brand, that's fine.

You'll have to do a 'clear and delete everything' to get the TiVo to wprk properly.
