HI
I'm sorry for asking this question but I spent an hour reading thousands of letters and not getting any real help.
I have a series 2 tivo (80 hr) and I want to add a 200 gig maxtor hard drive that I have.
MY questions are:
1 Can I ADD this new drive to my tivo without removing the original one? For example, Format the new maxtor with the BLESS software ver 3 and then simply plug it in ? (the same way you would add a 2nd hard drive to a PC??
2. I plan on using a 200 gig maxtor for my 2nd drive, will I then have both drives for storage or just the new maxtor?
3. the install instructions that I'm usings is from....Dylan's Linux Boot Disk & Mike's BlessTiVo program. Which uses a floppy disk that boots at start up
IS this the correct and easy way to do it??
Thanks,
Lisa

You've read 'thousands of letters', but you haven't read Hinsdale yet? The answers to all your questions are in there.
1. Yes, but I recommend against it. MFS Tools 2.0 is a better choice then BlessTiVo.
2. The kernel in your TiVo can only see the first 137Gb of a hard drive. I think it's possible to replace the kernel, but it's not easy and Hinsdale doesn't cover it.
3. You can run from a boot floppy or a CD as you prefer. This is true of MFS Tools 2.0 too.
I would do a bit more research before you buy anything :)

Not trying to hijack the thread, but now I am confused. I have an SVR-2000, and I do not mind keeping the original 40GB hard drive in the device. I have a 160GB that I simply want to add as a second hard drive (thus avoiding copying everything over, etc.). Is it possible simply to add the drive and expand what is in there?
My idea is to allow more space and then record everything in BEST because we got a better TV and I can now see the pixelization in EVERYTHING that is less than BEST quality. This guy's idea seems to be the easiest, but I don't see how to do it in Hinsdale's. :(
Am I just being dense?

An SVR-2000 and you want to keep the original drive? Are you insane?
Well, may be not insane, but, don't you think it would be better to retire that drive after many years of sterling service?
I'm pretty sure the SVR-2000 has a 30Gb drive, so you're looking at four hours to copy it all across to the new drive.
If you want more space than the 137Gb you'll get with the 160Gb drive, why not patch the kernel (see the 160Gb thread at the top of the Underground - start at the end and work backwards) and get 23 extra Gb for free?

Oh, crap, OK. That sounds good. I also have a 40GB drive (not the original SVR-2000) that I could use instead. So, I would like to update the kernel (oh boy, very scared) and get all of the 160 and then the 40 GB "B" drive. *sigh* This is going to be a long day. :D
Thanks,
