Dead B Drive, Keeps Rebooting...Can I Just Replace B Drive?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: yuckydog

My wife got up this morning to discover our upgraded Tivo Series 2 in the endless reboot (Powering Up, Almost There...Reboot) and after some experimenting, discovered that my A drive is fine but my B drive doesn't show when using Maxtor's disk utility. (When I use the MFS Boot CD, the drive is recognized and is assigned a hdX designation.)

My question is, has anyone figured out how to just replace the B drive? I bought a Seagate 120GB as the mail in rebates ended today at Best Buy but cannot dd my dead B drives contents as I'm getting an input/output error on the original drive. (Also, it prolly won't work as the Seagate is slightly smaller than the Maxtor.)

Countless thread searches have found similar situations but the only solution (at the time of the posts) were to restore from an original or backup and start over. We have tons of shows that we haven't been able to watch and I'd like to save/recover them if I can!

Thanks in advance,
James
